RIP. For me a man who was a lot more talented and multi-faceted than people realise.
-
Regarding the second bit, this is a real 2nd chance for MA to bury a lot of skeletons and start to build bridges. I think he realises now that actions rather than words is the currency at St James's Park.

The last year has been the tougest of my life.
-
Was that the year I got poster of the year? Did you fuck!11 That was the year I got best GC poster.

Me/Alex/HF are more or less politically aligned against AA/CT/LM. Stevie can play both sides of that fence however. I think Alex and 2J understand me the most. On N.O. about 3 years ago there was quite a good spell in GC with me Alex, Bluf, Gemma, Nicos and AS9. That was the golden period.

This is a unique opp for the club with wages back down to manageable levels and a possible income next year of 100m. If there is anything about MA this would be the time to strike. I would immediately get rid of the high earners who are average (Smith, Nolan, Butt who is gone anyway). That shaves another 10m off the wage bill (down to 40m) and I'd get spending the 20m + 8m from outgoing. There might even be decent offers for Taylor and Carroll. The priority is two CM's and two strikers. Put pressure on the Govt for a casino license etc...There is a million things that can add value and revenue.

Didnt the FTSE 100 lose half its value in the same period though? Abramovich's losses were 4 times the size of Ashley's total wealth too, or something like that. To have an IPO at 300p of a retail business built from scratch is a massive achievement in itself tbf. How he then handled the float and his subsequent short positions against the stock shows a ruthless and shrewd man. He's a cunt too, which is the final piece in the profile of a 'good businessman'. A ruthless, shrewd, cunt is basically what you are looking for. Most of us would prefer a benefactor, not a businessman. Roman went from 12.8 billion to just over 5 billion. If he'd have listened to me he'd have been alright. This is his declared wealth mind. It is commonly assumed his real wealth is double that.

Worrying in the sense that they are really only thinking about survival and tight budgets for team upgrading. No vision.

I am given to understand feelers have been put out.

Better, although I'd have Ashley and Sourmess swap places. **Good thread.

Beautiful.

Well personally I was disappointed. We could turn over Bayern on a good night at home, they're not a great side. Lets hope the year England do shit in Europe is the year we finally do well on the International stage. I was delighted myself. No English teams in the last four. Not saying Man Utd shouldn't have won because they're a better side on paper but I think them, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are all poor sides in comparison to even their recent selves. Don't know if it's the much vaunted 'reality check' as such given I think only Chelsea really have the lolly to transform their team over the summer (and even they don't spend so freely anymore seemingly). Liverpool are dull as fuck, Man Utd are ordinary without Rooney, Chelsea aren't the side they were and Arsenal play lovely football but still lack the backbone needed imo. Plus, apart from Arsenal I detest them. We'll see if red nose actually does have money to spend this summer.

Yeah cause that's what I said.

....just sort of fell over and watched..

Cue the scouting jokes as necessary. We need at least 5 players who can handle the Pl and go straight into the first team. In many ways thank god we've still got a decent keeper. Two or three good players could transform the side into a 12th-8th sort of team. Not convinced tehy'll arrive like. Depends what kind of values you're talking for those players.
-
Not sure what game you were watching but once Rooney went off they had Nani upfront who touched the ball about twice in the second half. They went to two banks of four and he bought O's Shea on. Giggs and Berb came on way too late. He tried to defend it IMO. What happened to all those young strikers they've got..Van der Sar at fault for the first goal, a striker should never be scoring from that ange with his wrong foot.

You can't defend for 40min in Europe. Clueless.
-
We shouldn't be thinking in terms of survival cause that's how the problems start...I'd be gearing up the side and all the background work for a top ten finish a al Birmingham. That should be the target. We need to spend about 40m minimum.
-
Needs to work on that right peg a bit.

you've never stood protesting outside the gates of Menwith Hill then Not really a demonstrator.

Nice local beers iirc...Is it near Leeds?
