King Neptune

Landmark's not too bad either.

Agree with that. King Neptune wins, though they don't do buffets so may not be much use for the person who started the thread.

Landmark was started by the people originally at the King Neptune but for some reason on the lunchtimes has basically the menu from the king neptune but with less choice! Its nice, but King Neptune wins for me.

King Neptune is the King of the non-buffets, its a little bit more expensive then the other non-buffets, but well worth it.

Especially the deep fried garlic prawns!

And the hot and spicy lamb, they cook it so well you could eat the lamb without any teeth!

They're opening up a Wagamama in Eldon Square, overlooking Old Eldon Square. Now Renton, I know that it's a chain, and I've only been there once, but it was nice.

The missus got an invite to a special opening there last week and she thought it was excellent.

Mind you, she quite liked that shite buffet in the gate

Nah it's nice. Basically a noodle bar. Nice if you like that sort of thing. Noodles that is.

Aye Wagamamas is canny nice. I like the chip shop type curry sauce they do. Unashamedly chavtastic tbh.

Most the restaurants on China "street" are OK but I really would draw the line at a buffet. The Waterfront on the quayside is good too but a bit out of the way. As it happens though I like my local one on Tynemouth Front street most of all.

My problem with chains btw isn't necessarily quality, it's that they are destroying independents and creating a restaurant monoculture. However, I really can't see this being an issue in the case of Chinese restaurants, where there are plenty of decent ones around.

I don't really do buffets either mind. I won't do buffets at Indians either.

Spence Terrace Chinese Takeaway in North Shields is class and a matter of seconds from my front door.

Proper China towns are horrible anyway though. The one in San Francisco is pretty famous, but I ate there once and wouldn't go back due to the impossible-to-identify meats they served up. I'm pretty sure the chicken wasn't chicken. :D

Chinese buffets are scandelous. £5 for all you can eat.! Neebody ought to complain if they get foodpoisining or (like Renton) chronic shits. When I've been I've left the meat well alone. Some of the veg dishes are canny though tbf.
