By Jonathan Wynne-Jones, Religious Affairs Correspondent Published: 9:00PM BST 20 Jun 2009 A senior bishop has backed the move, which is part of a Church of England initiative to put a Christian emphasis on the annual celebration of fatherhood. Concerns over the lack of men attending services year-round has led clergy to offer a range of incentives today, including free beer, bacon rolls and chocolate bars. It is the first time that the Church has attempted to treat Fathers' Day in the same way as Mothering Sunday, which has traditionally formed part of its calendar. The plan to distribute ale has upset groups working to tackle alchohol abuse, but the Rt Rev John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester, said that it could help churches to attract more men. He argued that the free beer was intended to be symbolic of "the generosity of God". Men at St Stephen's church in Barbourne, Worcester, will be handed bottles of beer by children during the service. A prayer will be said for the fathers before the gifts are distributed. The Ven Roger Morris, archdeacon of Worcester, who will be leading the service at St Stephen's today, said that it was a practical way of sending a message to fathers. "I don't see any other time that we can stop and remember fathers, and this is a gesture saying 'Here's something that will bless you,'" he said. It's the way forward. Free beer and sarnies on a Sunday and you can count me in.

Tuck away with quotes please. A gentle and reasoned discussion (NSFW ) at your house? Lovely gloves he's got. Not sure that carpet is the best for hiding the blood stains though. It's what happens when you turn the telly over without consent.

It's a bit silly targeting funerals...They really don't like that and the military regime in Pakistan is very vulernable.

Where there is discord I bring peace, where there is fear I bring calm, where there is mischief I bring...err...more mischief.

Probably one of the quickest ways of facilitating a religious Govt takeover of Pakistan.

There might be a case here for referring Nicos to the tucking committee on this one.

The ringleaders have been promised playstations and small consignments of porn apparently.

HF's only denying saying stuff he didn't say tbh. Shame Fop resorts to that as it diminishes otherwise salient points he makes and is in no way necessary for his argument. Dear Sir, Our records show that this matter is now being dealt with by Fop Farquar Foppstein. However the department will be happy to assist you in any further queries you may have. Good day, Parky Head of the Nicos arrainment. U.N. Somewhere in a Belgian bar.

I think they're clearly talking about FIT specifically and not police in general at demos. Although I can see the argument for surveillance at certain demonstrations I'm closer to the stance in their statement than the widespread filming that currently takes place. That's what I meant when i said I'm not sure how it would be decided which ones to film and which ones not to. I assume the decision is made based on groups with a history of criminal acts...like Greenpeace demonstartors. Are Greenpeace demonstrators criminals or heroes of the people?

Sadly Nicos gives away all the hallmarks of the victim displaying as he is displacement behavior and thoughts. But in this case it hasn't been easy as the women aren't muslims, crusties or students... However unperturbed he continues on the theme that there must be SOMETHING wrong with THEM!! *Never dreamed I would snatch up a Nicos with this thread I was more after a small Renton or a large Fish.

" On the 5th September 1981, the Welsh group “Women for Life on Earth” arrived on Greenham Common, Berkshire, England. They marched from Cardiff with the intention of challenging, by debate, the decision to site 96 Cruise nuclear missiles there. On arrival they delivered a letter to the Base Commander which among other things stated ‘We fear for the future of all our children and for the future of the living world which is the basis of all life’."

Even the dark side think it's dodgy... :icon_lol: Terrorist threat 'exploited to curb civil liberties' Security measures brought in after September 11 attacks 'undermined the rule of law' By Kim Sengupta Tuesday, 17 February 2009 EPA/ANGEL DIAZ Stella Rimington: British citizens 'live in fear and under a police state' ENLARGE Dame Stella Rimington, the former head of MI5, has accused the Government of exploiting public fear of terrorism to restrict civil liberties. Her comments came on the same day as a report published by international jurists suggested that Britain and America have led other countries in "actively undermining" the rule of law and "threatening civil liberties" in the guise of fighting terrorism. In an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, Dame Stella said that a series of increasingly draconian policies have led British citizens to "live in fear and under a police state". The 73-year-old said: "Since I have retired I feel more at liberty to be against certain decisions of the Government, especially the attempt to pass laws which interfere with people's privacy. "It would be better that the Government recognised that there are risks, rather than frightening people in order to be able to pass laws which restrict civil liberties, precisely one of the objects of terrorism: that we live in fear and under a police state." Dame Stella, who became the first female head of MI5 in 1992 and held the position until 1996, has long been a vocal critic of the Government's plans to introduce ID cards and lengthen the amount of time terror suspects are held without charge to 42 days. In the interview yesterday, she also criticised the United States. She said: "The US has gone too far with Guantanamo and the tortures. MI5 does not do that. Furthermore it has achieved the opposite effect: there are more and more suicide terrorists finding a greater justification." The former MI5 chief chose to air her views on the same day as a three-year study called for urgent measures to stop the erosion of individual freedom by states and the abandoning of draconian measures brought on with the "War on Terror".

It's sad that it's necessary, but judging by the video it is quite clearly necessary. The got what they wanted, so yes. Fop will be surprised if anything comes of the investigation though (given a copper can change his notes and lie about it in court and still get away with it al la the John Charles Mendes case). But in the end if they thought they had anything on those women they'd have pursued it, but as they did nothing wrong they didn't. One of the women has already been harassed and her house searched for a year or so.

It's basically to hassle people who inadvertently stick up for their rights etc...It's just not on in a democracy dontachaa know??!

Sorry Nicos not sure how you can carry on defending that video and the FACT that they weren't charged of anything.

Care to elaborate on that one? The black fella.

Didn't I read Gillette Fusion Quatro is selling his stake in that yank handball team for £330m to cover Liverpool's debt? Canadian Ice Hockey team was the story, near enough Not sure what happened with that but you'd be surprised if he was willing to sell that and plough it all into paying off LFC's debt single-handedly. It would be fucking mint if they went bust like. Aye. Unfortunately... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8114377.stm Banks would rather have interest than have the debt paid back. Behind all the smoke and mirrors their debt burden increases......

I know what you mean. I looked at their criticism of Owen and I thought, well he's no different to the rest of the mercenaries really. Owen was doing all right in interviews he gave (which were very few), he even was statistically doing all right on the pitch. What wasn't alright was that he didn't get the necessary goals in the important matches, something you can and should expect from someone with his status and experience. He just wasn't worth his ridiculous 100k wages a week, but that was his only problem during his time at Newcastle so far as I'm concerned. That chance against James in the Pompey match summed it up for me.
