David Kelly 1219
The restaurant at Aspers is meant to be nice as well but I think you have to be a member. Vujon is the best Indian I've been to. A bit more up market than your usual curry house.
Guest alex
Just remembered - Blackfriars at (believe it or not) Blackfriars is really nice. http://www.blackfriarscafebar.co.uk/
ChezGiven 0
Excellent stuff lads, really appreciate it. Am looking at Barn Again/Black Door @ The Biscuit Factory La Riviera Francescas Rockafella - what is that Gemmill? Blackfriars Have been to Paradiso before with em but thanks a lot DK - whats this Aspers place?
David Kelly 1219
The Big Mussel next to St James used to be excellent when it was Lango's. I don't know if it's still as good but it's still the same owners. La Toscana next door is really nice too, if a bit old fashioned in terms of decor. Isn't Rockafella's the one that is run by some bloke that was one of Gordon Ramsay's shows? It's next door to the Empress or whatever it's called now. Gemmill 44258
Rockafella - what is that Gemmill? The bloke who won Hell's Kitchen (the Gordon Ramsay thing) opened up a restaurant in town called Rockafella (named after his signature dish). Aspers is the big casino in The Gate. I've not been but it's meant to be pretty swanky - it's on more than one floor I think.

Gemmill 44258
Yeah I don't like the Gate. It's like going to the Metro Centre but with bars instead of shops. But from what I've read about Aspers it's supposed to be nice inside, although I've no idea what their restaurant would be like. Try their website. Think it's just www.aspers.co.uk
David Kelly 1219
The Gate is mostly canny shite (I like Beyond mind, or I did last time I was in ages ago) but like Gem says Aspers is meant to be canny swanky. Landmark at the back of of it (facing onto Stowel street is nice too).
The Fish 10682
I know Est Est Est is a chain thing, but I found the food and service excellent when I was there. La Tasca is also a chain restaurant isn't it? either way there are some excellent restaurants in town. part of me misses Newcastle because I think there is still so much of it I haven't really taken advantage of

Gemmill 44258
Not sure there is one. I love Mexican food though.
Gemmill 44258
And I reckon you could make a fortune opening up a burrito shop in place of one of the kebab ones in the town. Perfect pissed eating and wrapped in foil they would warm your hands in the winter too.
Guest alex
Me too. There was a lush one near where me and Claire stayed in Greece recently (Senor Zorba's ) so we had a look when we got back. Seems the only one is Chiquito's - which is shit. A few places do Mexican dishes though. Shame like, could be a gap in the market.

Perfect pissed eating and wrapped in foil they would warm your hands in the winter too. Good call. There used to be one in Bradford called Tortilla Tierra, excellent take-away. Someone should francise them or something. And agree with Alex, Chiquito's is garbage. The starters are alright but the main courses are bland overpriced rubbish. geordieshandy 0
Isn't even a Chiquitos in town any more and the one in the Metro has the slowest most incompontent bunch of bastards serving that I have ever come across. Nearest to that type of fodder is probably Blue Coyote, which is great. Edited November 22, 2006 by geordieshandy
Gemmill 44258
I could live on burritos. And they're not that bad for you either - rice, beans, chicken/steak/pork, guacamole and salsa and the tortilla. Oh and sour cream I suppose.
manc-mag 1
Theres a bar burrito in the centre of Manc which is canny. Better than all this Chiquito shit. It actually does canny falafel an all. I'd like to see more of that tbh. Had it in Barca all the time as a kebab. Excellent pissed up food-soaks it all up nicely and guilt free too as it's veggie as opposed to a dirty donner.
