  1. Both done in Iraqi territory where the iranians are acting illegally. Spot on about the last bit though.
  2. The laughing gnome (beware drugs kids make you look a right wanker).
  3. It surely can't be that real....I mean 300 Greeks holding back 50,000 Persians... There are some nice bits in it.. Yep it wasn't just 300 Spartans, it was 300 Spartans, a maybe couple of 1000 helots from Sparta, as well as a few 1000 other troops from various Greek sources. So it was probably 4000-7000 Greeks against 75,000-300,000+ Persians. The were still hugely outnumbered by the Persians, however, but they chose their (narrow) ground well and quite simply the Persians probably couldn't bring enough numbers to bare to overwhelm the Spartan/Greek phalanx long speared killing machine (although there’s also accounts of them using fainted routs to draw their enemy in, before turning and destroying them – something that couldn’t have been done without the utmost skill, discipline and training) . Possibly they also underestimated them initially and by the time they didn’t the scale of casualties inflicted would have already sapped Persian morale massively. There are examples of similar things (although probably not quite as dramatic) in military history right up until firearms stopped that sort of thing being as effective tbh. Frankly trying to take a Greek Phalanx without flanking it was probably something like trying to stop an industrial meat grinder by throwing meat into it, possible, but it was going to take a lot of “meat” to do it. 300 Spartans not sure about Helot numbers. 300 Thebans and 700 Thespians (spent most of their time striking dramatic poses and emoting).
  4. I do a "Paradise by the dashboard light" duet with my mate....and yes he does the man bits Oh come on Radgi I bet you have done the mans bits more than once yourself
  5. Not sure I would call; 97 wins, 93 losses, 60 draws, an average job, that's about a 38% win ratio. Below average?
  6. Anyone heard of this. I am doing an essay on it and cos i hate psychology I am ripping it to bits.
  7. When I was in Germay I used to go out with a girl who rode a Vespa. Wjen i stayed at hers I would make her drop me off a street away from camp so no one could see me getting a lift on it.
  8. Hmmm, interesting reading. Rodders is confirming that there was money available in the window but he didn't want to buy what was available. He says he is taking a gamble on his job with this decision not to buy anyone. That sentence could also be easily written as 'I've taken a gamble with NUFC' which is, ultimately, the main consideration. However, I have to say that he has gone up a few notches in my estimation for being so brave, as I don't want to see dross brought in just for the sake of it. I hope it works out for him but only time will tell. Or alternatively I f*cked up and ran around like a headless chicken and went to see people a million times and by the time I made my decision it was too late. Like in games where I can see we are crap but can't make up my mind until I put subs on 7 minutes from time.
  9. Was meant to be getting turned into a film directed by Michael Mann, but seems to have slipped off the radar. He went and did Collateral instead. Shame that, it'll probably never be made now because of 300 which better be good because if it's not it's a disservice to one of history's great stories. The Spartans were sort of the Nazi's of the ancient world and are a compelling subject. I don't think Nazi is a particularly fair comparison (except in the most indirect military sense, some thing Alexander and the Roman’s repeated really), both because the world was a vastly different place, and because Sparta did both somewhat directly and indirectly influence Athenian democracy (in some ways they were much more liberal and equal than them, in fact, although in many ways not), which is pretty much at least the barest ideological framework of the modern idea. But they are fascinating though definitely (as is most of Mediterranean history of that time period tbh). That's why I said "sort of" Nearest contemporary comparison IMO though, much more so than the Romans or Alexander I don't really think there is a contemporary comparison though, they were and are (and probably always will be) fairly unique as a society, as well as the world of that time being a vastly different place, so as I said one like the nazi's is pretty unfair. In fact in many ways a “nazi” comparisons could be made to the Persian empire of the time (although that would be equally unfair tbh). The nazi’s were a perversion and corruption of fairly modern society (even though they repeatedly hailed back to Romanish roots this was never really true), where as the Spartans were very much of their time and world, albeit in a very unique way. No big deal I guess, just as I said I don’t think very fair to them. My utmost admiration Fop for not saying that comparing the Spartans to the Nazis is complete bollocks and only made by people who have no idea who and what the Spartans were.
  10. Kiddy fiddler wouldn't cross the road to piss on him if he was on fire. But then the yanks forgive their kiddy fiddlers more.
  11. Jay and Silent Bob is a great film. I loved it.
  12. Or McClaren. He got the job on the back of 3 flukey results in Europe he has never looked like emulating.
  13. accomplished managers like Mourinho, Ferguson, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Guus Hiddink influence games by their charismatic presence on the touchline, or decisive tactical changes and substitutions. None out of 3 for Rodders.
  14. Maybe it will stop him hoofing the ball to the opposition midfield.
  15. I'm not in love with Roeder or anything. I just feel that there are always alternative viewpoints, and the board would be one big circle-jerk if someone didn't point them out! Circle jerk Yay!!!!!
  16. Had to order one from debenhams. Nowhere else had them and could give any sort of delivery promise.
  17. Roeder is 52 and has been a football manager for a long time. He shopuld no longer be learning stuff like how to spot a good player from a bad. He should now just be learning new forms of training and diet. maybe new tactical thinking. But not how to use subs and change a game. Or that playing a crap player just because that is his position. The man is a joke of a manager.
  18. Fuck me, a sequel already? I had been listening to PE.
  19. Voted England player of the year, by the fans. He was England's top scorer in those qualifiers. Still, he's shit I wouldn't trust your average Engerlund fan to pick their own nose never mind a player of the year
  20. I know some gynaecological attachments that make men obsolete never mind impotent.
  21. I am looking forward to the Scottish elections. The STV will make the parliament more fun. Should bring it in south of the border.
