I think he's wrong about The Searchers. I'd go along with Jules et Jim and add nonsense like The Piano. I did once sit through a 7hr version of Solaris (Tarky's worst film). (Scindler?) I think you have to take into consideration Spielberg's ability to make films (of any kind unless the audience are 12 yr olds). Things like Amadeus and All about Eve are wildly overrated. Why is Vertigo so high when North by Northwest is a much better film as is Rear Window. The Third Man although I like it, is really a nothing piece.

Cruel to be kind, so to speak Aye, I think it's about the only thing which might work although I'd be worried about him taking the club to the cleaners and winding it up. Not sure how real a possibility that is but I'm half of the opinion he's being deliberately vindictive now. He certainly has no allegiance to the club beyond the money he has tied up in the place. I think he's gone a bit mad, which often happens when barrow boys suddenly come into a lot of cash. Think Rogue Trader. I think he's very impetuous. I don't think that's changed although things have obviously started to go tits up left, right and centre for him which has perhaps made him behave irrationally. I think he bought the club on a whim for example. Especially when you consider the lack of due dilligence. Admittedly I'm not even sure what that entails exactly but I get the feeling it wasn't the best idea to give it a miss. Aye I seem to remember a lot of talk about tanks - parking and lawns. The dumb fuck.

Pelosi Vows Passage of Health-Care Overhaul 'It Will Win': Confidence Grows as Democrats Plan to Resume Talks By Shailagh Murray and Paul Kane Washington Post Staff Writers Monday, July 27, 2009 Defying skeptics in her party, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vowed Sunday to overcome lingering obstacles and pass health-care reform in the House, restoring momentum to President Obama's top domestic priority and order to her own unruly Democratic caucus. "When I take this bill to the floor, it will win," Pelosi (Calif.) said on CNN's "State of the Union." "This will happen." The speaker, who has struggled to overcome a series of recent setbacks, raised the stakes by planning to restart talks Monday among bickering Democrats on the Energy and Commerce Committee, one of three House panels with jurisdiction over health care and where the bill stalled last week. Democratic leaders are newly confident that these differences can be resolved, possibly in time to bring a House bill to the floor before lawmakers depart Friday for the August recess, although Pelosi did not commit to a timetable.

A misapprehension shared by too many of us for too long It was tongue in cheek. One thing I've learned over the course of my career is that you meet some very rich very stupid people I know man, how the fuck did they do it???! Still when I do come across them I have some special excel files I send them.

SKY News: Newcastle United is not worth a penny
Park Life replied to Jimbo's topic in Newcastle Forum
He won't get 70-90k there. -
I think it's possible he wanted to spend a bit and didn't appreciate what he was getting into (even that would be entirely his fault though when you think about it) then lost a lot of money from other business interests etc. struggling. However, I tend to think he never really wanted to spend. Funny how there was always an excuse - i.e. Allardyce not his own man, the debts needing to be paid off (which they didn't at all, look at some of the debt at other clubs) and KK was obviously pissed off about not getting Modric long before the 'global credit crunch'. That's just the feeling I get about the bloke. He had to pay off the 42m, but as Chez says and as I also believe he should have thrown 20-30m net at the squad instead of paying off (moving) the debt. Aye, that was a condition of the sale (although couldn't that have been negotiated too?) It had to be paid to the Halls didn't it? They nearly took his fucking hand off when he offered to buy the club so I think there might have been some room for manoeuvre there. Even if there wasn't there was no need to pour all that money into paying the other debts off in one fell swoop. Especially if it then meant there was no cash to improve the first team squad. The change of owner triggered the 42m iirc and I don't believe from what I know that that could be deferred. He seems to have had an obsession for getting the club back on a stable footing (as we now know the total debt being carried was probably around 130-140m). Mort at the time remarked that a huge chunk (most of it) MA had paid out of his own pocket - which was technically correct but evasive if we're dealing in truth. What MA actually did was transfer the debt to himself (and is now trying to scrape it back by adding it to the sale price but on longer terms - return to PL has been mooted). The key mistake has been not understanding the leveraging that PL clubs operate under (most of the competing sides carry wild amounts of debt and some have a smaller turnover than us). If I was discussing it with a bank it wouldn't be difficult to set up a covenant to finance earning x3 with any serious bank ie the club can comfortable carry 300m debt with service payment of around 12m a year. That leveraging (money) should have been used to make the club a) certain of PL survival or Have the ability to compete in the top 6-8. Basically it sounds far fetched and radical, but if you really look at clearly the club isn't financing the debt, TV money is. Anyway he is the billionaire not me, so I guess he knows what he's doing. Should have kept KK and given him 30m is my bottom line.

To get their P45's, no doubt They're just being brought in as we announce Howard Wilkinson is taking over as manager after his 3-2 win at St James' last night, you heard it here first! I suppose he'd be an improvement on Hughton. He could be the new cutting edge.

I'm not so sure his cash position really allows him not to consider lower bids. Even Nero knew how to survive.

From N.O. There might be summat happening today...Fingers crossed. "I never claim to be ITK, and dont normally spread any gossip or speculation, however I just got a text off my best mate who states all operational staff at NUFC have been called in to a meeting today. How true it is, I dont know, but he works for Newcastle City Council and knows pretty much anyone important at the club."

SD "Net debt at the end of the year stood at £430m, which will not trouble the company's banking covenants, and the target is set to get that down below £400m next year, partly by ditching its dividend. A payout of 4.5p per share was made last year -- this year shareholders will have to make do with just the interim payment."

Sounds about right for Ashley tbh, the bloke is obviously an odius contemptable fat cunt with no real concern about selling the club. He's not bothered whether the club's destroyed, he'd hold out for unrealistic sums of cash just because he can and fuck anyone or anything else - let's face it he's a fan of another club anyways so he's not going to give a shit about ruining us. In fact thinking about it wouldn't surprise me if wanted to go down in history as the man to wipe us off the face of the football league. The wanting 100m upfront is a joke. I really think this whole experience has left him mentally scarred to the point where he is unstable.

From N.O. The way things are going there is probably more truth in this than we'd care to believe. "I heard tonight that Ashley has had several bids for the club but won't even listen to them, and has been out of contact for a week or so. Apparently he wants £100m up front, and the £100m paying back if and when we returnn to the Premiership. The club also has a nigh on £60m overdraft too. He has been advised by Seymour Pierce to sell but won't listen.......apparently they are on the verge of telling him to do one, as it is damaging their credibility. As depressing as it all is, my source is very trustworthy."

I feel hungry.

Most of the players want out, so we're not in a good bargaining position.
-
But surely we have to include player trading as it is an incoming/outgoing of cash ? and yes there would have been a boost of 18mill the following season, all of which, unless I've read it wrong, would have been used to cover some of the previous years shortfall, still leaving more to need to be borrowed and then having already been used you'd be looking to borrow more the following season unless there were to be some drastic cost-cutting or an extra revenue stream (ie euro success) was found. On a side note I don't know if that fee incurred with the refinancing deal would have been payable regardless, kind of a mortgage arrangement style fee, anyone know ? Just out of curiosity UV, do you think in the latter years of the previous board we were going forwards as a club, backwards or treading water ? as I'm fairly sure the majority on here seen us as going backwards. Nice to discuss this with someone who answers the question and doesn't resort to name calling though. Cheers. The time for discussing is long gone.

He's not putting anymore money in. The overdraft is rising. There are no buyers who want to pay what he wants. A crunchtime is coming.......
