  1. I think that where you see the wage cap as being the reason they move on I see it as the means for Ashley to ensure it happens. Irritatingly though, when the inevitable transfers come the fans fight among themselves with one side taking the "greedy fucker" stance while the others see it as an inevitability. Dekka and Ash meanwhile laugh all the way to the bank.
  2. Which actual players fit this model? Ashley didnt buy Carroll, Milner or N'Zogbia and didnt make a profit on Barton, Nolan or Enrique. Not sure you can use Carroll as an example of the model as he came from the academy and therefore has no relevance to the purchase of players in the market. He has a huge relevance ie bought for zero and sold for £35m = £35m profit. Thats the ultimate but even Ashley knows he cannot put out a team of academy players so he has to buy in. Its irrelevant if Ashley bought Milner (8m), N'Zog (5.75m), Carroll (35m), Beye (0.6m?), Bassong (7.5m), Given (5m) etc, the profit is still a profit. Those 6 alone have realised a purchase/sale profit of over £60m. Yeah but equally you can make the point that, Carroll aside, those players were all bought while we were still a 'spending club' (in relative terms). And Ashley has run a spending club-so those profits are made on selling the bigger ticket/recognised players. Might as well carry on with that model in that case as that's whats proven. Spending club? Those 6 cost a total of just under £8m, if anything the purchase of those players and their subsequent sales galvanise the fact that you dont need to spend mega bucks to make a profit. Why do you think it is that so many of our recent purchases are through clauses in the contract or appear to be purchased below their market value? Purchases often seem to be made this season on whether we can get them in cheap rather than if we actually need them to fill a gap. its a bit like the bent bargains corner in Tesco, you dont really need that massive cream cake but come on its half the normal price, you'd be daft not to. Often however it goes in the fridge and has gone off before you can eat it. We're now essentially looking at players where theres little or no competition for signature-and where there is competition you can pretty much guarantee our interest will end. That for me is the defining factor. You could use that for either side of the argument tbf, if theres no competition then they cannot be as good as they are being bigged up to be. Surely we cant have the only scout thats able to spot potential in Inter Milan players? The logic seems to be though that they will come into the first team and hopefully perform, if they do then their value will increase. Its a win/win for the club, they get a player on the cheap that performs well and the profit margin is even greater if/when we come to sell him. Its all a gamble but by scouting out the players that seem to be undervalued then we're increasing our chances of winning that gamble. Im not even arguing that is necessarily a bad way to do things as long as its not the only way we do them. A good mix of established Premiership players with good pedigree and proven ability as well as undervalued "gambles" to bring through the ranks. More importantly, that strategy works if you reinvest the sale money on a further combination of the above not just even cheaper replacements.
  3. Went for a pint, piss and bet in that order too. What was it? Vera Lynn - Anniversary Waltz
  4. tbf there never was a tolerance of Standing, the problem beforehand was they couldnt distinguish in L7 as almost everyone stood and all but those at the very front could argue that they had no option but to stand because the entire row in front did. Now everyone has been scattered then they can spot those that stand a lot easier and sort them out. Its the law and (quite rightly) theres nothing anyone can do apart from campaign for a change in the law.
  5. I have no problem with us winning ugly, frankly I'll take any three pointer. What I do have an issue with is the sudden wankfest on twitter where people are talking top 4 finishes and stating "fantastic result". It was a sloppy win over Fulham against the run of play. Its anything but European form. We've done well over the first 3 games but none of the performances instill confidence that the seasons going to be a good one. You do realise that the majority of these will be the younger Newcastle fan who are quite within their right to get excited by games and dream the impossible. If you're too young to realise that a scrappy win over Fulham is anything but a fantastic win then you should be too young to use a computer.

  9. As a cheap businessman, Ashley sees the ability to buy a piece of business machinery at price x, use it for 1 or 2 years and then sell it on for price x + y as a fantastic piece of business (and in the normal world it would be). Imagine being a courier firm, buying a van for £5k which costs £50 p/w to run, using it for 2 years then selling it for £12k before going out and buying a new younger replacement van for £4k, that costs £70 p/w to run. This is how he sees footballers. Sometimes it works and he now has the ultimate model in his head, Carroll purchase price zero, sell for £35m, replacement £6m
  10. That made me spit coffee seeing as I read the last line as part of the Pardew Statement.
  11. Sick of hearing stuff like this, knowing full well it's true. It's patently not true in the sense you mean though. It involves a risk; the fat bastard is hardly clairvoyant. If Santon's any good then he will be, like every other player we have, effectively for sale to anyone who will offer him better wages. The primary motive in getting him won't be to turn a massive profit on him though-if he's good we'll want to keep him-however we will lose him if he's offered more wages and then it will be an exercise in finding out how big a fee can be achieved. Thats the bit I disagree, albeit it, based on personal belief but with a fair bit of history to back it up. I believe these players are purchased with the express hope that they'll make it big and move on for a profit. If not then we would be offering bigger wages and desperately trying to hold onto players instead of firing up the chopper at the first sign of a sale. Youre right about the risk though but thats no different to the risk involved in them coming good and staying.
  12. If this kid is as good as hes being made out then great signing but Im in the same camp as Gemmill and Ant here, if hes so good then why arent Inter keeping him or for that matter, Cesena making a bid? or any one of a dozen Champions League/ UEFA teams? Interested to know what it is we're using to sell the club to these players to make them pick us over Roma? Because even the most deluded of fans cant see us as being a better team to choose? Although the ultimate benchmark on that front is CT. The fact others arent rushing for him (a la Ben Arfa) and his dodgy injury record (a la Ben Arfa) makes him a gamble, as most Ashley signings are. Hopefully this one will come good. Still, Im assuming that to get to medical stage then we've already concluded the personal terms so the sticking point of us not paying the going rate isnt a problem. Overall though, I'll take a risky gamble over the prospect of no signing at all.
  13. How anyone can swallow the shit that this club puts out and then still have the brass fucking neck to slate players for leaving when theyve clearly been told to fuck off and do one is beyond me. Fans who have seen this lot been proved as lying in a court of law, lying to us time and time again, "Carrolls not for sale, no chance", "well spend the Carroll money", "Enriques not going anywhere", "were buying someone" etc etc etc etc etc etc Fans who have personally been shit on by this lot, "in the singing section? well fuck off" and yet they still take it as read that what the club say happened did. CT I understand, Llambias could tell him we were selling the entire first team and using the money to clone the DNA of Pele and he'd lap it up but most of those normal sensible lads on twitter are now going mental about how hes screwed the club and fans over. And why? Because hes gone to QPR, its a tribal thing and what has pissed you off is hes gone to a "small club", footballers dont give a shit about crowd numbers or how big the stadium is, its about ambition, chances of glory and the pay cheque. Weve had the "what makes a big club" discussion a dozen times and its got fuck all to do with how many fans they have. Face it, were small time and getting smaller by the day. As Craig pointed out, coming from good sources that Barton was basically told that he would be dropped come September and never get a game again and yet people would still rather he had stayed, screwed his career and ended up with no Premiership football to talk about again.
  14. I don't see how he would be a parasite. He'd be providing a very good service for which he would be justifiably given a decent salary. Where as the only service Smith gives, is modelling the fuckin kit, and he still looks like a mug. He's well in to his motorbikes Smith, I'm not saying I want him to do a Barry Sheen, but if he come off one and broke his leg we wouldn't have to pay his wages. I'll feel happier when Smith's contract ends than when Souness left and Jenas was sold. The definition of parasite. He could go back to Leeds but he won't cos he's happy on the bench collecting his obscene wages. And if the fat man dug his heels in and refused to play him (which I could see happening tbh). So he was effectively sitting at home watching the racing and collecting his money?
  15. One thing that gets me about those that say "Joey should stay and collect his wages for 12 months". Would that not make him a parasite? We slate Smith for doing exactly that and yet the difference is that he actually appears to be wanted by the club.

  18. Think you're directing your bitterness at the wrong people personally. No I'm not. I would have given Barton a 2 year extension as I rate him and think the club are wrong. What I find laughable is Barton tweeting about not wanting to leave then going to a shitty team like QPR. He could stay but the 80-100k p.w. on offer makes him think otherwise. Aye, he could stay for the rest of this season (and only that) and potentially lose the chance to make megabucks. Only an idiot would either do that or expect it of him (or anyone else for that matter). It's a bit like me winning the lottery tomorrow and people having a go at me for not giving it all to charity. I mean I could do that. What fucking planet are you on? You are a fucking knob, he's on 50k a week here and would still get a big money move at the end of the season. Your comparison is laughable you cant guarantee that, wheres the other big money moves now then? so far only QPR have come in for him. Another season and hes a year older. He could stay, be played regularly and set the world alight, get picked by Capello and manage a move to a CL club at the end of the season. More likely though he could stay not be played or played and not take the set pieces, have a shite season and be offered moves to the likes of Leeds or Leicester next season. Moving to QPR would guarantee him a contract and even possibly increase his England chances. At least Capello might actually turn up there.

Jesus wept man! I know his lass, thats just plain wrong!
  20. If he even gets to play though, make them look stupid this final time and it wouldnt surprise me to see Joey sat with the kids for the next year regardless of how much hes needed or Pardew wants him.
  21. Suffice to say, not an apologist, just a realist. Will respond to anything of interest tomorrow when I'll be working from home, am in the smoke just now, new gig. You're Joey Barton in disguise!
