Other than it being fairly common knowledge a week earlier that a deal had been agreed in principal with Spurs for £22m, this was then backed up by 'Arry talking about our transfer dealings the day after. Other than that good solid information that they were going to accept £22m I agree, there is nothing to say theyd have caved in to an additional 8m

"Newcastle would have gone bust if Ashley hadnt come in." Thats not speculation like? you say that enough

cant believe it took 6 hours for someone to do.

he's living in a B and B in Whitley Bay, claiming benefits, and was in the back seat of your taxi last night, with the approval of Rob W indeed - I am a close personal friend -he's very much maligned and misunderstood Extraordinary fella. damn you and your faster lyrical prose

knock yasel out with this lot, you'll find this is one of his more useful ones > http://www.toontastic.net/board/index.php?...ult_type=topics

Why not? as long as its only in that area then I could see that being a good idea. I'll give Simon Esland a call let him know you suggested it

Definitely cant complain, we need to keep kids tickets as low as possible but using it as the excuse to silence the vocal fans is not on. Losing the singing section could be a bigger threat to the season than losing Barton or Nolan tbh. If it backfires then you could need to reduce those tickets even further.

I dont see any issue with that, its the Family Enclosure so fair game. Its actually good to see the club getting the local college involved.

Ive just realised as one of the joint Chairs then its our job to get rid of the dead wood, theres no place for hangers on in this board. Its time for a clear out, Im thinking of putting in a bid for http://www.spartanszone.com admittedly it probably means we still have J69 like.

is one of those dedicated to people who cant post in the right forum? -
Theres been an offer of £50k for CT to move to Newcastle Online. Unfortunately I cant afford to go any higher than that though, already remortgaged the house and sold the car

I think we're probably getting a bit round in circles between us. Im not arguing whether he is or isnt worth any extra cash, my post relates to your assertion that for footballers, past performance shouldnt be used to decide future contracts.

That match worn Smith shirts got to be worth going for it'll be prisitine, not a mark on it and definitely no sweat patches. -
We're not talking about that though, we're on about the renewing of contracts. How can you expect to make decisions on either renewing a contract or getting shot without looking at their performance?
-
Im sorry like but thats bollocks. Its nothing to do with "normal office life" or the amounts of money someone is on. Previous performance is how you measure someones worth in the workplace, regardless of industry*. You cannot make decisions on future pay or future employment without looking at past performance. Yes he was handsomely paid for what he did but if he exceeded the expectations then he sees his market worth go up. Whether we pay him that is neither here or there in this discussion as no matter how good a job hes done for us Im not 100% sure I would be happy handing him a long and lucrative contract. Actors are not part of the normal workplace but they are paid contracts based on past performance, if Tom Cruises films had all bombed at the box office do you think he'd command £100m for his next film? would he shite, he'd be playing a barman in some crappy porn shoot for $50 and a suck off from the leading man. I fail to see how you can argue anything other, like I said in the last post you'd sure as hell be taking past performance into account if he'd been shit. You did it with Smith. *time lords not applicable.
-
I totally and utterly disagree. Would you go into pay negotiations at work and ignore the fact you've worked way above the expected? If so, what would you use as your argument for being better paid? that you may work even harder next year? On the opposite side of the table, if you were the employer then you'd be using their past performance to decide future pay. If, as a manager a member of staff came in and said "I want a pay rise", would you ignore the fact theyve consistently missed every target, spent six months on the sick and when they were here spent the time on some NUFC message board? That after all is how we would have decided what he was worth paying at the start of his contract ie we'd take into account the level of performance at Bolton and decide how much we that level was worth to us. Under your logic we might as well renew Smith on better terms as we'll not take into account the fact hes been a total and utter waste of air.
-
Hes right though, its not easy to measure that, you can argue that they'll score more goals, win more games, concede less but arguing that a squad is stronger in terms of the ability of the playing staff is difficult. If you mean we'll have more bodies in then yes, measurable, if you replace Barton, Nolan and Enrique with 6 championship players then are we stronger? unlikely, unless the FA relax the rules and let us play 6-6-3.

Now i can understand the default assumption regarding the board doing the wrong thing but as it stands, we still have the same lads at the club and you've got excellent form for predicting incorrectly how they will do. Anyway as an antidote to that view (however realistic for now) Im always happy to be proven wrong on my predictions Unfortunately I have a pretty good track record when it comes to the transfer side of things. Again, I hope Im totally wide of the mark. Knowing this lot like we do, reports of £12m bids tabled mean nothing, thats not me doubting the French press btw its me doubting the legitimacy of any bid we place as we have a habit of talking big around signings and then failing to deliver. In 2 days time STs go on general sale and the club know they need to convince people to buy. Ive seen no indications of what Lille will accept for him but theres nothing to say that they havent slapped a £15m price tag on and we're purposefully bidding big money but just not quite big enough. As I said in the N'Zog thread, whether I think hes worth it or not, if we end up paying £12m for a player that the manager has requested who only has a year left on his contract then I will see that as a serious intent to do the right thing. Same here, rumoured tabled bids are meaningless, if its accepted and we convince the player to come then people can start to crow. You're right though on the net spend front, if we are tabling serious bids of £12m then you can be sure theres at least one big sale in the pipeline.

aye fair point like

You hang onto these people on the hope that they turn out to be real. And why? because thats how this whole thing happens on the net these days. Someone hears a rumour, snippet of info etc and repeats it however when they do some of them make out that theyre ITK, others then read it and the cycle repeats. An hour later and suddenly its all over twitter/ facebook and the likes of here. People see it getting repeated and instead of putting 2 and 2 together and realising its simply regurgitation of the same thing they see it as proof the person who told them it was right and is therefore ITK. Me and Ritchie know this from experience, the Schweinsteiger thing was a great example. Within a couple of hours of us pushing the story it was all over the net, 5 Live were discussing it and later that day the chairman of Bayern was issuing a statement telling people it was shite. You no doubt hunt these things out and hang on the hope because its a great conversation piece for the cab/ when standing with colleagues. If it comes off you look ITK. Im not calling you for it btw most of us do it. It just takes time to realise its a waste of time. Its only when you start getting legitimate info from real life people that you know exist and know their connections that you filter out the shite. Half the stuff I hear I ingnore, others I check with certain people, if theyve had it from their good sources then I start to believe it. Sometimes even those real ITKs dont know about it. With that in mind a good 90% of the stuff currently doing the rounds will likely turn out to be shite. As Tom said though, proper ITK stuff is generally just a short bit of info. Nolan has rejected a contract, Bartons had a barney, that sort of thing. When it becomes "Nolan rejected a contract offer of 50k, told Dekka he was a cock and is off to West Ham" then you can be fairly sure its, at best, a gross exaggeration of something much smaller.
-
What you dont realise is that theres only 3 of you are real, the rest are bots I created. Trouble is I totally got my figures wrong when setting the smug, fuckwit and cluelessness levels for CT hence the posts we see now. What makes matters worse is it seems to have got a mind of its own. This is how Skynet started out Im telling ya.

I remember going to work with my dad when I was 17, went on site down in London and from the moment he stepped onto site until the point we left it every other word he uttered was fuck, c***, twat or wanker. Totally surprised me as Id never heard him say anything like that before. he had the logic that "industrial language" was for the workplace and still does. Mind his inherent racism is a different matter altogether.
