They press so far up the pitch it's ridiculous.

I honestly don't think you can be competitive on an ongoing self-fianacing model. There are always ups and downs...Some seasons extra cash has to be generated (that either comes from loans/player sales/ cash from owners).

For his first competitive match after more than eleven-month absence following his double fractured tibia and fibula, Hatem Ben Arfa played seventy minutes yesterday with Newcastle victory at Nottingham Forest (4-3) in third round the English League Cup. Tell us about the return ... Hatem Ben Arfa. It was really long I expected that. I thought of nothing else all day. I counted the hours until kickoff of the game. I had one year hassle and get back on land is a great feeling. Find the group and putting green was a special moment. I missed the competition too. Back like that fills me with happiness. I saw. What were your feelings? Very good. I'm in a position of No. 10 I like where I have a lot of freedom. I tried to do the maximum in the 1st half to try to create the game and lags. At halftime, the coach told me to play above to exploit the spaces in their defense. It was planned that way to me after seventy minutes. I wanted to hit the penalty that we had in the second half. I asked Lovenkrands, but he insisted the shooting. How do you see next? I have no pain, nothing at all. Now it's the coach to make his choice. I think he will be fit in gradually. I feel ready to play every game. It itches. I want to get our stadium St James' Park, our supporters. I was very touched by their support throughout the year and tonight (yesterday) again. I want to go into the field to power 1000 they brought me outside. http://www.leparisien.fr/sports/hatem-ben-...2011-1617921.ph

The first question is demonstrably true and unarguable. The second I think I answered in my post. It is forgiveable to be relegated and (although patently done with only self-interest in mind) commendable to stick at it and secure a quick return. Though I guess these are just rhetorical questions leading up to your main point. IF it shows the risk of a high wage bill though, then it seems strange for Llambias to be shouting about a 7% increase in wages as a proportion of tunover. Hardly a lesson learned if the current decision-making they suggest is to increase the wage bill to 65%. Another lesson to learn could have been that you either keep your best players or fill positions where you're lacking in any quality so as NOT to get relegated in the first place, but the lack of investment in a striker seems to suggest THAT lesson hasn't been learned either. The fact i don't believe his claims about wages, or that the plan has changed according to lessons learned since we sold Given and N'zogbia is what's unforgiveable. No argument here. It's the point that Alex was making to TP earlier though. When do we choose to seperate Ashley from 'the club' and vice versa? The club doesn't have the money, but Ashley does. His decision entirely as to how much of his wealth he puts on the line. But the claim is that we'll start reinvesting in the squad properly once the club is supporting itself. With £140m+ of debt to be paid off that will be a long long way off. Yep. Again this shows up the ambition of climbing the table as a club that pays it's own way though. If even the smaller clubs like Fulham have an owner willing to give interest free loans up to £180m, then we're going to struggle to challenge them and pay off the debt and accrue no further debts....like Llambias says we will. There is still a kind of glass ceiling where clubs outside the core top 4/5 concerned in the sense they have to pay a premium to lock in players who are perhaps looking above what we or other 2nd tier (and it pains me to phrase it like that) clubs can offer with regard to success and prestige tournament participation like the CL. Man City came across that issue because they were competing in a market the last two seasons where the players they targeted were natural targets for ManU and Chelsea and the other top tier outfits in Europe. They broke that glass ceiling by naked spending power.

Sarkozy vented his frustration at one point: Nous ne pouvons plus attendre. La méthode utilisée jusqu'à présent a échoué? Changeons la méthode! [We cannot wait any longer. If the method used so far isn't working, then change the method.]" Mustafa Barghouti, an independent politician and former Palestinian presidential candidate, said he was very disappointed by Obama's speech. "It clearly shows the double standards of the US when it comes to the Palestinian issue. Obama spoke about freedom, human rights, justice in South Sudan, Tunisia, Egypt – but not for the Palestinians. "He wants us to be hostage to those who are oppressing us by going back to negotiations," he said, adding that 20 years of talks had gained nothing. The absence of any mention of the 1967 borders was surprising."

tunisia on NO...Afrafile. Hello Congratulations on your victory. it's good to see Ben Arfa and Marveaux back. you have a strong team but lacked a point guard play and players who can dribble. I have trouble with Jonas, Marveaux will be better on the left side. Obertand right and Best in attack. Ben Arfa as a leader will enjoy with these three there before him. He gets along well with players who are technical and not personal. it's going to play very fast. Best will love all the opportunities. with Cabaye and Tiote as collector just behind Ben Arfa, allow this one to play more freely. if he loses the ball because he knows that two players can help him get the ball. defense, Colo is top, with Taylor's going to be more solid santon to be one that reduces the risk because it goes up a lot and is good with the ball; it takes a month or two and when the players know well you will be in the top 6"

Name your player of the season now. Bafra.

Inter Milan have sacked coach Gian Piero Gasperini after just five matches and three months in charge. The former Genoa manager, 53, lost four games, taking just a point from Roma, and his side sit 17th in Serie A. His last match was a disastrous 3-1 defeat on Tuesday by Novara, who were only promoted last season. Inter also lost 1-0 to Trabzonspor at the San Siro in the Champions League and were beaten by AC Milan in the Italian Super Cup in August. Gasperini was a replacement for Leonardo, who is now at Paris Saint-Germain.

Yeah scratch that. Think we can play a decent passing game with that formation...Linking between the zones and Bafra roaming. Marveaux is still a bit of an unknown property, playing in the League Cup against Forest doesn't really change that (as far as Pardew is concerned anyway). I think he'll plan to play 4-4-1-1 with Ben Arfa in behind the striker. I think that gives him licence to play where he wants but keeps us quite solid. The midfield'll be Jonas-Tiote-Cabaye-Obertan with Cabaye playing the further forward of the midfield two. I'm not convinced any of the strikers we have can play as a loan target man but, then again, they don't look great as a two either. I agree, that's what pardoo wants. I'm trying to shoehorn Marveux in.
-
4-3-2-1 It's what Barca play. Bafra and Ba interchanging behind Best. -------> <-------- Making long balls instinctively pointless. The 442 Pardoo plays won't work against strong/3 man central midfields. However it would be better against say Manu where the wingers bomb on and the forward rotate deep.

I see him as a deep lying playmaker ala Carrick. With license to come up if we are dominating games.

You could only play one striker with them three on. ............Cabaye...........Tiote............ .......................Narveux.................. ...........................Bafra................. .......................................Ba ................ Best............... Would leave us more open than Jodie Marsh's legs that. Where would the width come from? Tiote and Cabaye can both hold man. Spurs circa when they had shit DM's... Think Guti fukcing about wasting time on the left with no end product ala a def winger (Italy 90's) is more away game material. Santon and Wilson can bomb forward anyway both have decent pace. Ba likes to drop off where Guti plays anyway. Tiote covers left channel Cabaye covers right channel

I'd like to see Marveux, Bafra and Cabaye on the pitch at the same time.
