I don't mind Zara Philips winning, but have you seen the state of that speech? A member of the royal family talking like she's in Friends.

"People asked if I'd written a speech and i was like, no!"

"Like"?

She also seems to be the royal family's very own Tim Krul. More "amazing" than "unbelievable" though.

I thought exactly the same, it was so surprising ;) Where on earth was she educated?

Yup, Britain has Andy Priaulx, 2 time World Touring Car Champion for the last 2 years yet the BBC didn't even give him a mention last year and it looks like no fucker will mention him again this year.

Good point.

I missed most of the program, was Andy amongst the nominees? Or did he even get a mention? ;)

Zara Phillips for me. Dominating her sport. And if you have never tried to get a horse to jump a nine foot high and six foot across fence then you shouldn't really criticise it's worth as a sport.

No one gives a shit about show jumping tbh. If she wasn't who she was she wouldn't even be in the running.

Exactly. What a fucking joke. And you can't say that her priveleged upbringing is irrelevant here because:

1) People who are stupid enough to be royalists obviously swung the voting.

2) How many lasses from Byker get the chance to ride a horse worth several hundred grand?

Burn the lot of them.

Basically agree with this, but still think she's fit.

I wouldn't be surprised if her speech wasn't specifically written to come across like that to give the Royal family are more down to Earth image.

Aye, but unless you're her brother or cousin you've no chance tbh.

Ironically, I for one would prefer to listen to someone speak correct English than 'Friends' English. I think even 'Queens English' is prefereable.

Her and Will for future king and queen tbh.

EDIT meant to quote Renton. I agree btw but I'm not sure how many other people would

She's nailing that rugby bloke Tindall (who was in the crowd) and I think he's only a second cousin. He was nearly in tears tho so I reckon I could take him.

I like the bloke but it sums up how shit a year it was for sport when Darren Clarke was 2nd mainly due to getting the sympathy vote after the death of his wife. It's not as though he actually won a major (individual) tournament. At least Zara Phillips was successful on her own but it's very much a minority sport. Also, people like Panesar and Button being in contention was an absolute joke. I would have liked to have seen either Calzaghe or Beth Tweddle win it tbh.

Golf is a minority sport too tbh.

Wor lass was voting for Tweddle like a maniac as she went to the same gym as her as a bairn. I quite properly pointed out that Tweddle's neck was too thick to warrant first place.

Aye, Calzaghe should have won it. Button was up for it on the basis he FINALLY won a race. In Zara Phillips defence (and this is hard for me to say as I fucking hate the Royals), she is actually World Champion at her sport, even if it is the shittest sport on the planet.

Yes thats true.

BUT i fecking HATE any 'sport' that involves horses. I know im probably being totally unreasonable and totally unfair to the horse owners/trainers/jockeys.....but i think ALL horsey sports are cruel ;):D

I have no real reason for this, except i just cant stand to watch it.

I didnt say you didnt! Thats just the sort of hot-headed response I'd expect from a card carrying Paisleyite such as yourself.

I agree though I think in nature most horses would run about, jump and so on and so forth and many would eventually go lame through injury. They probably get better treatment than most animals by and large.

I ride horses and am from a pit village in Durham no one more common than me. It's less of a posh middle class sport than you would imagine. Also the stables will let anyone ride their good horses who has the talent. If a lass from anywhere showed talent the stable she rode for would supply the things she needs.

Most people arent from a pit village in Durham though. By and large, basic economics means that most people don't have access to riding facilities.
