    Jazz

One of those genres that just doesn't do it for me - I don't like brass instruments anyway which is a bad start for a lot of the common stuff you hear in movies etc. The scat (I know) stuff that Cleo Laine did/does I find intensley annoying.
  2. 80m is too much for a championship club, however 80m for our championship club if it is no strings attached is a necessary evil. fyp I dont see £80m as a bargain at all because this club isnt what it was two years ago. Its a shell of its former self but it can be big again and it can be worth a lot more than that however thats the price and its down to us to i) raise the purchase price, ii) raise additional funds to get it back on its feet, and iii) ensure it never again gets into this kind of mess. TBH after reading about the trust I think you/we have a good chance of buying the club. My fear is the same fear I had about Moat - I see trouble ahead in the investment in players side of things. The Mackems have benefited from the Irish lot and now Short being able to seemingly spend amounts which look at the moment to be beyond anything but a "Sugar Daddy" type of owner. I'd be interested in reading how you'd reply to that. Of course the trust would enhance the sense of belonging in the club to unprecedented levels but I feel that if this pride was only reflected in a mediocre team that the enthusiasm would wain.

  4. Nothing is "free" or "included" - you'll just end up paying for it anyway.
  5. If it was a bottle full of liquid then fair enough, if it was a plastic pint glass then I've seen many performers just laugh that off as part of life. Might be some Manc/Scouse antipathy as well but I would have thought he would have been above that.
  6. Incidentally, nobody has mentioned the cheating twat that is Darren Bent - the way he dived and then deliberately trailed his foot downwards to make sure it brushed Gomez's body was fucking disgusting. I was slightly mollified by Bagpuss's whinging though with a "tough shit" on my lips.
  7. My fear is that Ashley, in the absence of a "fair" offer, will try and wing another season in the premier if we go up which will set us back years again. I still think a "failure" this year which forces him to sell is better in the long term.
  8. Yeah I remember Twin Peaks - I was a big fan of it and unlike many people at the time thought the second series was just as good as the first.
  9. Did we not back Keegan? I did... Sarcasm mate.
  10. It's a balance I suppose - do you try and get 40k people paying 2.5k or 100k people paying 1k? (Knowing that any more beyond the 40k is worth a lot more than more beyons 100k) From a populist pov I do think that maybe 2.5k is a tad high.
  11. Yeah maybe on re-reading they are over-emphasising that game in the scheme of things - fair enough. I don't think they are "forgetting" all of the other issues/factors in saying that but still....
  12. I read it that they (as I did) realised that day that relegation was a possibility due to the squad being shit and that that game was what turned out to be a critical six-pointer which is fair enough. I don't think the defeat was down to the fans/atmosphere but I don't think it helped.
  13. Some of what they say makes sense - I can see that if your pov is that promotion is the only thing that matters then a "truce" makes sense and also the point that it won't change his mind anyway. My view is that getting rid of Ashley is more important than what the team does this year.
  14. I see now Hughton's playing the "protests might affect the team" card so it'll be the fan's fault if we lose just so you know. As I said any respect I have for him is disappearing as he becomes more and more of a Lickspittel.
  15. I don't know how job centres work these days but isn't it possible to give a point for every job applied for and then give out points based tickets? Agree with the kids - there was never anything wrong imo with the Mackems doing that as long as they hadn't bragged about the crowd size at the same time.
  16. Not for one moment wanting to defend a Tory but the one report on this I saw a couple of weeks ago definitely had Cameron saying "we will hold a referendum if the treaty hasn't been ratified" - clear as day. Obviously the Checks might have delayed again but they didn't so the promise is defunct.
  17. 5/5 are you MAD? At least keep him till the end of the season. From bitter experience that's his good spell over for the year.
  18. I know on the pitch is paramount but I'd like to dig out the development plans for the metro station etc and see about developing the ground in the long term. On the pitch I'd sack Shola.
  19. I've just read this as I thought at first glance it was going to be naive and simplistic (apologies PP) but I now see it's a serious plan and I'm very interested. As an unreformed lefty who's been "forced" to embrace the idea of pension funds, I have to say the idea of being able to invest in something I care about rather than in some stock market based, capitalist bullshit fund is particularly appealing. I look forward to the details.
  20. It look like they were all waiting for someone to stick their head above the parapet of stupidity before it becomes common - on behalf of football, thanks fat cunt.
  21. And the compen/costs could mean administration/player sales - what a twat.
  22. They're in a strange position now though (no sympathy). They really need promotion in order to sell but at the same time have gone back to a half-arsed "we're here long term" kind of approach but without any kind of planning apart from the branding shite. If they were honest and said they were going to try and sell it again in the summer and to ensure that were going to chuck a few quid in to try and make sure I'd have a modicum of respect for them (though still want them to die) but as it is they seem clueless (again) about any way forward to meet any kind of goal. This is why I still think it would be bad if we do go up in these circumstances - I can see him applying the half-arsed/no-arsed approach to trying to stop up which will result in further humiliation and relegation.
  23. It's a strange one (I despise them both) - I think before Man U started winning the titles there was a lot of hatred about the arrogance of their fans which lasted into the winning period. However I now think theres a bit of mellowing in hatred at large as people direct it more to the "bought" suvccess of Chelsea. Conversely I think the "delusion" of Scousers that they have a divine right to the title is seeing an upsurge in hatred probably fuelled by the cheating of Gerrard and Torres. I would also say that people who do remember what Liverpool were like (on and off the pitch) when they were top dogs will never lose that deep seam of hatred.
  24. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...aODA&pos=11 Theres a simpler JC quote that takes care of him (and probably 95% of other Christians in the world today) - the one about rich men, eyes of needles, camels and heaven.
  25. In 1950 Labour got 51% and lost. The present system looks unfair I'd agree but I have grave reservations about PR even though it sounds fairer at face value. For example I think it can lead to minorities like the Irish parties (and potentially the BNP) having power out of proportion with their mandate. I also don't like the idea of transferring votes based on a preference order - the Tories aren't my Nth choice they're my beyond infinity choice.
