How do you we've been shafted if you don't know much about him? you don't think £10m is over the odds for a centre half? even a top draw one? No, I don't. You'll always put a negative spin on anything though. Zzzzzzzz tbh. I suppose you were moaning when we paid £9m for Woodgate? No, didn't think so. Weren't you moaning about about Ashley not flashing the cash? Now he has, we've been mugged. I don't know a lot about the lad btw, so I don't know whether we've been mugged or not. He's a good player by all accounts. I was a little nasty about him last week only cause I was in a bad mood. He'll turn out better than Woodgate once he gates the pace. -
We're going to need a fair bit of luck with injuries. Collocini was previously indestructable, I'll give him 3 games If he lasts 3 games he'll get an injury that puts him out for the rest of the season. I'm just worried that we still don't have the players to really play anything but the "Keegan" formation we played last season (which hinged on all 3 of out main strikers being fit). Having little (but hoofs) coming through the middle means we'll need some excellent wingers to make a more traditional 4-4-2 work, and even then the right combination of forwards playing. Just biding me time till I lay the smackdown on the new board.

BFITW Low turnout for sure. But then, we've finished in the bottom half 2 years running and it's just a friendly, we'll still be around 50K for the first home game proper against Bolton. The last time Spurs finished in the bottom half 2 years running they only got 28,000 for their opening Premier League fixture the following season. BFITW?

By Telegraph staff Last Updated: 10:22AM BST 07 Aug 2008 No hurry: Michael Owen believes contract negotiations will take time Photo: Getty Michael Owen appears in no rush to sign a new contract at Newcastle, despite the fact his current deal will expire next summer. The 28-year-old England international has had two meetings to discuss extending his stay, but believes negotiations will "take time". Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is looking to slash the club's £70 million annual wage bill, but Owen, who reportedly earns £115,000 a week at St James' Park, is unlikely to accept a pay cut. "We have been opening contract negotiations, there have been a couple of meetings so far but it will take time," Owen told the Daily Mirror. Owen has been frustrated by injury and the mumps ahead of the new Premier League season, which starts on August 16. "It is certainly not the ideal build-up," he added. "In the successful seasons in my career I have always had a good preseason, and when not I have struggled a bit." Sneaky. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...-Newcastle.html

Someone challenges another of those NUFC myths and back come TTs sensitive types. "Please admin, ban this WUM....Peeeerrrrrrwwwweeeaaasssseee" As ever, you miss the point. This is how it starts though Alex: I post a stat in response to a stat posted by Stevie You think "wait a minute, this isnt looking good for us" and post, "This is boring" Then one of your mates then chips in "what has this got to do with NUFC (even though, that is what were discussing)" Then another one pipes up "why are you even here" Then "Admin ban this WUM" I just feel you all might be a little over sensitive. Write to the U.N.

Good news and ok we might have paid a little over, but If we'd have just missed him over a million or two I'm sure people would be far more unhappy. -

He'll be asking for a payrise on the back of that.

I don't doubt that one more striker would benefit the squad, but then I'm an advocate of strength in depth. I just don't see a striker as our priority. There's no point in buying a back up striker when we're lacking a starting creative midfielder. Knowing how injury prone Owen & Viduka are though, that leaves just Oba up front with the possibility of Smith supporting him in attack. Owens clearly a starter when fit as is Oba but I would say any other place is up for grabs and particularly when one is so injury prone there has to be a reasonable replacement so stand in/threaten a starting place. You're basing the need for a striker on "what if we lose x & y", I'm saying an AMC (forgive the FM parlance) is our first and most pressing priority because we haven't got anyone at all. There is nobody ahead in the queue for the new lad, we desperately need an AMC, otherwise there's no point in having strikers at all. We're not going to create enough chances for the three of them anyway. Agree. AMC is a bigger priority.
