And whilst I have nowt against Brummies, Birmingham is horrible.

The Bull Ring is canny impressive like nowadays, since the re-vamp. The rest of the place is a complete write-off though. Mind you, Wolverhampton makes it look like the Champs Elysees by comparison.

Wor lass went to Wolverhampton for a year before she decided to be a nurse. Rough as fuck that place (in every possible way).

Geddin.. Just when I was set for a hideous afternoon with absolute shitloads to do before 5pm, my supervisor (who has the day off) has just rang to say she's coming in to help out.. ;) Legend.

Mind if she doesn't turn up within the next hour or so I'll know she's been really mean and had me on. ;)

Have to agree. "City planning". ;););)

Not helped by "your" bombs you bastid.

Lame excuse. Most of the architectural sins stem from the 60s and early 70s. The same applies for the Jorman cities that were destroyed by the airstrikes of the allies.

Birmingham's a grand place to study for a few years as everything's pretty compact and the place is big enough to have every kind of shop, eatery etc. you'd want, but it's ugly as fuck, there's no denying that.

We destroyed a lot buildings, sure. But it still doesn't tell the whole story. As I said, it is basically the same situation as in Jormany where the allied bombing is blamed for the sad state of some pretty ugly cities. But in fact even in cities that were hit worst in WWII the major damage in percentage to the architectural substance was done post-war (starting in about one decade later). In Jormany you can easily see the distinction between the former two Jorman states. In many cities of the former GDR the old architectural substance is far better conserved (even in cities like Dresden, where socialists did as a good job as Arthur Harris) than in the West, simply because of the reason that they didn't have the money to rip down complete city centres and rebuild it with ugly concrete stuff. The major turning point in western Europe was the European Architectural Heritage Year 1975. Without this idea by this sodding European Community a lot more cities and towns in the UK or Jormany would look like Birmingham tbh.

8 hours or so to go. Although there's something wrong with one of the systems here and we've got an engineer coming out at 2 to fix it, and muggins here has been charged with hanging around til he's sorted it. I'll kick his face off if I'm here past half 4. ;)

I'll be especially pissed off if everyone else gets sent home early cos it's Christmas. ;)

He's turned up now and he's twisting his face a bit. Reckons it's a "big job to put this one right". Try doing it with your face kicked off, matey! Get a shift on!

I wouldn't mind but the entire fucking building is pretty much empty apart from me and this bloke. About half an hour ago there was an exodus of people walking past my door, all laughing and giggling and "Eeee Merry Christmas Scott". Set of bastards! "Aye Merry Christmas...;).....fuck off. ;) "
