  1. Tory propaganda - more days were lost to strikes in the 80s than in the 70s. The 70s "union stranglehold" also required a complicit management which is always overlooked. If you wanted a country that rejected Thatcherism I suppose you could have chosen Germany or France - they turned out well wothout the social divisions that still ruin this country.
  2. As I've said before it takes a complete and utter blind/deaf/ultra selfish bastard to have lived throught the 80s in ST and be unaffected. In fact it takes a poster boy for Tory bastardness.
  3. The whole point is she created the atmosphere in the country that allowed it to happen - if you don't realise how pervasive her influence was on Britain in the 80s and how it still exists then its obvious you didn't live through it or you are that blind.
  4. You do realise it was a 6pm kick off and is finished don't you?
  5. We need to see what the other two teams do there before judging tonight imo.
  6. I'm actually more forgiving then I used to be - there's times I've called on the manager to walk on to the pitch and hand out P45s for it
  7. No - any occurence is a disgrace imo - doesn't make the player shit. When you consider how many levels they are supposed to be above people who play the game to an average level I happen to think they should always (or at least almost always) hit the target.
  8. Any player missing the target from inside the box is a disgrace - I don't care who it is.
  9. A professional footballer nmissing the target from 10 yards is not "unlucky" its fucking shit.
  10. Should beat them and then wait outside to chin the fuckers. I've learned to always expect refs as bad as this so nothings changed since we last played on that score.
  11. Yeah - it seems quite fair to me as painting bastards on both sides.
  12. One thing that puzzles me is how you can "offend" Islam - what can you say beyond stating that the founder consummated a marriage with a 9 year old and killed and enslaved millions that could be so bad? I agree with Chez about its less dodgy now than it was during the cold war - I'd recommend "The power of nightmares" - a documentary from a few years ago that explains how those in charge need a bogeyman to keep us in line.
  13. I remember forcing myself to sit throught the highlights of the Hereford game when they showed if for the 25th anniversary I think - SuperMac had been giving it his usual Billy BigBollocks in the run-up to it and Green made a hatful of chances for him which on another day would have consigned the game to a meaningless footnote in the record books. Not sure about the good team though - there may have been an entertainment factor but finishing 15th 3 years in a row is pretty damning in hindsight.
  14. I think that was meant that they were in for him when we signed him rather than this summer.
  15. I'd play Anita at RB in the league and in midfield in the cups to get him used to the team. I'd definitely play Perch or Bigi ahead of him until Tiote is fit.
  16. Another thing - the commentator can take his "another piece of justice for Meresyside this week" and FUCK RIGHT OFF.
  17. Shit refereeing/linesmaning - Obvious "goal" and if he was going to call play back for Pienaar then he should have given a red - but the idiot obviously had no sense of where the ball was and how it was developing. I'd have had Neville and Felliani off as well. Happy with a point all in all.
  18. Yes the Dutch fuckers who claimed he was so creative can fuck right off (so far).
  19. Three players who aren't premier league class - two of whom are in positions they failed to strengthen for the sake of pennies.
  20. He was just before my time and I can remember the sense of us having been robbed by fate with an injury which I think nowadays would be routinely fixed.
  21. Sadly all governments, even those who come to power with good intentions, fall foul of the real establishment in this country - the aristocracy, the judiciary, the forces and the senior civil service. To some extent it doesn't matter who's in power as those bodies always get their own way and get away with murder. What this country's history lacks is a proper revolution.

    Shay given?

I've never seen anyone that comes close to Given at his best - there were long spells when I was genuinely surprised if he was beaten. I never understood why Bobby seemed to rate Harper as someone who could keep shay out as he did for spells here and there - no comparison imo. I understood why he left but I admit to being wryly amused at how it turned out for him at Man City.
  23. There was a different copper in charge though and they supposedly streamed the arrivals better - I think I read one "ordinary" copper's statement which was changed where he questioned why the previousl bloke had been replaced by someone who'd never been in charge of such a big game before.
  24. Supposedly traffic streams for the direction of arrival/departure iirc.
