Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle are considering challenging Sunderland and several other English rivals for Celtic star Shaun Maloney. The Scotland international is in a contract stand-off at Parkhead and will be free to talk to other clubs in the New Year. And with little prospect of Celtic agreeing to Maloney's estimated £20,000-a-week wage demands, the pressure will be on them to sell him in January. Maloney's ability to play up front, in the hole or out wide is highly rated by teams South of the border. "Shaun knows Newcastle are interested, as is Roy Keane at Sunderland," a source close to 23-year-old Maloney told the Sunday Sun. "There's been talk of Aston Villa coming in - probably due to Martin O'Neill knowing Shaun from his days at Celtic - but we've heard nothing about that." Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are the latest club to consider taking Newcastle's Albert Luque back to Spain in January. Injuries to Maxi and Martin Petrov have left Atletico short of attacking options and pondering signing Luque, if only on loan.
JJ 0
We could do a lot lot worse than Shaun Maloney. He's a very good player.
Scottish Mag 3
We could do a lot lot worse than Shaun Maloney. He's a very good player. However he is another lightweight shortarse. What with Baba, Carr, Emre, Solano, Martins, Dyer, Owen and Duff we really could do with some height in the team.
NJS 4456
Don't know who he is tbh but that is a classic story placed by his agent to get the pay rise.

We really need two strikers coming in anyway, it's possible that Luque will be sold and Rossi not extending his loan which will leave us with Martins and Sibierski up top, you can add Dyer to that if he can maintain his fitness. Bringing in Maloney on the cheap would be smart business from us, as long as we still bring in someone else who is capable of holding the ball up up front. Whilst I agree, if he was to give us options up front, he has played most of his games over the last couple of years down the left flank.

ewerk 31658
Celtic must be fucking stupid not to give him £20k pw if those figures are accurate, how much will they have to spend to replace him? Cutting of their nose tbh.
@yourservice 67
Maloney's ability to play up front, in the hole or out wide is highly rated by teams South of the border Can we not just go for a player who sticks to the one position, maybe we would find out just which direction the team would be going then?Sick of the one out and one in carry on aswell.Buying players just to cover injurys when we need to be buying to cover the shite. Matty 0
Wouldn't be surprised if this was made up by an agent to assure his client gets his new and improved contract.
Scottish Mag 3
Also with the exception of last year his injury record is pretty absymal and even this season he has struggled for fitness, this being one of the key reasons Celtic will not be held to ransom for funny money. Celtic must be fucking stupid not to give him £20k pw if those figures are accurate, how much will they have to spend to replace him? Cutting of their nose tbh. Well they do not seem to be doing to badly without him this year as he has not played that much of a part this year and even when he has, including yesterday, he has contributed very little. Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
Not seen much of Maloney, but I think Kris Boyd from Rangers would be of more use to us. Scores plenty of goals, but Le Guen keeps dropping him.

Should fit right in at NUFC then.
