  1. I think without true stats its always going to be hard on illegals - they could spend hundreds of millions on somehow screening every lorry and boat that comes in but it may be that the number who do make it don't really make a difference apart from causing outrage. I don't know enough to be able to define what an "acceptable" figure would be.

    Dating advice

I suppose its time for updates I've just spoken to the woman I went out with the other week - her life is a bit chaotic at the moment in that she only moved to London just before xmas and needs to find a new place to live (was living with a friend). She now has done and is moving in this weekend and has said she'll ring me in the next week or so to arrange another date - call me naive but from the good chat we had when we went out, her description of her life is genuine so I'm perfectly okay with the situation at the moment (as I said I really like her). I spoke to woman "B" last weekend and was going to meet her tomorrow but she's cancelled saying she needs to work with a promise of a rearrangement - I had decided to use this as a testing ground to see how I felt about the multi-dating thing so again I'm a bit schizo in that missing out on the "test" is disappointing but another part of me thinks I've avoided something that may have made me feel bad. I emailed woman "C" last Thursday asking to meet her and I've had no reply - looking like a write-off at present. I haven't "opened negotiations" with anyone new at the moment.
  3. I understand the need for defenders with Taylors' and Enrique's injuries but I still think if we don't sign a creative midfielder we're fucked.
  4. And so far as the likes of you are concerned, anything deviating from a hard-line approach or with a nod to realism makes you a brainwashed, Guardian-reading "do-gooder" who cleans the toilets of mosques for a living. Which is why neither side will ever agree and this thread and versions of it will keep happening. Again and again and again. Tedious, isn't it? Both sides summed up perfectly. From my perspective it is definately not a race thing as such. Its more a general dislike / mistrust of people who seem unwilling to merge into society. I come into contact every day from the school yard to work to the pub with "foreigners" who are taking a full part in society, are open , friendly and skin tone never enters my mind. There are others however others who do close themselves off, dont try and fit in and as such make themselves stick out. This however is just a mirror of everyday relationships that we all encounter that have the same results. There will be people in the office who are stand offish and as such do not form relationships and become the brunt of the "packs" jokes. On top of all this we are living in tough times with a joke of an imigration policy. The two sides of life are bound to be muddied. True but the point is that Leazes see anyone who doesn't fit in as you describe as a threat to his way of life and to his actual life - I've asked for examples of the first without success and the second is ridiculous. It's this perceived threat to "Britishness" (which they can never define anyway) that marks people who may have doubts about immigration as root core racists imo. I'd also say that despite some false starts the current immigration system isn't that bad - the points system makes sense and as I've said the only element I'd limit severely is the arranged marriage importation of uneducated Southern Asians.
  5. Theres a contractor at our place who has this app on his phone which "imitates" a Star Trek tri-corder and "identifies" the alien species of the person its pointed at - and yes we did rip the piss but being a nerd he loved it.
  6. Thing is a lot of managers have their own team - you wouldn't want to get off on the wrong foot with someone decent by saying "You have to find a place for Chris". I'd rather a new manager felt comfortable in those circumstances - Hughton could always move on to a job at a smaller club.
  7. We are where we are despite rather than because of him imo. Sadly he'll stay until sacked when we're rock bottom next xmas.
  8. It's good we won (in the normal unimpressive way) but the danger is once again lulling the fat cunt into a false sense of security regarding the squad. I hope Hughton's strong enough to at least try and get it through to him that another couple of signings are a must.
  9. whats your point? I'd expect a raghead who's only spent 10 minutes in the UK to support manu. Obvious really. Yes but you can't knock the intent - you can't have it both ways - isolated communities or "joining in" with something British. I'd also say that a recent immigrant choosing Man Utd though obvious, annoys me a lot less than somebody in London who was brought up to support a local team switching to them. There's also the fact that Manchester has had a large Asian community for decades so they may be Mancs - no matter how much you don't like that.
  10. Embracing British culture surely?

    Victor moses

His agent mentioned 5-6m on SSN and that's with the admin discount - no chance.
  12. Might as well join in with this... 1. I've been off sick today with a shivery/headachey cold (yes I'm a complete puff) 2. Doubly pissed off as I've finally made a good start to a get fit campaign over the past 10 days only to get this fucking cold. 3. It's the fault of a support contractor who sits opposite me who was coughing all day Monday - I think I might kill the fucker when I get back to work. 4. Got that MP3 player that Brock gave me the link for the other day - good gadget but yet another just off standard USB connector - manufacturers that do this (Mr Blackberry this means you as well) should be fucking shot. 5. Probably going to bed soon - fuck the match.
  13. They should double the ban for the appeal (as the offence was worse than the ones Babayaro got done for) and then add another 3 on for the gamesmanship of ensuring playing in the semi - won't happen though.

    End of the world

I read one of his books and found it a bit too speculatative though still interesting - not as good as Brian Greene's though. Another classic arrogance of US Christians is how many think the rapture will occur in their lifetimes - it's obvious that the bible expected the return of JC and the subsequent armageddon within a few decades at most of those events so the idea of just about 2000 years being the right time is pretty daft.

    End of the world

I mentioned before Stephen Baxter's book about a global flood - the sequel tell the story of an attempt to find a new planet for a small expedition but interestingly theres also a parallel move to move into the crust and mentions how bacteria live in molten rock and suggests an evolutionary future involving gene splicing with such creatures.
  16. Just looking for something like that for the gym - where was that?

    End of the world

You forgot to mention super volcano eruptions, asteroid collision or viral pandemics - I think we need to develop the means to escape the planet in the next 500 years or we're fucked.

    Windows 7 Beta

It's basically a working Vista with some of the stuff that was supposed to be in Vista that was postponed added. I think its the best since 98SE.
  19. Could have added Huntley as the school caretaker.
  20. Read your comment before the picture loaded and thought it was going to be Jean Simmons and you'd gone all dead pool psychic.

    Beards

I had chicken pox when I was 32 (worst experience of my life) and couldn't shave for about 4 weeks but found the beard to be a fucking nightmare - as soon as my skin cleared it was off.
  22. Several people pointed out that Western Nations have used the "do our will or we will kill you" for centuries - how is that different?
  23. When will you get it that Britain is the place is it now precisely because immigrants over 3000 years have "imposed" their culture on the rest. How do you define a native? What is your baseline period of time for the changes you despise? 43AD? 1066? 1704? 1948? 1999? What is the "basic" culture that is so great it can't handle a little dissent? This multi cultural society will not work mate, it is already causing deep divisions in the country due to foreigners expecting us to adapt to them instead of the other [correct] way round, the population is continuing to grow, can you not also see the economic danger to the future ? How are you being asked to adapt - by being forced to eat curries? Serious question by the way - how has any immigration group actually affected you or anyone you know's life? What traditional NE customs are affected? - Football? Drinking?
