On the cold light of day I think the "bombing on" trying to get a second is understandable in light of last week - they probably just thought "if they do score it won't matter". Of course the number of times/period they did it for would suggest orders from the bench could have been used.

It's 64 years between Olympics and there's no chance of the football WC for at least 17 years assuming the criteria change (and that decision wouldn't give a shit about the Olympics anyway). I realise this "legacy" was a selling point but I'd like to know if its been used by other countries and whether they've stuck to it. Having a 60k stadium that's filled for Athletics once a decade isn't a sensible legacy in my view which is why Spurs' plan makes more sense as I said but is just the wrong club.

I used to go everywhere by train in the early 80s so I've certainly seen quite a bit but have only had to get involved on a couple occasions for self-defence. It was always obvious who took it really seriously and I think the police categories I've read about are about right. I certainly knew and was friendly with some of the daft lads from that time and in some ways its sad to see them still acting like that at around my advanced age. I thought our best hope yesterday was that they were going to be too wound up and try too hard - maybe the latter has been a factor in the two games and that effort has just been channeled completely wrongly. Something must be up because their results in general suggest they do have a decent side.

I've said before that that disallowed goal was because he was under orders after we'd scored a similar goal against Boro and I think his performance yesterday was influenced by standing orders on Barton. I don't blame Barton that much for egging some of the tackles on him because by any normal standards they were yellows. I agree to an extent but it's the old argument of whether a striker who holds the ball up and makes life difficult for their defence but is absolutely shit at scoring is worthwhile - on balance I don't think he is.
