Abramovich loves football. He's spent millions in Russia setting up academies and getting kids playing the game, he helped CSKA to winning the UEFA cup, he was instumental in getting Hiddink in for the Russian national team, and then there's what he's done at Chelsea. Ashley might be enjoying himself, but I think it's clear he has no interest in being so altruistic. It's just another gamble to Ashley if you ask me, far more of a plaything than Abramovich who loved the game long before coming to England. Ashley only worries that England didn't get into the Euro's because Umbro shirt sales won't get the normal summer boost. Glad to have him here, but I don't think the comparisons are entirely accurate. Of course Abramovich's love of the game brings it's own problems, he has a strong opinion on the footballing direction of his club so you get situations like the Shevchenko purchase and Grant's coup d'etat for example. Whilst I don't know whether or how much Abramovich loves the game, a lot of the work he has done in Russia has been because of political pressures on him. He simply couldn't be seen to be pumping millions into Chelsea while ignoring his homeland, he had to do something over there. His main concern when he builds a new yacht is the plasma screens and how much footie he can consume from around the world. He really loves the game.

Gascoigne's tears trace the chronicle of tragedy foretold
Park Life replied to Dr Gloom's topic in Newcastle Forum
I thank you. But honest how many chances would we get. He is a bloke that had too much too young and blew it. He is human so deserves help but no special help IMO How is it more "special help" than any other person would be getting? There are people and institutions who are connected to him who I think have a human resonsibility to take care and probably the chances to do so. That's not in any kind different to what I would expect from any ordinary people and institutions and how I would act and have acted when it comes to people I am connected with. I don't care how many chances he had and blew. As long as someone is in a state where he needs help he should get help. Simple as. Agreed. -

Is that what Terry was doing like? Anyway, Bennett is a fucking arsehole. The farce where Chelsea's wall were refusing to go back the full 10 yards, I'm sitting there thinking "there's 5 or so Chelsea players there, you're the referee who is supposed to be in charge of the game, and they are TAKING THE PISS out of you and you're letting them." He had literally zero authority or respect from them, stood there telling them to move back and them just stood looking at him not moving an inch. Get your fucking card out, book one of them, and tell the rest of them that they're all getting one unless they step back 2 yards. If that doesn't shift them, then get the second yellow out and start shifting them off the pitch. Honestly, I would delight in putting these cocknose players in their place, and this prick actually has the opportunity to and is too weak to do it. Pathetic. Very frustrating to watch a wall basically with no inclination to move back even one inch. Cunts.

This on Sky? In the BBC interview he makes the point but he's talking more about the strength of the top 4 rather than having a go at the chairman and owner. Beeb interview here around 1min 30sec : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/m...day/7384594.stm SKY and Talksport were running the interview I quoted. Nearly moved to tears by his honesty. And rest be assured he sees it far clearer than any of us (the gulf). There is no shame trying to finish 5th or 6th next season (you can see deep down he's hurt cause he knows he can't compete). Few months ago I started a thread on N.O. that reached 20 odd pages where I was basically arguing that we need to spend £100m to compete and rightfully it attracted a fair bit of banter. I know these kinds of figures scare people and to some justifiably they might seem like big numbers, but when KK talks about not being able to get enough money in the summer I'm guessing these are the kinds of figures he has in his head. Stay as you are KK you're the best.

They had another gear basically.

Nowt. We've both been fairly poor. Very slow game. Can't say I'm displeased with the 0-0, would really like to see more from us though. An excellent display in my opinion, we've matched Chelsea in every department, played some wonderful passing flowing football. Agreed. If only we had someone in our MF who could pick a pass.

Geremi and Butt trying to pass forward are so so terrible.

Is that you agreeing? Yup.

Bale has been good in a few things recently.

You'd think by now they'd have a pair of glasses that follow where you're eye is on the screen and them press enter to 'click'. If you were using it on the train etc...

"Mike Ashley, the billionaire businessman and owner of Newcastle United Football Club, stunned gamblers at an exclusive casino by scooping £1.3 million on a single spin of the roulette wheel. Lady luck smiles on Mike Ashley, who bet on the number 17 The high-rolling gambler, ranked Britain’s 54th richest man, won the money through a series of bets totalling £480,000 centred around his lucky number, 17, at the Fifty London casino in Mayfair. It is believed the 45-year-old former owner of the Sports Direct chain left the table after just 15 minutes, almost a million pounds richer than when he walked in. According to the Mail on Sunday, the reclusive tycoon and passionate football fan saw the roulette ball slip into the number 17 slot, calmly looked up at the croupier and said: "That’ll do me, thanks very much," and walked off with his winnings to the sound of applause from other punters." Nice if you can get it.

Could be. Lovely Pringle in his Chelsea pic.
