Matt 0
I've just re-done my BMI, an I'm back in the obese club by 0.02. Class. Appropriately calculated halfway between eating some tea and going to the gym.
catmag 336
I used to be obese. I'm sorry it "disgusts" you Mr Fancy Dan Lecturer, and all of the rest of you who have jumped on the "you must all be fat, lazy fucks" bandwagon. Narrow-minded fuckwits, the lot of you. For the record I've lost 4 stones in the last 2 years but am funnily enough exactly the same person I used to be!

Paul 0
Couple weeks ago at work we had some people in to take our weight, height, blood pressure, cholesterol etc. One lad was classed as obese, not because of his weight, but his cholesterol level (I think). He was bricking it Straight on the phone to someone "I am eating the right stuff aren't I?" Ofcourse I was told I'm "as fit as a lop"

Jimbo 172
The level at which people are officially obese according to BMI is surprisingly low, prior to my weight loss in preparation of my surgery this year I was officially obese (just) but thankfully I've managed to just about keep it off since. My Mrs on the other hand isn't so luckly, since having the kids she's piled on the pounds and is now unhealthily obese, but it is linked to depression, and she takes comfort in food, but is in the situation where she eats because she is depressed, and is depressed because she eats, even though I do my best to influence her it is way beyond any words I can say. It is a visious downward spiral that I fear will cost her her health to the ultimate point. But as Dan said, fuck em, they are disgusting and only have themselves to blame. Maybe I snapped at you too quickly and I'm sorry. Thank you for the compliment but it had fuck all to do with willpower - I've never had any and still don't. I've never dieted to get rid of the weight. I went through some stress (understatement) and it's still coming off. Technically I still see myself as the person I used to be despite the fact I can buy smaller clothes. Ally 0
I hate the word 'obese', its one of those buzzwords the media love and love to label people with. Some people are what you'd call obese, but others are just maybe a little overweight and are suddenly branded obese and 'disgusting' as people so nicely put it here. I'd like to see myself as someone who can look past a clothes size, unlike most of my mates. I went out with a lass for a while who was about a size 16, but was a really nice girl. My stupid mates thought it necessary to rip it out of her everytime they saw her to the point that she felt so unwelcome she left us. Not really bothered that i'm not with her anymore, but I hate the fact some people are unwilling to judge people on personality rather than the size of their thighs. Ah well Cath I apologise I thought you'd done it because you tried to not for other reasons. Personally I don't give a shit what people look like as it doesn't make them any more or less of a person, but I do hate the people who rip it out of others and it effects the person so bad that they do lack confidence and become a shell of who they really are. JawD 99
The BMI Index is a load of bollocks anyway. Correctomundo. I suppose its a canny "guide" but height to weight ratio doesnt say a great deal. My BMI says I'm fine, but in reality I know I need to drop fat%. My problem was enjoying food a wee bit too much, not that big a drinker. that, along with sitting on my arse all day at work and then again when I got home. "trying" to get myself into some kinda shape now (and not the one that was a sack of spuds)

But you could very easily be the same weight and height and be carrying no fat. Not that that's me like.

Along the borderlines you're going to get cases like the one you describe but generally it's a good indication if someone is at a healthy weight or not. Holden McGroin 6471
Obese people are unattractive (to me anyway). There is no doubting that. Doesnt make them any worse of a person (unless the moan about it al the time..which is so annoying).

JawD 99
Actually, I find that a more serious trend. People know if they are obese (I mean seriously), they are threatening their own life in numerous ways. Yet, society turns its head away from these "supermodels" who are skin and bones and applauded for it. The issue of those who try to accomplish that I think is mental aye, but they also believe they wanted to be as thin as those portraid on the catwalk. I dont know the whole psychology of it, but it cant help seeing these people being called "super" models.

The Fish 10682
Naff off Cath, you're not in the same group as those that have been described. You're not the Obese "It's me thyroid" clan. You chose to change your build/weight/whateverthefuckever. You tackled it a way that most people who are technically "obese" should, I struggle with my weight, I'm 6' tall and yet according to the BMI I should be 11 stone... now if any saw me, they would agree that at 11 stone I would look positiviely underweight. I think the point of this thread is less about those of us who struggle with weight and aim to be boxed into that "Physically fit" group... and more about those individuals who fly in the fa ce of evidence and proclaim that it's society, biology or Santa's fault they're overweight.... both of my sisters are technically "morbidly Obese" and while I can dance in between the "Obese and "normal" category, it would take severe weight loss for either sister to be classed as "Normal"... what I'm trying to say is both my sisters yearn for someone to blame, "It's not my fault, it's my thyroid"... when in fact if they exercised for half an hour a day and ate better they'd lose wieght .... I'm not a modicum of physical fitness, but I eat right, I exercise daily and I work hard to bring my weight to an acceptable level... It makes me proud to come in at whatever weight I've set myself a target.. My sisters would prefer to work a little, fail, then declare that the targets were impossible, standards too high. so Cath while you've tried and succeeded in losing weight, this thread sin't about you, it's not about you and me... the people who want to change their figure or whatever, it's the people who can't be arsed.. I might be wrong though.... p.s. I honestly don't think you need to lose weight. You suit the figure you have. p.p.s I fully expect a bollocking. p.p.p.s. from Cat and the others..... p.p.p.p.s, Vodka is nice.

I have no right to judge them anyway. The only thing that does irritate me is that it seems more than ever now people try to find someone or something to blame for their problems, being unhappy with their weight, unhappy they smoke whatever! I dont blame anyone but myself when ive put on a few pounds, its because I've chosen to eat too much chocolate or crisps! I control what i eat and how i live my life. Its like these compensation claims..."I fell over a box and hurt my leg, there wasnt a warning sign up" FFS!! Open your eyes and look where you're going!! Take responsibility for your own actions! I'm not underestimating it, I'm just taking issue with your statement that it's 'a more serious trend'. 22% of people (one in five!) in this country are obese, and are at greater risk of heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, you name it.
