Luque set for Barca switch?

Albert Luque is being linked with a shock move to Barcelona. Spanish sources have told the Sunday Sun that the Catalan giants are considering trying to land Luque on loan in January.

And with no would-be buyers on the horizon for the Spaniard, Newcastle may decide to get him off the wage bill temporarily.

Barca are desperate for attacking cover in the long-term absence of Samuel Eto'o.

And the Cameroon striker is understood to have urged the club to consider signing Luque, who is among his best friends in football.

Barcelona were interested in signing Luque while he was still at Deportivo la Coruna, but were not prepared to match the £9.5 million Newcastle paid for the Spanish international's services.

Diego Tristan, Inter Milan's off-colour Brazilian star Adriano and even former Nou Camp favourite Henrik Larsson are also on Barca's radar.

And the Sunday Sun revealed a month ago that Luque has already declared his desire to return to Spain during the next transfer window.

Meanwhile, United boss Glenn Roeder has hinted Shola Ameobi, who started yesterday's game against Manchester City, might delay his hip operation for another week so he can face Arsenal on Saturday.

How Luque hasn't punched Roeder's face in yet, is a credit to the Spaniard's integrety ;)

With Roeders striking options I think he does himself no favours in treating Luque like an outcast. His winner in Italy should have seen him start the next game. Roeder is taking himself closer and closer to the sack yet has all the time in the world to ostracize a player who is a natural finisher.

Roeder is as clueless a cunt as Souness!

couldn't agree more. well i could but i won't.

our loss is barca's gain, if it happens. he's not really suited to the premiership but european football is slower paced.... and he suits that.

The idea of Luque providing cover for Eto at Barca is laughable imo.

Nearly as laughable as him not even making the bench while a crocked Shola (yes thats Shola "donkey" Ameobi) puts off a hip operation to face Arsenal.

Because he's a Geordie and knows what it's like to play for this club

If he does that, it will be completely indefensible. Scientific, medical and common-sense FACT.

Its absolutely insane and yet not in any way surprising that Roeder would do it. When they said they would get one more game out of him at Citeh i thought fair enough, they've looked at him and he can take another game (or most of one) and that will be it.

But it turned out he wasn't able to play from the first kick so yet again our "manager" and "Coaches" had made a complete balls up of things and also i assumed when they were starting Shola that it'd be alongside a Rossi type of striker (ie. Rossi) and not a Shola type of striker (ie. Sibierski).

So having seen how much Shola struggled, (not his fault but theirs) if they even think of doing it again, away to Arsenal then they're a bigger bunch of morons than we give them credit for!

Never underestimate them in that respect. Im sure between them they'll do or say something amazingly stupid even before the Arse game.

Well, when I saw the starting line up I said that Amoebi will probably look as fit as Bernard as he wasn't really involved in first team training for a while. He probably looked worse tbh

Forza forsight!!! ;)

"My situation is now desperate. It is incredible that I was not picked for Watford.

"The final decision is with the coach and, if he is not interested in me, the best solution is for me to go, probably in the winter market.

"I'm very unhappy here."

Ameobi and Sibierski up front again at Arsenal? To be honest, he probably deserved more than being left out altogether after scoring our only goal in Palermo.

The only good that could come out of this is if Luque plays as well as he can for Barcelona and his price for the summer will rise from nothing to at least half what we payed. I am actually starting to hate Roeder more than I did Souness, not just for the Luque thing but everything about him.

What is irritating me more and more is how he comes out with absolute bullshit. He is constantly contradicting himself its no longer a joke.

As for Luque, I dont blame Roeder entirely. Since I first saw Luque here I doubted what his role was. He was slow and needed too much tome on the ball (playing LW) and couldnt get past anyone. A little later he was injured. We are told of his quality and perhaps this could show in the spanish game. But not here.

Every time he has had a chance he has show me he is lazy and simply not bothered.

The daft thing is, I could see Roeder refusing to let him go, due to the lack of cover, and Luque still not getting a single league start between now and the end of the season.
