I'm going to sound like Ryk out of the Young Ones here but that line/phrase has always bugged me in the sense of how the upper classes were quite happy to make their fortunes out of mills (and treat the workers abominably) but still considered them "evil" - yes I know its just me. Overall I'm proud of a lot of English history and our place in the world but at the same time associate patriotism itself too much with the royal family, the aristocracy, the judicial system, the church of england and the establishment in general - all of which I abhor. However if you defined patriotism as a shared sense of belonging and community (without the obvious nationalistic downside) then I'm all for it. For the day itself the only saints I recognise are players who've scored the winner against the Mackems.

I always want Liverpool to fail but part of me would like to see their scum fans go to Moscow and get their comeuppance.

Did they print the right words? There's a few older fans could use some education, never mind the young 'uns... Didn't see the programme but I enjoyed the singer - idiots near me still got the words wrong and its been a big bug bear of mine for years - how hard can it be to learn the concept of a verse followed by a chorus?

Just got in - still a bit pissed. Fuck me I'd forgotten what football is all about - okay we don't play these bastards every week but it was still a great day. Overall Ecstacy tinged with disappointment - as Keegan said we didn't really get going and I thought after letting them have the obvious go at the start of the second half I thought we'd pick it up and hammer them - very much like the 2-0 5 years ago when we failed to do the same. Also: People who didn't know the words to the blaydon races - fuck off and never come again Sky cunts who sing "who are ya" - fuck off and never come again. Sky cunts singing "easy, easy" - fuck off, die, and never come again. I would also like to express my disappointment in how the area around my ST has gone downhill from previous years - too many students, posh twats and women tutting at the c word and looking at me like I'm an alien when I told my mate at half time that we should go for the jugular and bury the bastards by 5- or 6 - its fucking Sunderland you twats!!! I would also like to say that given that they have just about stopped up with wins over West Ham, Villa and Fulham, the first two should be fucking crucified for losing to shite like that. ps: SAFC support - fucking wank.

24 hours to go and the PDT is starting - spoke to my mate earlier on to arrange meeting tomorrow for what I'm ashamed to say is my first game this season - bring it on!!!

The Mackems twist their free ticket schemes into them being a "community club" - we do something for the community and some Tory cunt whines - fuck him.

I don'y mind coldness to a degree - I've said before I'm torn between a very left wing view of things (due mainly to my Mam) which I'm proud of which sits beside a very cold view which involves execution for minor crimes and as I argued at my last works xmas party a view that a nuclear war/bird flu which wiped out the USA/Chiana and India would be for the "good" of mankind in terms of population and climate change. On Africa I remember being torn when the Ethiopian famine was happening - wanting to help but at the same time thinking "that's nature - if the environment doesn't support you then take the hint and move" - impractical of course but nonetheless "right" (though horrible).

Home: The Beardsley New Year's Day Away: Liam O - I know it makes me a cliched anti-mackem sad bastard but that free kick is still my favourite football moment ever.

Very JFK - "I'm president and if I want Monroe/bendy gymnast I'll bloody well have her".

I know - my other ideas about completely abolishing private healthcare and education would suffer from the same drawback - as well as people going abroad for them - thats why I'd need a world order to be able to do it. The thing is I can see combined global action being needed within a couple of hundred years (if climate change happens) so population control could follow - if its not too late. Are there really too many people on the planet tho? Probably - a lot of studies seem to think so - I think the projected 10bn would be too many - I would feel a lot "happier" about mankind's future if it dropped a bit. Of course advances in food production could mean its easily feasible but that assumes said advances were passed on to the poor.

I understand the basic human wish/need to have kids but I feel that without control the human race is doomed. We can either watch millions die in the next century or so from disease and starvation while the rich countries continue to "selfishly" have kids or we we can address it. Of course currently thats impossibly idealistic but I think setting a good example of limiting kids to one or two would be a good start. I know I sound like a fascist when I say this but ideally I'd have a contraceptive in the water supply and issue the antidote on licence.

Just like Chief Inspectors who "test" new police cars even though its not within their remit. Shame it wasn't the chopper McRae used.

Take your head out your arse for 5 minutes man. I've honestly only heard of her on t'internet forums I never watch ITV and don't read any papers - it's easy to avoid all the shite if you want to.

My general view is that women are always better off without and that is a classic case. Not being aware of celebrities I have no real idea who she is but looking "blind" I think the woman on the left is quite attractive.

The drugs are a factor in my lowered sympathy for the lass - on the other hand if people's idea of dealing with death was anywhere near the bloke's level then there would be "Bridgends" galore everyday - how do thousands cope all the time without this wonderful professional support? It is sad if he could have been helped and wasn't but overall I stand by my view. That's the wonderful thing about being human - people cope with different things in different ways and we're not all identikit morons. Now I can't possibly imagine what it's like to find someone you love being boiled alive in a bath and then being arrested on suspicion of having something to do with it but i'm willing to hazard a guess that all level headness and logic goes out of the window. But then maybe my opinion on the whole situation is sullied by the fact he was never off kids TV when I was younger so I probably give more of a toss about it than some people on here. Point taken on people are different. I also have to be honest and say I still haven't got a clue who he was.

As I said in the Pompey match thread - they and Villa must give us hope - though I'm wary of Spurs. I'd be disappointed not to at least challenge for sixth (though just missing out would be fine).

Galaxy Quest? What shit ones were you thinking of? Basically Red Dwarf. Hitchhikers guide is wank too. And that one that was on BBC2 with Shaun of the Dead's mate. Never seen Galaxy Quest, but my theory is just as blown away by the hilarious Spaceballs. Hitchhikers was a little too clever for me but not bad - on the whole I loved Red Dwarf. I think the one you mean was Hyperspace - agree it was shit.

There was a lot of potential in bringing back the Red Dwarf ship/crew which had its moments but sadly failed on the whole.

I think that's very harsh, it seems pretty clear to me that the poor bloke was overcome and heartbroken and was obviously not thinking rationally. I hope I never face such a tragic situation and be expected to keep a level of lucidity. Probably but people face the death of loved ones everyday and cope - its part of life. obviously its a lot harder when you feel partly responsible though Perhaps but guilt is a natural part of mourning - you don't have to have been involved in the death to still see it that way even if its something like illness.

Thanks lads - found it and watched it.

Feel a bit sorry for the lass but with usual drugs caveat. The bloke is just another coward.
