From what Ive read its iTunes shite software that uses way too much resources

Ive downloaded an Ep of the Wire as I cant wait to watch it. I got it through iTunes because I had a voucer and didnt know what the hell to use it on. So, Its downloaded and when I try and play it it jumps, its slow as fuck, yet the sound is fine. I have watched loads of stuff on my PC and its not that its not powerful enough. Ive got the latest versions of iTunes and QT so WTF!!! Any ideas?
