David Kelly 1217
Jay and Silent Bob is a great film. I loved it. Great is overdoing it a tad like. Canny funny though. It's really just Kevin Smith pissing about with his mates. Does have some really funny moments in it but it's not in the same class as Clerks, Dogma or Chasing Amy as film. Happy Face 29
Why do ITV put Shaun of the Dead on EVERY night? I'm not getting any painting done.

Happy Face 29
Standing in the Shadows of Motown is on BBC4 at midnight tonight. The tagline is 'The best kept secret in the history of pop music' and if you like Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson etc etc (and who doesn't), then it's well worth a watch. The Funk Brothers were a collection of musicians in Detroit who played the music on hundreds of Motown tracks. They were involved in more number ones than The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones and The Beach Boys combined but have remained almost anonymous ever since. The film attempts to give them their due credit and reunites the survivors for a live performance with guest singers. It's a great watch.
Happy Face 29
SATURDAY 7TH APRIL BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II 9.40pm ITV2 "Great Scott!" SUNDAY 8TH APRIL THE WIZARD OF OZ 3.20pm five If you haven't seen it you want to be ashamed of yourself. SPIDER-MAN 2 5.30pm five Best super hero franchise alive today. THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST 10pm Channel 4 *Spoiler alert* They crucify him. OFFICE SPACE 12 midnight BBC2 This has become a bit of a cult classic. I wasn't impressed. Apart from the lad rapping in his car That was class. MONDAY 9TH APRIL THE SOUND OF MUSIC 2.10pm BBC1 I'll not bother since we'll all be at the match. TOY STORY 2 5.35pm BBC1 Better than Toy Story. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND 9pm Channel 4 One of the best films of this century. Michel Gondry (did all them weird Bjork videos) directs with his usual visual flair, but the fantastic camera trickery never gets in the way of one of the the all time great screenplays. An excellent premise (erasing memories of soured relationships...including the good stuff) that is followed through to an immensley satisfying and true finale. Charlie Kauffman is a legend. DUMPLINGS 10.50pm Film4 About a woman whose husband cheats on her so she's desparate to stop/reverse ageing so she can win his heart back. She finds someone with the answer - eating aborted feotuses. I enjoyed it. TUESDAY 10TH APRIL DOUBLE INDEMNITY 3.15pm Film4 You've got to listen to the little man! Classic. AUSTIN POWERS: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY 9pm Film4 I think the second one is better, but this is still very funny. THURSDAY 12TH APRIL BRIEF ENCOUNTER 4.50pm Film4 I bought this ages ago. Still haven't watched it BASIC INSTINCT 10.50pm Channel 4 Get your rat oot for the lads. MYSTERIOUS SKIN 11.25pm Film4 Meenzer liked it.... Mysterious Skin. Follows the differing life trajectories of two people abused by their baseball coach as boys. Beautifully filmed and with the main roles really - I mean really - well played, but fairly disturbing too, not least because one of the characters effectively romanticises/mythologises the relationship he had with the coach, which is the closest I've seen a film get to addressing the paedophile-as-ersatz-father-figure dynamic this side of L.I.E. - and that was consensual adult/teen sex rather than ultimately damaging abuse (albeit with the damage not recognised as such until later on). Tough viewing, but pretty rewarding in the end. I wasn't so keen... Following the lives of 2 boys who were sexually abused as children by their little league baseball coach. One of them is played by the kid off Third Rock From The Sun which I never watched but who I thought was shit in Brick and is equally shit in this. He was nominated for a few awards, but I never buy him pretending to be a dark, brooding, cool guy. The other fella who convinces himself aliens abducted him and probed him rather than face the facts is far more interestingly played. Interesting rather than entertaining. But it is worth a watch. CAPE FEAR 12.10am ITV4 The Scorsese one. canny enough. FRIDAY 13TH APRIL JAWS 9pm ITV3 Duuuuuuuuuuuuu du! DOGVILLE 11.50pm Film4 Amazing film. Not one for those people who aren't happy unless a film has at least 1 car chase, 1 sex scene and a few deaths. This has a few of those actually...but it's very different so if you aren't open minded about watching a film made entirely on a soundstage without props, give it a miss. If the idea intrigues you then give it a go, I think it's pulled off with aplomb. DEATH IN VENICE 12.05am BBC2 Absoloute Horseshit. It's well respected for some reason. Happy Face 29
SATURDAY 14TH APRIL WEIRD SCIENCE 9pm E4 Very funny film. That bit where they're in the club and the white nerd does his stoned negro bit is hilarious. VANILLA SKY 9pm Film4 I was lost to be honest, but that bit at the start with the empty streets and the underworld tune is class. BACK TO THE FUTURE PART III 9.40pm ITV2 "Great Scott!" THE PASSENGER 10pm Five US I watched this when I was pissed and thought it was shite, but was still impressed by the continuous shot in and out of the window. It's held in VERY high esteeem by other people who know what they're on about. TORN CURTAIN 1.20am Film4 I've not seen it, but it's hitchcock so you can't go wrong. SUNDAY 15TH APRIL TO CATCH A THIEF 3.50pm five I've not seen it, but it's hitchcock so you can't go wrong. LOST IN TRANSLATION 9pm Channel 4 A very good film. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE 10.55pm Channel 4 I hate it, I think it's Kubrick's worst effort (from his films I've seen). The one film of his that's cemented in the era he made it. MONDAY 16TH APRIL MR SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON 2.30pm Film4 The film that every American politician should watch. TUESDAY 17TH APRIL PALINDROMES 12.50am Film4 Weird one where 8 people play the lead character. If you liked Happiness, Storytelling or Welcome To The Dollhouse give it a go. WEDNESDAY 18TH APRIL SOME LIKE IT HOT 6.40pm Film4 Classic comedy. If you haven't seen it rectify the situation. THURSDAY 19TH APRIL JAWS 2 10.30pm ITV3 Still Spielbergs best film ever. FRIDAY 20TH APRIL KUNG FU HUSTLE 11.35pm Film4 The perfect introduction to asian films. Hilarious.
Happy Face 29
SATURDAY 30TH JUNE REQUIEM FOR A DREAM 12midnight BBC2 A well put together film, but the "Drugs are baad, mmmkay" message is hammered home excrutiatingly. PERSONA 2.25am Film4 Ingmar Bergman masterpiece. Proper head fuck. SUNDAY 1ST JULY KILL BILL VOL 2 10pm BBC2 Flabby follow up that still has its moments. MONDAY 2ND JULY FALLING DOWN 9pm ITV2 Michael Douglas goes postal. Very entertaining. THE INSIDER 10pm ITV4 A rare gem in that it's a Russell Crowe film that's not complete horseshit. In fact it's excellent. Al Pacino too. Celebrate the smoking ban by seeing how the whistle was blown on the big tobacco companies. TUESDAY 3RD JULY GREAT EXPECTATIONS 4.30pm Film4 David Lean. ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN 10pm ITV4 Good Night and Good Luck for the Nixon era. Highly recommended. WEDNESDAY 4TH JULY THE 'BURBS 9pm ITV2 WARGAMES 9.40pm ITV3 Two excellent family films. Why are they on so late? THE HUSTLER 1.10am Film4 Paul Newman's second best performance. THURSDAY 5TH JULY BLACK NARCISSUS 4pm More4 Sexually frustrated nuns go mental watching a hunk work in their church. Classic FRIDAY 6TH JULY THE ELEPHANT MAN 9.10pm ITV3 David Lynch film with an easy to follow narrative MILLER'S CROSSING 11.10pm Film4 Excellent gangster film. Why is it that Goodfellas is universally adored, yet you mention this to a lay person and they've never even heard of it?
Happy Face 29
SATURDAY 7TH JUNE ESCAPE TO VICTORY 6.25pm More4 As far as football films go, it's better than When Saturday Comes but not as good as Shaolin Soccer. POLICE ACADEMY 2: THEIR FIRST ASSIGNMENT 8.30pm ITV2 I like the one who makes noises, but the one who likes guns is good too. And the quiet woman who shouts. CHARLIE'S ANGELS 9pm Five Life Heaps of fun MANHUNTER 10.10pm ITV2 I might get round to watching this one day. Not with adverts I won't though. FIGHT CLUB 11.30pm BBC2 When will they get round to filming the rest of Chuck Palahniuk's books? The rights were all bought up ages ago. One of the best films of the nineties. Includes a fun Where's Wally type game where Subliminal Tyler Durden's pop up loads before he's introduced. SUNDAY 8TH JULY CABIN FEVER 10pm Channel 4 First film from the bloke that did Hostel. MONDAY 9TH JULY THIS IS SPINAL TAP 10pm ITV4 Comedy turned up to eleven. THE STING 11.25pm BBC1 WEDNESDAY 11TH JULY JEAN DE FLORETTE 6.40pm Film4 Highly rated Frenchy with Gerrard Durpadurpadur RITA, SUE AND BOB TOO 11.30pm Film4 Classic British film about a bloke having sex with schoolgirls. THURSDAY 12TH JULY MANON DES SOURCES 6.50pm Film4 Sequel to Jean De Florette THE DEATH OF MR LAZARESCU 12.35am Film4 This has had rave reviews all over the shop and I was looking forward to it. I knew it was about a dying man's wait for treatment in the Romanian health service (which sounds very boring) but reviews were so positive I thought it must have something about it. It didn't. I was bored out of my tiny little mind for two and a half hours. The odd shocking moment towards the end wasn't enough to drag me out of my stupour. The entire nursing population of Romania are absoloutley stunning like, and the eye candy held my attention until the end but I really can't see why this was voted world film of the year by BBC4. Papa Lazaru 0
Is the Spinal Tap film any good or an overhyped "classic"? Might have to give it a watch. It's an absolute classic, nearly all comedians seem to have it as one of if not their top comedy films. Perhaps do get the very most out of it, it can help if you're a fan of the genre and bands they're based around, but i don't think you need to be at all. Also if you have the dvd, they do the commentary in character and that is great as well.

Offshore Toon 0
I love Scotland as a country. It's where a large part of my family heritage comes from. That counts for nothing, however, due to the BBC TV schedules.
