Didn't she swim a better time than Beijing for one of them?
-
Agree re 5 live, they improved towards the end as the finals and athletics medals came in but for the most part it was just build up to or post mortem of 'Team GB's exploits. I drove from Leeds to Liverpool and back on the first Sunday and didn't hear a word of live commentary.

Film/moving picture show you most recently watched

Let The Right One In is brilliant. -
Exactly. Calvin Harris would have been great.

I did think that considering it was a party for the athletes it was a bit unfair that they had to wait outside for half of it. I'm not saying it should be a history lesson, just some other form of entertainment than a very tired and aged Who would have been an improvement. At least there was some Morris dancing when Eric Idle came on. And I didn't say this last night, but hats off to Gary Barlow.

Watching it from home was painful. Sometimes I think we overplay our "great musical heritage" card - if you look at Beijing, Greece etc pop music only forms a small part of their history and what they're about yet pretty much our entire show was music from the last 60 years, and most of it from towards the end of that period, dirge after dirge sung by past it has-beens. At least Jessie J sang something fresher than fifteen years old.

Fucking hell, I'd had enough of the music when they were playing GOOD songs.

I completely agree, but people won't get as excited like you hoped for in your original post. This closing ceremony is mint. Heart momentarily stopped when that taxi door opened, thought it was Macca again.
-
I think you're going to be disappointed. It just isn't the same, is it?
-
Lennox Lewis, asked to explain the count back and doesn't have a clue. Expert analysis.
-
I hope Geoff Shreeves breaks it to him gently. Fitting that the put it at Villa Park, who gives a shit.
-
Gold for Joshua in the super heavyweight!
-
Meanwhile he's just made the most sensible post of the day in the Olympics thread.
-
I couldn't agree more. Post of the day!
-
I was taking the piss with that one. I respect your ability to identify it as a prejudice, and agree let's move on and enjoy the last day. I would have posted this earlier but was busy and ironically waiting until I sat down to watch the boxing before I replied. Not going to reply to Chez as this has fuck all to do with him and I've made my views perfectly clear. Evans looks in trouble, 5 points down going into the third.

Leazes was always worst when he got in from the pub too, alcohol exposes your inner prejudices.
-
Perhaps, but you're painting with broad strokes there. Not all Muslims/Somalis think the same (even if they look it..). I'm not at all religious but I can see the positives in such a gesture. I was struggling to remember the last time people were weirdly and unnecessarily hostile to someone displaying their PERSONAL faith at a moment of profound PERSONAL importance to them, thanks for reminding me it was Muamba. You guys must be a hoot at weddings... "if anyone has any objections-" "YEAH! What the FUCK are we doing in a CHURCH when it's ALL a load of FUCKING BULLSHIT, you STUPID CUNTS"
-
Shame he isn't here still, you two could make up over this. Ugandan fella winning the marathon has just done the same, as Renton puts his foot through the telly. Bolt crossing himself before his races presumably ok.
-
Sorry, NYD. You three letter usernames all look the same to me.
-
There is a team award which they will of course win. Wiggins for the main award, Hoy for 'lifetime achievement', Bolt for overseas, Daley for youngster and the cycling manager for coach.
-
I wasn't patronising you, I was trying to he restrained in my response to a can of worms that you admit you didn't want to open and I wish you hadn't either. I was just taken aback at how you in particular could make such spectacularly unpleasant and inappropriate comments. We have a fantastic role model for British Muslims (because like it or not Renton, there are a lot of them and they're not going away) at a time when the relationship with them and the rest of Britain isn't exactly perfect (look at ADP's retarded comments), and the first thing you say of his achievement is to criticise him for respecting his faith. Then compound matters by singling out Islam over other religions in this regard. Makes for very uneasy reading, incredible small-mindedness and I expect a lot better from someone who's usually so intelligent and balanced.
-
How nice.

Fucking hell, you'd think a devout Muslim proud to be British winning two gold medals would be hailed as a fantastic success of a multicultural and integrated Britain instead of something to moan about. You can add Renton's unhappiness at seeing Mo's pray to Mecca in with that as well.
