However due to horrific mis-management they are actually in danger of slipping even further down the leagues which is something their great rivals Newcastle United have never done. Whilst in the recent past all a manager had to do was come to Sunderland at around October time (usually just before they played Newcastle) and get just enough out of the team to avoid relegation by the skin of their teeth before sliding off into managerial obscurity. This time the new manager actually has to try and build something positive and get something approaching a strategy to work before the inbred fans get ideas above their station and call for them to be sacked. We're all fully aware now of the issues that the club faces going forward. Despite every man and his dog being able to see what was going on at Sunderland (including blind men on extremely speedy motorbikes) the fans of the club managed to totally delude themselves that all it would take is a tweak here and there to get them to be challenging for European places. However even these notoriously thick fans now realise (well a few of them do) just how deep in the shit they actually are. Just in case you are unaware of the litany of issues the new manager of Sunderland will contend with going forward, they are, in no particular order: Like many of the managers before you, you will most likely not be allowed to bring in any of your own coaching staff. Perhaps not even an assistant - we have a coaching structure already in place that the last three managers have had to work with, and I suspect that you will be no different. Despite the fact that the coaching structure has proven to be utter dogshit The club's debt levels are swollen, and our wage bill is frighteningly high - even for a Premier League club. It's more than likely that you will have stand idly by as key players are sold without your full consent, and from the day you walk through the door one of your main objectives will be in assisting our chief executive in re-balancing the expenditure on wages. Also you will be totally blamed by deluded fans if you don’t manage to sell your players for record breaking fees. Your budget will be incredibly slim, not on par with the majority of the top teams in the division. In fact your budget would look fairly slim to Hamilton Academicals. You will inherit a squad that is full of shit players past their prime with enormously over inflated senses of their own importance. The owner is actively seeking new buyers for the club, which he cannot find because it is so shit. Like a bloke who is trying to sell his mark III escort for a Ferrari price and is is so pissed off he can’t get it that he just abandons the car to rust so have sunderland AFC been totally abandoned by their owner. However he once wore an FTM badge so that’s alright. The one redeeming feature that Sunderland has over most of their competitors is the sheer size of the club, the facilities and the fanbase. Ten years in the Premier League is no mean feat and whilst the last five years or so have been gruelling for the supporters, still they turn out in their droves to support a team that have failed them on a consistent basis. Of course this is utterly dependant on the availability of free or extremely cheap tickets which means match day revenue is below that of a pub team. If you combine that with the whinging and twisting they do and the fact they also leave in droves on the 30 minute mark if you aren’t winning 3-0 then the Sunderland fans should actually be seen as the utter liability they actually are Regaining our trust and our love is key. This should be fairly easy because they will even forgive a sex offender if he scores against Newcastle Even taking the immense issues that our new manager will face into consideration, I urge anyone offered this role to run to the hills or join a monastery rather than take this millstone of a job. Let’s be frank the Sunderland job has been inhabited by fascists and fuckwits (sometimes the same person) it has taken winners and ground them to dust. It has sucked the life from even the nmost enthusiastic and left them feeling they would rather watch lacrosse than cross the threshold of another football club ever again. If you want to quickly earn a couple of million and don’t give a shit what it does to your reputation then this is the job for you. Do you feel up to the task?
