It depends on how long you think he'll be here, if he was to stay first team manager until he was 65 before moving upstairs he'd still have plenty of time to sort this club out, in his 5 years at Liverpool he finished 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 5th and 4th as well as picking up 5 trophies on the way. We wouldn't be moving him upstairs for the sake of it either as he knows football inside out, he was the technical director with the French football association when they went on to win the World cup and was credited with a lot of their success, he was also the first manager (I think) to introduce a skills coach into his coaching set up to work on players technique. That's without even mentioning the sort of players he turned Owen and Gerrard into. I'm sold.

The only problem I have with Houllier is that he is getting on a bit now. 60?

The problem I have with sacking Roeder now is that unless last season we don't have anyone in the ranks who could do a caretaker job. Pearson is the only one left who you would consider having sort of managing skills. Our coaching staff is as depleted in depth as is the playing staff. But it is a must imho to work behind the scenes to make sure we have a new manager who can take over for next season and is getting already involved in the "planning". Van Basten. For me I would have Roeder out this week, but I am aware of the 'voices of reason' saying end of season and perhaps they have a point. My main worry is that if Roeder isn't sent packing now FS won't start looking for another manager till the summer and probably leave it too late as usual. On a side issue all this waiting for Shearer lark which is the worst kept secret plan 'A'..doesn't really bear up as he hasn't even finished his 'A' badge yet to go for the Uefa Pro 'B' license..So I'm esitmating Shearer is two years away at least. Out now or wait till later?

I'm not sure any judgements should be made until a decent manager is brought in. Apart from one or two which have been obvious for a long time. Is there a slight whiff of relegation about all this or is that just silly?
