I was impressed with Nobby alright. I thought the best aspect(predictably) was his support on the right of Milner and his clearances. Each one was measured, and he always looked up as opposed to just hoofing it.

Nobby on a number of occasions drove past his man and often cut inside looking for a constructive pass, rather than the hump down the line approach. Refreshing!!!

Solano was a breath of fresh air at rightback lastnight, I though he and Milner linked up well and looked poised and in control unlike Carr....

 

I'd love to see Solano picked for Sunday's match but I suspect to be disapointed once again.

Nobby Solano confessed he had a couple of sleepless nights before last night's game with Celta Vigo worrying about his Brazilian opponent Nene.

 

But it was Nene who had the nightmare and was eventually substituted as Solano inspired United to their UEFA Cup victory at St James' Park.

 

Earlier in the week Glenn Roeder had insisted to me that he would not ask Solano to stand in at right-back because of the threat of Nene.

 

But the United boss did decide to employ the Peruvian in that position, and Solano admitted: "I had a couple of nights tossing and turning in bed worrying about Nene.

 

 

"But everything worked out all right in the end and no-one is happier than me that we have nine points out of nine and we are currently topping our group in the UEFA Cup."

 

Solano has played at full-back before for United in an emergency and he has chalked up a few games there for Peru as well. And he admitted: "With so many first-team players injured you sometimes have to make sacrifices and I was happy to fill in at right-back against Celta Vigo.

 

"I thought I might be OK because of the way Spanish teams play. They are not as aggressive as teams in the Premiership and that made my job a bit easier."

 

Of the current United playing staff, Solano and Shola Ameobi are the two with the most goals - 46 each - but the amiable South American wants all this to change.

 

He added: "I want to see our strikers like Antoine Sibierski, Oba Martins and Albert Luque getting among the goals more.

 

"But the main thing is that we have to push on from Celta Vigo and Arsenal against Portsmouth on Sunday."

 

When I asked Nobby where he would be playing against Pompey, he replied: "Anywhere."

I'd much rather have Baba playing than Ramage tbh. I feel sorry for Ramage because every time I've seen him play centreback he's done well but he's awful at leftback. Babayaro is a much better player there if he could be arsed to turn up.

Don't agree at all. In our current premiership predicament i would rather have Ramage who at least has some form of defensive ability and gives a bit of height than Babayaro, who frankly offers little going forward and nothing going backwards...

Rammage is getting tortured on the left and offers nothing going forward whatsoever (a key part of a fullbacks game). It's like playing with a man less when we're going forward.

I know Rammage is a battler and I commend him for it but he should only be played as a centreback.

I don't agree, personally I wouldn't waste the clubs money by putting a number on Babayaro's shirt, let alone pay his wages.... Whilst Ramage is dreadful going forward the quality of Babayaro's crossing is similarly poor...

 

Bottom line is, neither are good enough at left back and Glenn wants his head read if he doesn't go out and buy in January.

It looks to me as if Bramble is pulling the strings at the back

 

He gets the rest of the backline to push out and he stays back with the last man, as soon as the ball is played forward he steps out with his arm in the air and catches the attacker offside, he's done it a few times over the past few weeks.
