According to the continental shelf act 1964 and the continental shelf (jurisdiction) order 1968 act 90% of UK oil resources come under Scottish jurisdiction. Regardless of where their head office is if Scotland gained independance they would have to pay the Scottish parliament for rights to the oil. And when the oil runs out, will the economy be propped up by Irn Bru sales? The oil has all but run out hasn't it?? There's always the fried Mars bars trade I guess. According to recent studies the oil has a good few years left. But the point is the oil money will be used to invest. The main thing is the self sufficiency in non nuclear and non fossil fuel energy. That will make energy bills in Scotland a 3rd of their current rates. That means more money in the economy from businesses and households. It's stuff like that that worries me. It's a pipe-dream, it's flannel to sell you something that won't actually do what it says. The technology simply isn't there for even a fairly small population to be "self sufficient" with non-nuclear and non-fossil fuel energy. Never mind with some of the infrastructure issues they'd have to deal with in Scotland geography. Honestly that is as much pie in the sky as the Tories promising 0 tax for all. Scotland recently opened a new Hydro electric plant which wil at first provide electrisity to 250,000 homes. This output is a conservative start off figure. There have been 20 further sites in Scotland that have been identified as having the same or better potential. And as for transport I would say the era of the petrol driven engine is on the horizon with the improvements in hydrogen fuelled engine technology. And guess what gets made as a by product of some hydro electricity plants. Or from sea water which Scotland has in abundance. Scotland has a rosie future it seems a shame that the bitterness which used to reside here seems to have shifted south. Wtf!!

Even better than pencil drawings that could have been done by Ray Charles?

If Scotland starts doing well it will be a travesty after sponging off us for all these years.

How it's still legal is beyond me. Almost as perplexing as why people would take it again really. Shame they closed that loophole in the law that allowed you to buy mushrooms from Kard Bar mind. If I'm honest I quite liked it. Spiritual use.

No your right Scotland has no other economy other than oil. We have no Whisky or tourism or agriculture or manufacturing or service industry so we will solely rely on the oil. You will be invaded and bow down before King Boris Johnson.

Box to box...er, funk to funky, this is captain Keeglers new midfield gem. "Paris Saint Germain star Amara Diane has admitted he would jump at the chance to join Newcastle United. The Ivory Coast star has been linked with a move to Tyneside after Kevin Keegan checked on him personally earlier this month. The 25-year-old has now told skysports.com that he would love to make the move to England. "Kevin Keegan is a dream coach, his team always plays offensive football and playing in England would be a great opportunity," he told skysports.com. "I know there is some contact between the two clubs and if an agreement is reached, I will go to Newcastle." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3564888,00.html

Keegan & Co head for France as Newcastle look to bring in striker Gomis

Fair points. Also we really need to keep some cash back for a couple of good midfielders. Just watching The Forbidden Kingdom btw. Good laugh so far. -

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/39528/Walter-wants-Gomis What;'s happened in 6 weeks to double his value? Bit like the Boumsong situation only this way we cut out the middle man. A million more than Modric for someone almost exactly the same age, who's played 3/4 as many club games and no internationals compared to 24 games and starting to run the show for Croatia. We're being mugged, but if we're going to bring anyone in maybe we have to accept that. I just wonder how he'd fit into the team. Who's place is he taking? I imagine it's a little harder to get into the French side Nicos. My point is he hasn't been tested against the best. He scored one against Lyon, but otherwise it's the likes of Metz, Lens and Toulouse where he's got his goals, French 1st division relegation bait. Ameobi is our all time second highest scorer in Europe off similar opposition. http://stats.football365.com/dom/FRA/teams/StEtienne.html You can only score against the teams you play, so he might cut it against Man U, Chelsea and that. But £17.5M+ still seems high to me for someone with his (lack of) experience. It's how the market is now man. Right, I think we should hold out for £20M for Ameobi then. If England International and European cup winner finalist Peter Crouch is going for £6M cheaper the market is fucked up. The difference to my mind is that Crouch won't improve much more, but Gomis at 22/23 is still developing and seems to have all the raw materials (more than Crouch) to be a top echelon player. He reminds me a little of Ian Wright. We did get a fair whack for Chopra ( a reserve player). In this context is why I always say that Martins should have a 20m price tag. I'll bow to your knowledge of the bloke, I've only seen the 4 or 5 goals replayed 15 times each in this thread though. He could go the other (luque) way. You've got to take risks, but I'd say you should minimise it by paying less for potential than is currently available for proven quality. I'd be perfectly happy with top 4 cast offs for the next couple of years. Ben Afra and Benzema are really special but it seems they are already spoken for or the prices are astronomical. Look at Adebayor for instance he looked utter poop in those first few games he played for Arsenal, but he's come on leaps and bounds this year as well as looking bigger and faster. Of course I agree with you in the sense that if Anelka was offered for say £12m I'd rather take that deal. If you're asking if Gomis is worth 17.5 I'd say no. But with these kinds of players you might pay 5m over the odds, but you might get 10m+ back 5 years later. I'm a bit more relaxed this year knowing that we have a team now running the rule over our targets. It must be Vetere that rates as I'm sure KK had never heard of him. -

Have to disagree, I don't think KK would be hanging around if he couldn't bring 2/3 good players in. i dont think they will be the type of players he wanted to bring in tho , maybe like modric if a star comes up for sale we will push the boat out , but only if they are the right side of 25 . all speculation (but whats wrong with some banter ?) but the club surely wont let keegan have full reign over tranfers we bring in , what if he wanted 3 experienced (28+)players ? cant see us letting him spend the budget on that can you ? be nice to think kev and wise had there own budgets , wise's youth targets shouldnt come under keegans domain unless they look close to breaking the first team . a good scenario would be keegan getting a sum of money per year todo what the hell he likes with and allowed to make cash through player sale , and wise to get a lump sum for prospects . then if ever a player comes along thats to good to not go in for , splash out , id like to think we'd splash out when and where is nescasary like , you cant call them trophy signings when they do the business out on the pitch . The strategy will be balanced and although I can't see mega fees wanting to be paid on older players (28+), I'm sure they won't be discounted out of hand. I like your idea that a certain amount of money could be set aside for KK to do what he really believes in, but on the other hand there is no reason why a round robin type discussion can't be held on all purchases. Wise might be a bit jumpy, but by all reports he has aged well and did do good things at Leeds. Vetere is another who has the type of knowledge that can unearth gems from Portugal and Spain and I reckon he will come up with the odd surprise. There is money to spend but the message is be a little careful this season.

Wildly overrated nonsense basically. And so 1995.

I agree. ANOTHER transition season when there's no reason for it other than Mike Ashley wants to get spending down. Well, season tickets are the same price aren't they? Yet there's no hope of competing if we don't get some very decent players in. Selling teenagers on for profit isn't the most fun thing I've ever looked forward to either.... It could all be a smokescreen, if we've got a few world class signings and got Owen to sign another contract I'll be happy...much less and I think we can all kiss goodbye to dreams of revisiting the glory days of the mid 90s. I honestly can't see Ashers pissing around, we'll get players KK wants (within reason). It's driving me schizophrenic. Some days I think we're in for a great summer and new season, other times I think it's all a big ruse and we're going to get shafted!! *repeatedly washes hands* It takes time to learn the way of the Parky. Nah, an overdose of drugs also does the trick...
