Do you think we'll get that striker in Jan?
Park Life replied to Park Life's topic in Newcastle Forum
Rivals Newcastle and Sunderland face a January showdown for Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga. The Black Cats are poised to go head-to-head with their neighbours over the 23-year-old Mali star. Newcastle were bitterly disappointed not to land him before the August transfer window closed. Maiga, who was involved in a strike row with his club in August, is determined to land a dream move to the Premier League and named Newcastle as his preferred destination. But the Black Cats interest could spark a North-East bidding war. Newcastle thought they had all but completed a £7m deal for Maiga before Sochaux began playing hard ball over the fee. 2010– Sochaux 36 (14) But Bruce is keen to add another striker to his squad, despite securing Niklas Bendtner on loan from Arsenal as cover for Asamoah Gyan. Outside of the top 6 in all honesty. I meant to put 3/4. Think Liv will have an average season IMHO (5th or 6th)...Arsenal will come back over the next couple of months. We shouldn't really fear Spurs at home or Liv at home. I take your point however. We should beat Spurs at home, as they tend to do shite up here. However, I think people are underestimating them this season as they haven't really added to their squad, which is still rather good. Plus they've now got Adebayor, which is what they lacked last season. I'd say 4th is out of them and Arsenal, with the murderers finishing 6th. Outside of that, anything's possible. Agreed. See edit. * -

Pards likes to talk the players up and there's no harm in that as a short term strategy, especially post a comfortable win (against a workmanlike side who will be in relegation bother). IMO he's talking the team UP too early and I don't know whether its because he has a personal PR agenda or he thinks the team really need to hear this stuff. But its too early for the kind of BIG TALK he's starting to lay down. The confidence in the side is at a level where I think we can give anyone 'a game' at home as it stands, but I think it is fragile and may prove to be a false dawn if we take a couple of cainings off the top 3/4 in quick succession and then it will be a long way back to get the minds right again. The Stoke - ManU game interested me yesterday cause we saw that Stoke who 'hunt in packs' and are a big side with a lot of energy and organisation (Everton v ManC first half comes to mind), even the BIG sides in the PL can be neutralised. I'm wondering if we truly have the defensive quaities of Stoke and Everton to withstand the barrage that will come against Chelsea, ManU and ManC (look at the goal difference of the top two after so few games and look at teams on negative GD who are even in the top 12...It shows how far ahead the top 2/3 are of the pack. This season really could go either way...It's a real shame that we're missing a couple of players: a striker and one more good cover in the defensive pack. The main reason being the league is much of a muchness outside of the top 3 and we could have had a very interesting season (we have a quality midfield) IF MASHLEY HAD GONE THE EXTRA MILE IN THE SUMMER. -
Obertan: Earths' gravity is no match for him.

Liked it when he cut inside and had a whack, needs to do more of that. He had three Blackburn players stepping off him as if he had the plague It's wierd how they don't press much in midfield. -

Just got back from the match. Agree with most of them apart from Jonas. He worked his bollocks off and really helped Raylor out. Never gave the ball away as well. Saylor might be worth an 8 as well. Pretty much faultless and set up a goal. Best was neat and tidy, created a goal and did superbly to get into the position to miss his 2 sitters. Tiote was immense today. Back to his best. Still gives the ball away way to much for my liking, he's had his best game today so far though. Agree on Jonas, never stops working, helped support Enrique last season helping Raylor this one, he's got a great engine, no way I'd drop him for anyone just now. Best has a really great touch if only the fucker could shoot/head, he should have had three himself. The interchange play is becomming a joy to behold, the more they play together the slicker it'll become. I tend to rate Jonas more on his play as an attacking player. No doubts he's a hard worker. But IMO his primary role still should be to create chances. Still doing those funny slaphappy loose legged ski slopey dingly danly runs into nowhere down the left with nothing much coming from them.

The full text of Mahmoud Abbas's UN address is available. The most powerful part is the second half of the speech, especially the Palestinian leader's plea: "The time has come for our men, women and children to live normal lives, for them to be able to sleep without waiting for the worst that the next day will bring; for mothers to be assured that their children will return home without fear of suffering killing, arrest or humiliation; for students to be able to go to their schools and universities without checkpoints obstructing them. The time has come for sick people to be able to reach hospitals normally, and for our farmers to be able to take care of their good land without fear of the occupation seizing the land and its water, which the wall prevents access to, or fear of the settlers, for whom settlements are being built on our land and who are uprooting and burning the olive trees that have existed for hundreds of years. The time has come for the thousands of prisoners to be released from the prisons to return to their families and their children to become a part of building their homeland, for the freedom of which they have sacrificed." -

All I can think is its a trick to use the banks money in leu of monies coming in anyway (Give back to bank). Not sure why that would be necessary though. Or have I missed something?

I can't believe Pards is entertaining not starting him on Sat. I'd give him the first 70min. For confidence building alone its worth it. If he plays on Sat he'll score. (Not if he comes on for 12min or summink).
