Used to love going to the Abaton in the afternoons. Aye. Can't remember how long you were in HH, was the English-language cinema on the Steindamm ("City" I think it was called) still around when you first bowled up? It disappeared between the end of my year abroad in mid-2000 and my triumphant return in early 2004, but it got me through the aforementioned traumatic time with a fine diet of South Park, the Sixth Sense and all points inbetween. There was another one for mainstream stuff at the end of Grindelalee and of course the new one is http://www.streits.de/ Streits also has an excellent cocktail lounge for pre and post mind addling.

The better (more interesting) Germans are from former East Germany and those Czech's and the like. The actual Germans who have been sanitised by their education/work system are done for sadly.

If you hire an Italian designer prepare for the project to be at least a year late while he finds his inspiration..Worth the wait however. Germans on the other hand will deliver on time (they are an engineering race), but don't expect any surprises or creativity,they look on creativity as some kind of illness which Bayer will one day cure.

Agree with all those broad strokes. See Chez what will happen in this thread is that people who have actually lived and work with the germans will be quite compact in their opinions and others who are victim to a bland mass media will talk bollocks about there is good and bad everywhere etc...edit Actully Airbus is a living example of how race persona is delianated in how a company is organised. They are very good like that. And the have a healthy regard for us, in some ways it is almost a fear. In terms of respect, how would you rank the German attitude towards the following 6 countries Parky, USA, Russia, France, Italy, Britain, Poland. 1. Britain 2. Russia 3. Italy 4. France 5. USA 6. Poland. They see the Poles as a laughable bunch with their big heads and ungainly gait.

Recent cultural differences are fine and I do recognise them - "race memory" and Genetic tribalism is bullshit. Tell that to the Bosnians or the Albanians or the Kashmiri or the Irish or the....etc.. There is a thread of unrealism in this we're all Europeans bullshit we're not and never will be.

Associateing Germanic tribes with modern day Germans is a bit daft - those tribes would have included Angles and Saxons who are just as linked to modern Britains. Recent research has shown that the Saxon element who came over are very much exaggerated. Our genetic make up of many of us is apparently 75-95% Basque. Yes but the ancestors of the Saxons etc came from the same Ice Age refuges as the Celts who originally populated Britain (in Basque areas as you say) Trying to genetically separate European "tribes" is generally pointless - post Ice Age we're all of a muchness. Filth peddled by your masters. If you are an intelligent wide awake person, as soon as you travel you should be aware of 'difference'.

tbf Stevie, ive met quite a few germans. some are funny, some are serious. just like us really. if i had to make a decision tho i would say there are more serious ones than funny ones. maybe national guilt and defeat does this to people? oh, and quite a few of them have bizarre sexual tastes! stilleto heels into your bollocks anyone?? Trying to reletavise them is where we went wrong in the past. The are very different to any other Europeans and properly motivated are jaw droppingly deadly.
