  1. We must be fair to everyone – even the rich Prosperity masked deep social divisions. As the cuts bite, the fractures will widen unless the pain is shared http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/c...icle7125822.ece This does seem to be the way we are headed and its hard to know how this will play out 20 or 30 years down the line. The parties will only get closer and closer, politically and voting will be reduced to a sort of x factor politics, if not already. Labour and Conservatives have moved too close to the centre and I cant really see either party moving back to old stomping grounds. Im also unsure whether this makes governments better or worse ie the fact that we are not reeling policies from the left to the right, more tinkering on the edges. With regard to the defecit and planned cuts etc.... a commentator on the above article left this little story which I found amusing.

  4. The number of civilians killed has continued to rise. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which supports Palestinian refugees and has large programmes in Gaza, said it believed at least 62 civilians were dead, at a conservative estimate. The overall number of injured is thought to be as high as 1,400, although Gazan hospitals are so overcrowded and short of medicine and equipment that they are turning away all but the most seriously wounded." Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary general, called for swift and decisive action to end the "unacceptable" violence, and urged world leaders to step up pressure for a political solution. In his third statement on Gaza in three days, Ban said he was "deeply alarmed" by the escalation of violence. While recognising Israel's right to defend itself, he condemned its "excessive use of force". http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/dec/3...el-gaza-attacks I don't suppose anyone will care or intervene.
  5. http://www.dawn.com/news/1151203/ttp-militants-storm-peshawar-school-104-killed Absolutely devastated. I frequently visit the area. Freakin kids man. This after years of confusion about what to do about militancy, rotating between talks and military operations. Until finally a couple of months back a full fledged assault was launched, 'vastly successful' of course. This is in retaliation, has always happened with previous operations. Will reignite the whole debate about whether to talk to them or fight them. You just cant cut off an arm and pretend it wont have an effect. Horrendous stuff

  9. From what I see there are two distinct camps in Labour both believing they are the keepers of the flame and both with diverging ideas about the future. Will it ever be a force again in British politics?

  12. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/blogs/taibblog/campaign-2016-the-dumb-season-starts-early-20131113#ixzz2khz3c15o Dan Carlin also says how much fun it would be to see Warren run, even if she had no hope. The conversations she would start that both major parties and their donors don't want in the open would be a hoot... http://www.dancarlin.com/csredir.php?show=Show-264---Speak-No-Evil
