He's tangled up in the web he's weaved? Web of lies? -
First comment on that page. CumberlandSausage July 27, 2008 1:14 AM Bristol/gbr We need more smoking sportstars. And more beards in sport too. Ideally the two would go together. I seem to have a memory of Vialli turning up to his Chelsea press conference with 40 Marlboro Lights. The question is... are there any crap players who smoke? Is there perhaos a chance that the very best players do smoke. Cruyff, Maradona, Garrincha, Charlton, Best etc etc.

"Pictured lolling in a swimming pool during his honeymoon in June, Wayne Rooney looked like many young Englishmen abroad: high-street Bermudas, lobster tan, can of fizz, cigarette. This Englishman is, however, the country's most talented footballer, and the cigarette caused a rumpus. Pundits grumbled their disappointment and anticipated the hairdryer treatment from his manager. Other commentators - the smokers, at a guess - came to Rooney's defence. There was little agreement on how the occasional stick might affect his football." "In the past 18 months, footballer Dimitar Berbatov, tennis player David Ferrer and champion jockey Seb Sanders have all come out (or been outed) as smokers. 'To some extent you can overcome smoking's adverse effects by heavy training,' says Professor Martin Jarvis, a clinical psychologist at UCL who is an expert on smoking. 'The nasty things from tobacco smoke are not going to impact immediately on your capacity to run, jump and so on..." Smokers of the world unite and take over. http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/07/...ing_desire.html

We could have done with these two: Johan Elmander Toulouse £10m + swap Fabrice Muamba Birmingham £5.5m

The only thing that matters is the league table at the end of the season.

I'd be happy to have 'squad' players through the door, let alone star players. Yes, I can see some of the longer term benefits that we've implemented but football isn't like a normal business, you need results on the pitch otherwise your future ends up in the non-profitable leagues outside the Prem. I'm all for making changes to the financial structure but we should have steady things with our game first and made sure we were going to be able to compete for a top eight spot. We definitely need a few bodies in, don't get me wrong. I wonder why we aren't raiding the lesser teams for their better players, I mean there must be some - how much different from Championship Manager can it be -
Disagree. These to me look like very important comments, coming as it does from someone like Les. Saying it because he cares about the club rather than just to stir the shit imo. Yup.

Senderos better than what we have clearly. Just.

Barring Owen, Viduka, Martins, Barton, Gutierrez, etc. etc. well gutierrez should still be available at the start of the season at least! I'm beginning to wonder if they're holding onto his registration. -
