He can play on the wings but his best position is as an attacking CM, I think it could be a case of him being too good to miss out on rather than a necessity, if he does continue to develop the way he has then there isn't any reason that he can go on to be an England regular in the future. He's a midfielder who will get goals which is something we could do with to take some of the pressure off our strikers, spending £4 million on him now would be good business for the club and represent a long term investment. We never replaced Bowyer either.

TOTTENHAM and Newcastle are leading the race for Derby’s £3million-rated whizkid Giles Barnes, writes DAVE KIDD. Toon boss Glenn Roeder has been an admirer ever since the midfielder, 18, tore apart his academy side two years ago. Spurs chief Martin Jol is also keen on the talented youngster, who can also play on either wing. And the Dutchman may be willing to loan Barnes back to the promotion-chasing Rams for the rest of the season — in a deal similar to the one which took Tom Huddlestone from Pride Park to White Hart Lane two years ago. Barnes is being regularly watched by top-flight scouts, including Chelsea. And Derby boss Billy Davies admits he will not stand in the player’s way if the price is right. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-10151,00.html

Giles Barnes.

We were scouting Barnes at the end of last season so why we didn't sign him then instead of waiting for his price to go up I don't know. Offer them £3 million and Pattison, he's worth it.

as i said, its all about appointing a good manager, that is all there is to it and its got nowt to do with any "plan". Like we did too ref Bobby Robson. But where did I insinuate that Bolton had had a more successful last decade than us and that ours was disastrous which you accused me of? Or will you admit that I didn't, you got your wires crossed and apologise?
-
you insinuated that Bolton had had a more successful last decade than the disastrous one we have had. Plainly shite. All I would like from them is possibly or probably their manager More lies from Leazes as usual This was the conversation... Leazes - Anyway I am tired of you and your mates' double standards and general "damned if they do damned if they don't" idiocy. Stop buying quality players and don't complain when you see true mediocrity as a result, if that is what you want. Baggio - Or keep buying them and watch them sold off on the cheap a la Leeds, would you prefer us to go that way as long as we keep spending money? As for your "deluded as ever" comment, I put that down to you not being able to answer the question properly. All the talk of a possible buy out would include paying off or huge debts, of course they will want something in return but the only way to make money in football is for the club to be successful. Leazes - how do you think the club will be successful without spending money Baggio - There are 2 options. The first one would be for them to invest their own money into the club to give us that lift up into the CL places, from then on with the the extra income they can operate at a break even policy where they only spend what the club has made through profit. The second option would be to get a decent managerial set up installed similar to what Bolton have got and move the club forward from there. Thread link Now where did I insinuate that Bolton had had a more successful last decade than us and that ours was disastrous?

No, it was a very bad appointment which everyone thought would fail from the off. of course it was mate. But I'm sure the Charlton board thought it was a "plan". I am curious to know what some of the lesser lights on here think about other clubs making bad appointments and not having a "plan" though ..... they realised they got it wrong and made a decision, which is what I've always said is what happens. Leazes, bury the hatchet for at least one day mate. Merry Christmas to you. no hatchet to bury Renton, no hard feelings from me about anything. I never understood why they appointed the bloke you could tell from day 1 that he isn't a "manager". I don't judge anyone on here by what they say on a message board, shame now I didn't speak to PP the other night now I know it was def him. And Happy Xmas to you and everyone else, and may NUFC keep winning. Cheers Leazes. One of my New Year's resolutions is to be nice to you, if you do the same with me we'll have a less antagonistic year! Hopefully the team will keep on winning and regardless who's right or wrong we'll both be happy. cheers....as I said, shame I didn't speak to PP the other night I've not had a problem with him anyway and I'm sure he's a canny bloke, even you despite what Gemmill says Twat of a result today, I still think that Allardyce could have been our man, what has always impressed me about him is that he handles all these players with ego's and they all play for him and don't fall out with him, that is a big plus point for a manager of a club like Newcastle to have. Add to that his attention to detail regarding the dietary, fitness and medical aspect of being professional athletes and I think he would have laid down new standards and progressive ideas in these fields. Plus the most important thing, Bolton have steadily improved all the time he has been there - he's a stayer. Despite what people say, if we played like Bolton do, and we might not if he was able to buy better quality footballers, nobody would give a toss if we were winning. You fucking slated me the other day on N-O when I said the club should look at Bolton to how we should run this football club, you're now saying the same!!!

I've just had £16 on Martins to finish top scorer in the Premiership at odds of 31/1 on Betfair Unbelievable odds IMO.

Roeder should have brought Sibierski on earlier to try and win the game, not in the last few minutes to try and get a draw Taylor and Ramage played well though. -

No Terry will be a big boost for us, we seen when Chelsea played Everton how Belarouz (sp?) struggled against Johnson. -
Real Madrid are understood to be considering recalling England defender Jonathan Woodgate in January. The central defender is currently on a season-long loan with his hometown club Middlesbrough and he has thus far performed admirably. Ever since moving to the Spanish capital Woodgate has been dogged by injury, but he is now beginning to prove his fitness and this has not gone unnoticed at the Santiago Bernabeu. "We are happy with Woodgate," said coach Fabio Capello. "He is playing very well in England at the moment." Capello refused to rule out the prospect of bringing Woodgate back to Spain when the transfer window re-opened. "If we come across a player that will improve the team then maybe we will consider it, but we shall see." Reports in Spain emerged last week suggesting that Madrid were considering recalling Woodgate and now relegation threatened Boro must be worried about the prospect of losing their key defender. Woodgate missed Boro's defeat to Fulham on Monday with a twisted ankle but he is set to return to the team for Saturday's crucial clash with Charlton, which will be a huge boost for manager Gareth Southgate who is without Robert Huth and now Abel Xavier. "Jonathan Woodgate should be back on Saturday, though Abel Xavier might be seven-to-ten days while Robert Huth may be a bit longer," said Southgate.

They're already going down the line of "Carrick who?" Similar polls on there include Robinson the best keeper in the World, Dawson better than Carragher and King better than Gallas!
-
That will be the German sense of humour Zip it, or I will make jokes about your name. But honestly, Woodgate is hardly the player I wish any injury. It doesn't matter for whom he is playing now. He really hardly is that kind of hate figure for Newcastle you wish any sort of serious injury IMHO. Yep. Save it for someone like Emre, or Martins The pair of monkey's
