  1. Or perhaps some people have strong convictions and actually believe in something other than this being a popularity contest, or about personal gain. The sheep imo are those that are led by the popular media in this country. problem is I don't think there are many convictions left in politics. Snouts in the trough (3 at court yesterday) illegal wars ( thousands killed for oil) Tories any better? Convictions....... There are other parties. As much as i loathe and despise the BNP I'd rather people voted for them (or the Lib Dems, Green, UKIP etc.) than not voting because of apathy towards the Tories and Labour. A 30% turnout and hung parliament isn't really the kick in the arse the two parties that have shared power for over a century need. Guy Fawkes it innit.

  5. GULF WAR TOXINS IN SWINE FLU VACCINE Story Image RISK: Squalene has been blamed for Gulf War syndrome Sunday August 23,2009 By Lucy Johnston THE new swine flu vaccine contains a deadly brain toxin linked to autism, Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis. Mercury, a vaccine preservative, was withdrawn from childhood jabs five years ago after evidence linked it to brain damage. However, the Sunday Express has discovered the pandemic vaccine, to be rolled out across the country within weeks, contains the heavy metal. It also contains a chemical called squalene, used to stimulate the immune system to respond to the vaccine. Some scientists believe squalene is linked to autoimmune illnesses including multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Squalene was included in the anthrax jab given to British and US soldiers during the 1991 Gulf War. Many claim it caused them permanent neurological damage, known as “Gulf War syndrome”. Female soldiers given the vaccine were advised not to become pregnant for at least 18 months because of the risk of birth defects. The swine flu vaccine could be given to more than 11million Britons in “at-risk” groups. These include asthmatics, heart patients and those with compromised immune systems. But medical professionals and health campaigners are concerned about the risks of the cocktail of chemicals it contains. Dr Richard Halvorsen, author of The Truth About Vaccines, said: “Mercury is one of the most toxic substances known to man. It should not have a place in any vaccine for anyone of any age.” Jackie Fletcher, founder of Jabs, a group that campaigns to highlight the dangers of vaccines said: “Mercury is a known neurotoxin. Nobody knows what amount people can cope with – however small.” Last month the Sunday Express reported a link with a previous swine flu vaccine and a paralysis known as Guillain-Barre syndrome. SEARCH UK NEWS for: A spokesman for Baxters, one of the swine flu vaccine manufacturers refused to comment on the ingredients of the jab. GlaxoSmithKline, another manufacturer, said the mercury preservative was essential to prevent contamination. A spokeswoman also said squalene was safe. “No severe adverse events have been associated with it,” she said. A Department of Health spokeswoman said: “It is extremely irresponsible to suggest that the UK would use a vaccine without careful consideration of safety issues. The UK has one of the most successful immunisation programmes in the world.” http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/122228
  6. They'll have problems breathing as well apparently. [/Alex]
  7. Picking up on this point, only properly controlled studies can categorically prove causality. How on earth does this professor think we can design an ethical randomized controlled trial to test the hypothesis that weight gain causes disease? Obesity is not a disease, it's just a term for how fat you are. There is literally mountains of observational evidence that show beyond reasonable doubt (and common sense) that it is a risk factor in a host of diseases. For instance, it raise blood pressure and cholesterol levels, the two main risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Interesting fact as well that Americans die younger than most Europeans despite spending twice as much on healthcare. Perhaps weight is a factor. Plus, it makes you look shit. What a stupid article. American food is crap basically and carries less nutrients than our food. Intensive farming etc.... That and they eat too much of it, the fat bastards. Yup.
  8. My understand is that the 20 year plan will be to extend it all the way to Edinburg.

  10. The plot thickens.... The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses. And an official of the World Health Organization’s European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International’s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria. “At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present,” medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark. “But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.” The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany. The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn’t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses. Public health authorities concerned about what has been described as a “serious error” on Baxter’s part have assumed the death of the ferrets meant the H5N1 virus in the product was live. But the company, Baxter International Inc., has been parsimonious about the amount of information it has released about the event. On Friday, the company’s director of global bioscience communications confirmed what scientists have suspected. “It was live,” Christopher Bona said in an email. The contaminated product, which Baxter calls “experimental virus material,” was made at the Orth-Donau research facility. Baxter makes its flu vaccine — including a human H5N1 vaccine for which a licence is expected shortly — at a facility in the Czech Republic. People familiar with biosecurity rules are dismayed by evidence that human H3N2 and avian H5N1 viruses somehow co-mingled in the Orth-Donau facility. That is a dangerous practice that should not be allowed to happen, a number of experts insisted. Be vigilant my friends and be safe. Peace.
  11. Geithner threatens EU over plans to curb hedge funds behind eurozone crisis Thursday, 11 March 2010 11:58 U.S. warns EU of rift over fund regulation 3:58am EST BRUSSELS, March 11 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner has written to the European Commission warning that plans to regulate hedge funds and private equity firms could cause tensions with Washington, the Financial Times reported. Citing a letter but not quoting from it directly, the Financial Times said Geithner wrote to Michel Barnier, the European commissioner in charge of market regulation, on March 1 saying the EU was headed for a clash with the United States and Britain if the planned rules proved overly protectionist. Barnier's office was not immediately available to comment or confirm that such a letter had been sent. European officials are drafting new regulations on the hedge fund and private equity industries that proponents say are designed to limit their perceived role in aggravating the 2008-09 financial crisis. Tight European regulations could have a big impact on the alternative investment industry in Britain and the United States, where most major hedge funds and private equity firms are based. In his one-page letter, Geithner stressed a need for the United States and Europe to work together on regulation of the financial services industry, the Financial Times reported. He warned that hedge funds, private equity firms and banks could be discriminated against if proposals to restrict the access of EU investors to funds based outside the 27 countries of the bloc were included in the final law."
  12. A German health expert gave a shocking warning about the safety of this particular new Swine Flu vaccine. Lung specialist Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg (chairman of the health committee in the German parliament and European Council) said that there are many risks associated with the vaccine for the H1N1 virus. The nutrient solution for the vaccine consists of cancerous cells from animals. There’s no data indicating whether or not this may cause an allergic reaction when injected."
  13. Pandemrix was approved for use by the European Medicines Agency last month and has the approval of Germany’s Paul Ehrlich Institute, which advises the government on vaccination matters. However, another government body, the Federal Vaccination Agency, has contradicted the institute and has advised against the use of vaccines containing adjuvants. Concerns about Pandemrix’s safety and efficacy have been raised by several German medical organisations, with warnings against using it to vaccinate high-risk groups such as pregnant women and children. Dr Wolfram Hartmann, president of the German association of paediatricians, accused the federal government of “false testimony” for recommending Pandemrix for use on young children – six weeks after it issued advice to the contrary. “The vaccine has not yet been tested on children under three, so the risk is simply too big to use on them without misgivings,” he said.
  14. I think we're seeing a shift in the other direction actually. As the recession bites, complementary and alternative medicines are being rejected (as they are ineffective), as is organic food. I expect GM food to make a comeback next. Nothing like a recession to get our priorites straight. What are you saying now Organic food is bad??
  15. Sounds a bit dubious! How much is the food industry worth! Agree with Renton on this one....That looks dodgy.
  16. Btw the rot set in - in Germany when the Germany army doctors refused to give the vaccine. This for me is a definite paradigm shift, people all over Europe have resisted and gone with their better instincts. Shame on big Pharma and shame on the media.
  17. They need to get their act together. If you really want to scare people dog and cat flu ftw....Nation of pet owners and all that.
  18. It is in the intersted of big business and big Govt in general to keep us pumped up with anxiety of various levels imo. It leads to buying as well to seek comfort probably.....
  19. That's kind of where I am but I also carry a fucking big gun just incase. ;)
  20. They knew that all along though didn't they. The hype was all about big Pharma shifting a lot of expensive nonsense onto clueless hysteria driven Governments. The French Govt are holding an enquiry btw on what actually happenned and how it was coerced very fast into some very dodgy descisions. Polands health minishter refused to buy the vaccine point blank and must be applauded for saving them money and their people a lot of aggro and fear. These things really aren't predictable Parky. You're blaming our government for being prepared. An unbelievable attitude really. Poland simply took a gamble we could afford not to. I don't really think Govt's really know what they are doing with these things. Btw it still carries a PANDEMIC LEVEL 6 AT THE WHO. So who knows. You of all people should know that the effectiveness of FLU VACCINES is very low around 12 -20%.... Even Chez admits that Tamiflu is next to useless.
