Barney 0
Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder has hinted he will be able to spend in the New Year. The Magpies are currently down to the bare bones with a host of first-team regulars on the sidelines injured. Roeder is without the likes of Michael Owen, Scott Parker and Damien Duff, but he is refusing to get despondent. Three consecutive Premiership wins have lifted Newcastle up to 14th in the table and now Roeder has been told he will be able to make additions in the January transfer window. "The medics have never known anything like this anywhere," he said. "I'm not thinking of what's coming up, it's one game at a time. "I've been given the confidence that I'll be able to bring in fresh faces in January." http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?HLID=4...=rss&clid=

Barney 0
The fact that he was looking to sign Bridge, Huth and Viduka in the summer, show's that at least he knows where our problem areas are, and what he really thinks of Baba. Dr Gloom 22216
sadly, bridge has just signed a new contract. he would have been ideal
Barney 0
At least he's aware of Baba's shitness though. Still linked with Viduka a couple of days ago. Unsure on him. I don't think Rodders is the man to make him get his finger out.

Barney 0
Well Souey used to always say that it "wasn't an excuse". But said it as a disclaimer. Rodders does it as well but uses "I always say it gives another player an opportunity".

Unfortunately he decided to do fuck all about it in the two months he had available to him. Tbh we all know where the problems lie, he is the one employed to solve those problems which he has yet to do.
Fop 1
"The medics have never known anything like this anywhere," he said. Except at NUFC for the last 9 consecutive seasons. I can't remember the last season without a massive injury crisis and I can remember at least 4 with basically a whole team out injured for at least one point in the season. The biggest difference THIS season is our complete squad is smaller than it has been for a long time (not so very long ago there were 50 professionals in the books – far too many certainly, but we seem to have gone in the opposite direction now). Guest alex
Actually the squad isn't that small in terms of players registered for the first team (about 31 players iirc). It's weak in terms of strength in depth though.

Aye, I agree and your point still stands, it's just you-know-who would no doubt point out that we have a bigger squad than Chelsea (their squad is about 22 players I think). that's the difference. they've got at least two top players in every position; we went into this new season with bramble, carr, babayaro, ramage, taylor and moore as our only recognised defenders. i'm not even going to mention bernard tbh. the forward situation wasn't much better. with owen out all season and shola destined for the operating theatre, we started this season knowing that we'd have be relying on martins, sibierski and a man utd reserve and hoping that shola could make it through to january before breaking down - sadly he couldn't. we've been lucky that nobby has been able to fill in so well at right back and sibierki has done so well out of position up front. i'm, frankly, baffled that leazesmag refuses to criticise the chairman's lack of planning when all of the above is so obvious. i'm pretty sure roeder wouldn't have been best pleased. in fact, i don't think anyone was apart from leazesmag. when it was all kicking off on here after transfer deadline day he was the only person that had the gall to defend shepherd. Barney 0
Crouch Toon confirm Crouch interest By Graeme Bailey - Created on 12 Dec 2006 Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder has confirmed his interest in Liverpool's Peter Crouch. The England striker looks to be losing his battle with Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy for a starting role as Rafa Benitez edges away from his rotation policy. Roeder looks set to invest heavily in the January transfer window and a new striker is believed to be on his list of targets. Crouch has been linked with a possible switch to St James' Park and now Roeder has admitted he is an admirer of the 25-year-old. "I am an admirer of the way Peter Crouch plays and the fact is that he also scores goals," said Roeder, who is also believed to be keeping tabs on Mark Viduka. The Middlesbrough striker was the subject of a bid from Newcastle in August and Roeder could look to try and prise him away from Teesside once again. Roeder was also linked with weekend moves for a host of defenders including former Newcastle stars Jonathan Woodgate and Sylvain Distin, and Fulham's Zat Knight. However, the Magpies supremo was quick to play down an interest in those three. "I am not interested in bringing Jonathan Woodgate, Sylvain Distin or Zat Knight to Newcastle United," he told The Evening Chronicle. http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?HLID=4...rss&clid=14 Edited December 12, 2006 by Barney
Barney 0
Here's "Olly's" version Roeder on Red alert for CrouchDec 12 2006 By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Liverpool's England beanpole striker Peter Crouch. And while they accept it is going to be difficult to prise the 6ft 7ins striker away from Anfield, no-one knows just how the £450m takeover of Liverpool by the mega-rich Dubai International Capital Group is going to affect the red half of Merseyside. United were actually alerted to the fact that Crouch (pictured) was not going to be an automatic choice in Rafael Benitez's side when they were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield in September. And, sure enough, Liverpool have a three-into-two-won't-go situation with 25-year-old Crouch, United's summer target Dirk Kuyt and former Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy vying for the two front roles. All United boss Glenn Roeder would say on the subject today was: "I am an admirer of the way Peter Crouch plays and the fact that he also scores goals." Meanwhile, United were linked with a £2m move for Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka over the weekend. But while they were desperate to sign the Aussie international forward at the end of the August transfer deadline - and the player was just as desperate to come to St James' Park - this interest is now dead. With the January transfer window just 19 days away, Roeder knows that United are going to be linked with a host a players, and last weekend was no exception. Middlesbrough's former United defender Jonathan Woodgate was mentioned, as was another of United's August transfer targets, Fulham's England international defender Zat Knight. This follows hard on the heels of reports in the last couple of weeks that United were hoping to bring another of their former defenders, Sylvain Distin, back to St James' Park. However, Roeder said simply today: "I am not interested in bringing Jonathan Woodgate, Sylvain Distin or Zat Knight to Newcastle United." As in the case of Knight and Viduka, United made a last-gasp effort to bring Blackburn defender Lucas Neill to St James' Park in the last 48 hours of the August transfer window. But at Ewood Park on Saturday, Neill blotted his copybook with a poor performance against United in general and Charles N'Zogbia in particular, and Newcastle will not compete with Liverpool for the Aussie defender at the turn of the year. Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is convinced he and attacking partner Andriy Shevchenko can be a hit. The Ukrainian has struggled for form since his £30.8m move to west London from AC Milan in the summer, and was substituted in the Blues' 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday. But Ivory Coast striker Drogba, who in contrast has banged in 14 goals this season, added: "He needs to adapt to the way the team plays and to the league. "That is not the most easy thing to do. But it is going well, he makes them for me to score and I make them for him to score." Chelsea's draw with Arsenal leaves them eight points behind Premiership leaders Manchester United, a gap they can cut to five if they beat Newcastle at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night. http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/newcast...-name_page.html Edited December 12, 2006 by Barney

The manager chose to - correctly - invest in - in his opinion - quality forwards. He used his budget to do this. Do you really expect the club to continue spending big money they don't have ? If you advocate buying lots of players for 2 or 3m who are no better than what we have, where exactly would that get us and how many of those have we bought that you have said aren't good enough. As i said, it is getting more difficult to stop laughing at you. Or do you continue to think the board can continue to fund their managers massively - then absurdly continue to STILL label them a shit board ???? Give yourself a shake and ask yourself how many other boards match our spending - although I know you think it isn't relevant like Absolutely amazing.
