  1. Everything is subject to interpretation, the prevailing one being a function of power not truth. Truth will out.
  2. Droids I was with some filmakers from from San Francisco last night in the bar and they kept getting it wrong... Anyway, the discussion centered around the fact that Star Wars woudn't have worked without the gravitas of the leading Eng actors.

  4. Once you get past 40 you cease to care about being hip, young Skywalker. At the weekend I wear red nylon slacks and a bright blue cardigan with matching flat cap, and pretend I'm American.

    Gaddafi

The end of a pretty nifty franchise. He had class and some kind of pazzazz. Never seen without one of his signature umbrellas.
  10. I agree with every word of that, and is why I also think that eventually, he will either be sacked for showing this impatience with the lack of ambition whether expressed or hinted at publicly or not [highly possible] just like Hughton was, or another club that will back him better ie someone like Wigan or Stoke, will recognise his ability and he will walk away. I hope for his sake his South London blag is apprecialted by MA. It was one of the reasons he was brought in. Think he was still doing window stuff when he played for Palace iirc (or still had the business). Think he can take a lot of pressure. Used to drink in Croydon.

  12. This wouldnt surprise me yet at the same time, completely freaks me out. rumour has it they're the same guy Parky predicted the financial crisis too, he was saying the whole thing was going to collapse in 2006, not sure he is a genius though. He has got an Einstein-like glint in his eye but my colleague reckoned she thought it was due to a mild psychosis / slightly bipolar. It's more to do with being kicked out of Physics. I still like the 'paticipatory theory' ie we'll see in the universe what we want to see and as we change it will as well... P Here's one from last year when I was arguing against the speed of light 'constant'...on a science board packed with so called 'scientists'. http://www.toontasti...=1
  13. Basically what I said but wrapped up in Chezlingo.
  14. Britain still has the ability to make a lot of money, Greece and Italy don't.
  15. Cheap shot, like. It's not as though many of us were thinking anything different at the time. You judge people on past experience, and Pardew had been sacked at Charlton after taking them down, then sacked at 3rd division Sarfampton, His track record was nothing better than average. Parky was right at the time. I'm urging caution about forgetting his past experience. Best to judge him on his last 5 jobs rather than his last 5 games. Of course, if he does a good job here long-term, we should re-evaluate based on the new experience. As yet, no better than Hughton though. Even when I'm wrong I'm right. Pardew has surprised me. He seems much more cohesive with a realistic overview and comes across well most of the time in the media. He's got that hair right now as well, the bit that flicks across.
  16. I never really bigged Hughton up on here or elsewhere because I thought he was only decent doing a decent job under difficult conditions, I admired him as a person but imo he wasn't a long term solution at a club like Newcastle. Pardew is for me a good manager, doing an excellent job under a tight budget. For me he has got it wrong a couple of times and got away with it: Qpr and Wolves. For me the fact that he's kept us unbeaten with a couple of iffy fullbacks in the side and one out of position says a lot about his ability to get the team to play one notch above its collective ability. I also think he IS pushing for transfer movement in Jan, he made some revealing comments with regard to the squad and possible issues when inj arrive, sounds ot me these were disclosure about the philosophy of our budgets and squad size that I believe is being debated behind the scenes. Pardew for me is a clear step up from Hughton.

  20. Lots of reasons for cautious optimism if it can be maintained. Still very cautious about how good we actually are given the fact i mentioned before that we're yet to beat beat anyone outside of the bottom 7. That said, we have a 100% record against everyone that's currently below where we finished last season, so even if we're not quite as good as our current position, we seem to have improved on last year...while we have a fully fit squad anyway. For the opening game of last season we had 8 of our squad out injured, 3 of which have started just about every game this season. As average as I think they are, without STaylor, Danny Simpson or Leon Best I'm not sure the squad would be coping as well. We're enjoying a Hollywood summer but....The winter is coming and with it the darkness and there are those that set their plans against us and ferment our downfall. A riderless black horse will be seen running through The Bigg market and it will begin...
