I work in Anaesthetics and ICU, not A&E, and I see the after effects of these resuscitations, which are frequently catastrophic, especially with prolonged down times (by which I mean half an hour) Either that 2 hour figure isn't quite right or he had some bloody good CPR. Either way, delighted to be wrong.

Well we had Hugo Viana a few years back...

Moving all four limbs and even speaking apparently, which is nothing short of miraculous!

Aye, I thought this morning that if his brain has been starved of oxygen for two hours it really doesn't look good for the poor lad. Whats the best the family can expect do you think? Honestly? That his relatives are screened for heart abnormalities amenable to treatment that will prevent future tragedies. I really hope I'm wrong.

Well if they can cancel one for Princess Di...on the other hand, without wanting to continue to be pessimistic, I predict they'll be cancelling more games come next weekend. Although having looked at the beeb Blackburn are already willing to cancel their game if Bolton aren't ready, and there is talk of them pulling out of the FA cup because it will be too traumatic for them to go back to WHL. As sad as Muamba's case is (and he's not even dead yet) I think this is taking it too far.

Pathetic isn't he, especially how he tries to pin the blame on his daughter.

Just heard on the radio they didn't get return of spontaneous circulation (his heart beating on its own) for 2 hours. I think he's fucked tbh, poor kid, 23 is no age.

Therapeutic cooling is a treatment to attempt to protect the brain from what I was talking about in my post. It's as simple as it sounds - you cool the patient (sedated and ventilated of course) down from a normal body temperature of 37 degrees C to between 32-34 degrees by a variety of methods, and maintain them at this low temperature for 24 hours. It makes the brain less active, reduces its need for oxygen and prevents it from swelling. It's been show to significantly improve neurological outcomes following arrests, however overall picture is still poor - patients are frequently just down for too long. Yes Cath, we do, including for the two patients I mentioned in my post. Both had downtimes (time without heart beating) of at least 20 minutes as well.

Of course stable is better than unstable but most victims of cardiac arrest suffer profound neurological damage as the brain is starved of oxygen even if they do get the heart started again. Obviously guessing but he's probably sedated on a ventilator atm. I'd wait til they turn the sedation off in a day or two before getting too optimistic. As Cath says out of hospital arrests have a dire prognosis, but with expert bystander CPR he's got the best chance given the circumstances. We've had a couple of patients on ICU recently where their relatives commenced CPR as soon as they collapsed and they've made decent neurological recoveries.

The Most Exotic Marigold Hotel. Flimsy contrivance to get Dench et all out to India but a such a cast simply cannot fail to deliver, a very enjoyable way to while away an afternoon. Nice cinematography of the Indian sun highlighting their withering faces n'all! -

if only the toon were as consistent as KSA. -
I hope you've punished yourself appropriately. Wolves have lost home to Blackburn, the latter's first clean sheet of the season!

You'll have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel

Congratulations, hopefully this will be the end of people depositing their testicles on your timepiece.

My housemate has unplugged my freezer and everything has defrosted. can I just re-freeze it all or am I going to get the squits from my sausages/mince etc?

Tell us more about the dry fisting..

I was sticking up for you (albeit in a tongue in cheek way). We all feel like that sometimes - I certainly have recently. But it's a fine evening, work is better and I've met someone who's really great- so you never know what is around the corner. Although you shouldn't just sit around waiting for something - make it happen.

Tbf to MT if you can't feel wallow in self pity on an Internet message board then where can you?

Messi's career only really took off after he was inspired by Shola's performance in the Nou Camp in 2003.

Having a previous heart attack at the age of 36 suggests he wasn't the healthiest of fellas (dunno if being a fast food manager would have anything to do with that). RIP.

Not surprised if everyone sends in the sort of overhit/high lofted shite that Taylor did yesterday. -

Agree with most of that. In addition I thought pretty much all of the 19 corners we had were rotten. I knew Ba was going to miss, just knew it. Shola should have taken it, thankfully he still showed us he's the top man for this fixture. -
Man utd have accepted the apologies (although as far as I could tell, they weren't addressed to them), they must be sick of the whole ordeal.
-
They're apologising to Liverpool rather than to Evra and the greater footballing community, and only for the events of yesterday, not for their behaviour over the last four months. Woefully inadequate.

Tbf to my flatmate he's said it's getting harder and harder to support the club so I retract my comment.
