Scottish Mag 3
Zenit St Petersburg have revealed that an English club are trying to land Alexander Kerzhakov. Sevilla are long-term admirers of the Russian international and are heading the queue of clubs trying to secure his signature. The Uefa Cup winners first bid for Kerzhakov in the summer, but they failed to convince Zenit to sell. Now the Russians are inclined to let the forward leave and have revealed that three other teams have bid along with Sevilla - including their city rivals Real Betis. Zenit's sporting director Konstantin Sarsaniya also claims Kerzhakov - a former Tottenham target - is again wanted in England. The identity of the Premiership club is not known, but some Russian sources have named Bolton and Newcastle as likely bidders. "We have got four bids for Alexander Kerzhakov," Sarsaniya revealed. "They are from Sevilla, Betis and two teams: one from England and one from France. "I can't broadcast these clubs according to terms of negotiations, but one of them is playing in Champions League." Sarsaniya also stated that Sevilla's initial offer has been rejected - but the player himself wants a move to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. "Sevilla made ridiculous offer for Alexander Kerzhakov," he added "They offered €1.5 million; other teams offer much more money, but Kerzhakov still wants to go only to Sevilla. "This summer Sevilla offered €9 million for Kerzhakov, but our board decided to reject bid. "We know that this is the way that Sevilla try to get new players whose contracts are close to expiring. "Sevilla offer unacceptable terms to clubs and at the same time asks the player to wait til the end of his contract, promising to sign him as a free agent. "If Kerzhakov won't go anywhere else he will stay at the club till end of his contract in December the 2007. Zenit won't sell Kerzhakov for €1.5 million, we aren't idiots"

You can call me a lanky streak of piss if you like. As for Kerzhakov, he is about the same height as Owen and Martins, maybe a bit taller.

Scottish Mag 3
From .com From Eurosport, Wednesday: Newcastle United have lodged a 2.5 million euro (£1.7 million) bid with Zenit St. Petersburg for striker Alexander Kerzhakov, according to a spokesman from the Russian club. The Magpies face competition from several other clubs around Europe, including Sevilla, though the UEFA Cup holders' offer has already been labelled “unacceptable.” “Newcastle have offered 2.5 million euros and a couple of French clubs have tabled similar offers,” Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov told Spanish news agency Efe. But Petrov insisted that Glenn Roeder's side would need to increase their offer to get their man, commenting: “The club is not prepared to sell a player of the quality of Kerzhakov for 2,5 million euros. The negotiations are not closed, but we won't sell Kerzhakov for four roubles.” The Magpies have seen their front line decimated by injuries this season, and have scored a mere nine goals in their 13 Premiership games so far. Kerzhakov is thought to be keen for a move, and has already stated his desire for a move to Sevilla after hearing of the Spanish club's interest. “My contract with Zenit ends next December, and if Sevilla's offer still stands, then I'll take it. In my free time I'm already studying Spanish.” Kerzhakov's market value slipped after he was dropped to the bench by coach Dick Advocaat for Zenit's final few league games of the season, though the club are still thought to be demanding a transfer fee of at least five million euros. You may recall that Kerzhakov (pictured) was one of four Russian internationalsrs we mentioned as possible toon transfer targets back in August 2006, along with his Zenit St. Petersburg club mate Andrei Arshavin, Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko and Pavel Pogrebnyak of Tom Tomsk. Scottish Mag 3
Primera Liga leaders Sevilla have completed the signing of Russian striker Alexander Kerzhakov. The Zenit St Petersburg star has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and arrives to strengthen Sevilla's options as they look to keep Barcelona and Real Madrid at arms' length. Kerzhakov had fallen out of favour under new Zenit boss Dick Advocaat this season, and will now compete with Luis Fabiano and Fredi Kanoute for a starting role in La Liga. Sevilla are reported to have paid €5million (£3.4million) to secure the Russian international who has scored eight goals in 32 games for his country. The 24-year-old had been linked with a move to England, but Zenit sporting director Konstantin Sarsania has confirmed that Kerzhakov will be heading for warmer climes in Spain. The deal also incorporates a long-term partnership between the two clubs worth €15million (£10.1million). "I think this is one of the biggest deals in Russia's soccer history," Sarsania told Reuters. "It includes many facets of soccer business. Kerzhakov's transfer is just one of them."
