In one speech he goes on about his dad 'coming back from war'. Which war would that be? Can't believe a word he says these days (Obama). Pretty much in the pocket of Wall street I'm afraid. Which speech would that be? You're being a bit non-committal there. In some of the comments below it says he was actually talking about WW1 and his grandad...Upto you really, but even if it was WW1 were there really 'services' in those days. I mean there are literally 100's of Obama talking shit videos out there unfortunately. He's pretty much gone back on everything he stood for. I still quite like him mind. Tough job etc.

On 35k wanted 60k is the rumour.

And less pointing and running around in the wrong places.

Think we're all pretty sick of him and his dad.

Just getting in the way of the feast.

The most ill-informed democracy on earth.

You've named one Lib Dem. It'a straw man stuff anyway. I.e. "look: liberals are hypocrites because Shirley Williams criticised Rushdie yet liberals are condemning those protesting against the so-called Ground Zero Mosque." When in fact there is no homogenous group of liberals who all agree on everything. It's only an individual who can be a hypocrite on a matter like this and only then if said individual contradicts themselves. It's a bit like Dan's constant assertion that it's funny how liberals attack Israel yet support undemocratic Islamic regimes, without quoting someone doing so either in the thread or in the media. There were other members of parliament who criticised Rushdie, Lord Ahmed and Cat Stevens to name just two. I do believe that there are homogenous sects within political groups, and at the time there was a group amongst the left who felt Rushdie brought this fatwa on himself. This doesn't relate to the 'ground zero mosque', rather the wider issue regarding censorship and Islam that I was discussing. In recent times there have been many incidents where material regarding Islam has been censored ('Islamophobic', 'offensive to Muslims') where if it had been a similar statement about another religion it would be published freely. In the same way criticism of Israel is censored by the BBC and many others?

Alive and well apparently.

If it is Fop he's been doing some reading.

He's decent crack tbf. Seems like a thinker anyway. He is that and perhaps this lesson in dialectics and post-capitalist thinking has helped him progress.

Let's face it under close scrutiny from the heavyweights on here, Kevin SS argment is falling away like cheap tolet paper in the library.

I think you're making stuff up to be honest. I remember the issuing of the fatwa well and the overwhelming public, media and political response was one of condemnation at the time. Who were these so-called liberals? (I thought you didn't like euphemisms anyway). Seemed like a huge fuss to make over such a tediously verbose novelist as well. Quite. Has anyone actually read any of his books?

Man U are paying £69m interest a year on their debts.

I can't see anything else but this going very wrong and Liverpool will be there if they aren't careful as well. Geared or heavily financed buying of football clubs should be outlawed. Man U are basically paying themselves for the glazers ownership of the club, how can that be right?? -
Yuppie flu. (too much coke).

Personally I have seen very little balance in the U.S. media with regard to Islam and when it does occur it's on obscure channels or niche media. Vast swathes of Uncle Sam are still in the woods looking for berries.

I'll start taking Americans and their 'freedom of speech' seriously when I see flash mobs demonstrating about American occupation of various countries and their 58 worldwide bases. You dig.

Too erudite for Vic/Rico? Vic was more one two sentences man.

Film/moving picture show you most recently watched
Park Life replied to Jimbo's topic in General Chat
I haven't heard of him, not reviewing him/his film tinkerbell, rather fatness. Bit of a lapse Parkster. Sundance indie hero 15 years back. Not really. Made a point of never watching 'Clerks'. Made a point of watching something you've never heard of. It all came flooding back to me yesterday when I googled him. Happy? -
Word. Rather awkwardly big business had become the enemy and looked uncomfortable in the spotlight, better to get it off center stage sharpish. Drilling rights! What drilling rights?
-
Freedom of Speech that old chestnut. Is that really what this hue and cry is really about?

Only cause Constantine had all the myths re-written.

Apparently Isreael is proposing a synagogue on the site of that UN school they vapourised last year in Lebanon.
