Bollocks, he still looked kind of prolific at the start of the season and was very good at the end of last. With decent service and some confidence he'll rather quickly find his mojo. Won't be a 100k a week mojo though. He'll be scoring goals for a few years yet.

Strangely enough, given he's been shite this year, I actually think that given the right players around him (ie ones with pace and passing ability) he could be pretty important for us next season. I take it you speak in jest?

I know what you mean, I reckon some of them could look better in the championship but I reckon the midfield will be equally toothless (if not in some cases even worse) in the championship. Our squad is not well suited to the championship, I reckon Boro and West Brom have a much better chance of coming straight back up then we do. I reckon we'll be around the playoff positions or mid table. We need some big black dynamo types - hard tackling, baccie chewing power in the midfield. They need to be under 25 and hung like horses or we'll never get out.

We don't now, nor have we ever, needed "big names", we've needed the right players. The real success stories at Newcastle United were not bought for their name, they were bought for their talent. Given, Lee, etc. Shearer and Beardsley and the like are amongst the few players whose skill matches their hype (or in Peters case outstrips it). "big names" are who got us into this mess. I'd be delighted if we fielded 11 men I'd never heard of as long as tey do the business on the pitch and don't embarrass us off it. Clean slate. A great opportunity to rediscover football with passion and integrity.
