Injury list agony

Newcastle United are sweating on the fitness of their £5m man Damien Duff after Saturday's gritty draw with Arsenal.

Along with central defender Craig Moore, Duff will have a scan tomorrow which will reveal just how long he is going to be sidelined.

If, as expected, Moore is ruled out then United will only have THREE fit defenders for Thursday's UEFA Cup tie with Celta Vigo at St James' Park - Titus Bramble, Steven Taylor and Peter Ramage.

Glenn Roeder, who must be wondering just how many more injuries United are going to suffer refused to talk about how long Duff and Moore will be out today.

But he did say: "Duff and Moore will both have scans tomorrow when the swelling goes down on their injuries and if I was to say how long we will be without them I would be only guessing."

My reading of the situation, though, is that at best, Duff will be out for a fortnight but if the scan reveals any cartilage damage it will be around six weeks.

Certainly the Republic of Ireland international could hardly walk when he left the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night.

Moore looked a lot better after being substituted in the last couple of minutes with what everyone could see was hamstring trouble.

Added Roeder: "To be honest, while it is a case of wait and see, Craig Moore looks as though he will definitely miss our UEFA Cup tie on Thursday.

"Celestine Babayaro is not under consideration for Celta Vigo or Portsmouth on Sunday, and while Stephen Carr is making good progress from his toe injury it is debatable whether he will be ready for Thursday."

To add to United's woes Olivier Bernard has a hip injury and as a result he is unlikely to ever wear the black-and-white shirt again.

;) hardly, glad he's injured, will give him some well deserved time out of the team.

Sums you up tbh.

How's that? Maybe should rephrase: "glad he won't be playing in the next game(s)"

Not my fault that Roeder keeps picking him despite obvious poor performances, and will never drop him unless he has to (injury/suspension).

It sums you up because a player you don't like is injured and you're happy about it. We might need Duff at left-back against Celta Vigo btw.

Correct and the fact people always miss when taking pleasure at one of our players being injured is our wafer thin squad. Any more injuries and suddenly you need the player you were delighting in getting hurt, or players needing a rest and you have no replacement.

In our situation, with our resources its frightening that there are fans who actually think these injuries are good or even just not a problem.

It also shows what a mess of the tranfer market we made leaving us in this situation...perhaps we should have had some sort of plan and it wouldn't have turned out so bad!

To add to United's woes Olivier Bernard has a hip injury and as a result he is unlikely to ever wear the black-and-white shirt again.

Oliver and Roeder using Bernard's hip injury as a welcome excuse to gloss over the fact that we signed an unfit player who wasn't deemed fit to play after more than two months of intensive training? Surely not.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together!

Zog is just as good if not better....

When he's played, he's looked pretty shite this season though. Certainly not the £20m man certain people on here were claiming.

Having said that, Duff's been poor too.

Yeh i guess

i reckon anyone saying £20m is a retard like...

plus i think he needs to have confidence in his fellow players to flourish.

It didn't fucking stop him playing Ameobi though did it? ;)
