    Shame

Dear oh dear Parky - that was my old employer Gauis Julius Caesar - I said to him "don't go sarf, mate - it'll be the death of you...." but some folk never listen....... He wasn't the first to march on Rome btw.

Exactly. When Stevie is in full flow I can hardly keep me tea down.
  6. Stick to yer guns till we have one def left. Cock off knobber, things have notably changed since my original appraisal. I would have put Faye as second choice Centre half. Faye will be replaced KK said so, which still leaves the original conundrum. Savvy?

Why lock the most entertaining threads? If anything give them their own forum. ie Stevie Kicks off. (Cert 18 Forum) or Rob W reminisces about the time he crossed the Rubicon and marched on Rome.. J69 on stalking famous footballers. etc..
  8. Thread.Straws.Grasping. Ultra-crock.
  9. Over 93% disagree. Never seen a poll like it.
  10. We can debate that, but the fact is that the Viera of old was never replaced adequately. With him playing well Arsenal could sometimes up the tempo instantly and go straight forward, inststead of now where they normally go sideways first. For me the aging/retirement of Bergkamp has left Arsenal a shadow of itself more than them not replacing Viera. Besides the fact he was a sneaky, dirty cunt, his ability to conjure something out of nothing makes him as influencial as to Arsenal as Cantona was to Man United. Yes Viera may have channelled the play down the centre of the park but it was Bergkamp that broke the opposition's defence. The difference is that Bergkamp provided for Arsenal for ten years (and thus making it harder to replace him and look at those they tried to with and failed - Reyes, Van Persie, the Nordic Crouch) whereas Cantona was only at Man U for five seasons. Yup, good point about Bergkamp.

With him playing well Arsenal could sometimes up the tempo instantly and go straight forward, inststead of now where they normally go sideways first. Wenger probably felt he never needed to having Cesc coming through the ranks due to the cover he already had with regards to 'holding' midfielders. Fair enough. But Cesc for me is more of a triangle player and doesn't have the presence to bully through the middle (He did even try 'the beast'). For instance Wengers fav ploy of the forward dropping middle left to pick up the ball, was quite often foiled when up against a quality RB monitoring that movement. In fairness to AW he does sell players at the right time, perhaps due to money he didn't go straight out and get the 'holder' who can from time to time go through the middle. The purity Arsenal often show is actually a weakness. Witness Man U, sometimes two 'holders' but with pace and power to go straight through the middle without going sideway.....Something Barca haven't addressed for a while imo. Tempo, tempo, tempo....

  13. Was he tupping the white yew? I am the white me. One of Wengers mistakes in mho was faliure to see gilberto silva was neve going to be mobile enough to fill the hole left by Viera. Flamini came through and saved his arse to an extent, but he's gone now. AW should have gone out and got a real gansta sitter type like John Makoum (sp) or Essien. Of course they are looking at Annan now (Essien clone).
  14. As you say Gessa and Zog can cover and Tayls at a stretch. CM and striker are more pressing imho.

  16. They never really replace that big black bloke who went to Italy.
  17. That's ok then. As I mean Ferdinand has always been as solid as he is now and his positioning or dwindling on the ball has never been suspect. Aye pretty much. There's that sense of class and reliability about him which is why before he was 24 he had moved for fees totaling £49m. Has the pace for good recovery when caught out as well.
  18. I would like another striker and a central midfielder.
  19. they are all a season ahead of us IMO (Spuds only because they have bought well this window) I have a feeling we are looking at a season of mid-table mediocrity, which is fine if we buy well next year Despite what I feel, with our squad not being the strongest, I know for a fact Keegan won't accept that. With the players he's got he may not have a choice in the matter... Which is what I implied, but Keegan from the offset won't just tell the team that's all they should be aiming for. oh absolutely, I just dont see us winning the games we should, and losing the games we shouldn't Although friendlies aren't an indicator we had some very good spells against Valencia and PSV (both good sides) and that was essentially with out 'B' team.
  20. they are all a season ahead of us IMO (Spuds only because they have bought well this window) I have a feeling we are looking at a season of mid-table mediocrity, which is fine if we buy well next year Nah, we'll be top 8 at worst. Spurs seem to have bought well, but for me lack a solid center. One of this group inc Pompey and Villa should challenge for top 4, which we aren't ready for, but we will give a good account of ourselves. Kk seems to have got through to Duff which is a bonus for us already. A lot of it as always will rely on the fitness of Owen and Martins.
  21. Fuck off man, you've never seen them play In fairness I haven't seen much of Guti, but he looked our best player in the friendlies and gave me some hope.
  22. Guti and Collo are both very good players. Guti especially will be quite the revelation once he settles in. They are both a long way better than anyone we had in those relative postions and a significant step up. Although protracted and clearly complicated, the club must be congratulated in going out and getting these kinds of players. If we can get one more central midfielder and a back up striker (Derydiok for example) then we should have a decent and maybe surprising season ahead of us. Some of the teams I put in our bracket or thereabouts (Spurs, Villa, Pompey, Man City) all have weaknesses of one sort or another and with a bit more luck with general fitness and imjuries we can hold our heads up high.
