Personally I think he's wanted out for a long time and a crack at CL footie and competing at the top of the league. I read somewhere he'll be on 60K at Liverpool and so on..Done well for us, but the situation and level we are competing at right now, there is little chance we're going to be able to keep players who have adapted and look quality in the PL like Ricky. With a year left on his deal this was inevitable and he knows we're not going to be challenging for any kind of honours in the near to medium future. That's the long and the short of it.

I wouldn't disagree with all of that. However, I'm not sure the protestors you're characterising actually exist beyond a few kids on twitter. I don't think the average fan subscribes to the notion of Joey Barton as martyred saint. I do think he's a lot more down to earth than your average premier league footballer though and I do think he's sorted himself out to a large degree. We didn't win a game without him last season either. He probably should've known better than to make those 'tweets' but at the same time he's probably fucking sick of the state of the club. He's not the problem. The protests, as ever, will be stillborn. i agree Barton is a fascinating case & he's made amazing personal progress, but he's a work in progress. He may not be the problem, but it has all worked out nicely for him. ...and da agent.

Music never lets you down; football always does..... I dunno I didn't delve too deep. But he got them all in one go around 92 so you might be right... He got into Shellac as well.. Steve Albini produced "Seamonsters" in 91 & formed Shellac in 93. Prior to that he was in Big Black & Rapeman. Hell of a producer & guitarist. Weddoes formed back in 84.
