I track my HR when I am on the turbo, when I race and when I am doing HR specific training. I.e a recovery ride where I want to keep my HR down, or if I want to work in a specific zone.

Worse then Heroin!
-
Aye Cyclops ones are decent. I am having some wheels built up at the moment with a Cyclops power hub in
-
Aye You just dont get the function of a power profile thats all. You can see an approx power output. If you were to use a power meter and use premium you get a power profile and you can use the fitness freshness stuff on it.
-
No, I have the 500 which like yours, I can load routes onto it, but you follow a line. Its ok for road stuff, but when I am MTBing in the Dales or what not I usually print map segments out. The Garmin 1000 is supposed to be mint like. I have this trainer, but I didnt pay that much for it. Wait for the sales later in the year! I paid about £200 for mine. Infact, this is a decent price atm

I use mine for winter use mostly. I have a Tacx Flow, its mega

I use a Garmin computer. I have premium which allows me to get custom HR zones, but you dont need premium to see power or HR data. Just a HR strap. If you can get a HR strap that works with your phone I am sure that will work too.

If you have a turbo trainer thats compatible with TrainerRoad I highly recommend it. Training with power is more effective than training with HR. That segment aint hilly at all, its a pure power segment that. Get warmed up and you will take it man!

Get out and do a warm up first man, then smash it! FTP is Functional Threshold Power. Joe Friel is a world leading trainer and works closely with Training Peaks. Have a read of it here I have tested it using a 20min ramp test on my home trainer and using a website called TrainerRoad. Awesome bit of kit. If you want to know have a look at Watt Bike, the information they give you is really great. They give you custom HR zones and your power profile. I do a Ramp test every 6-8 weeks to see how I am doing. It goes up and down with fatigue etc. RaceShape you can see how you're doing on segments v others and see how to beat them See at the end of that segment, you drop off really quickly, that could be the 1s you're loosing kid

I have downloaded the Doggacatcher thing. How the fuck do I add podcasts to it?

Wiggins will smash out 450w for an hour in a TT. My FTP is a wopping 297, I am chuffed to bits with that I lad took my KOM the other night, so went and took it back, its too addictive man
-
One segment I aint KOM on, but I am ahead of Laurens Ten Dam, Lars Boom and a couple of other Belkin lads. The only difference. My HR is 178, theirs c100. depressing. I once got the dreaded Uh Oh! Email where it tells you I had a KOM taken off me. I opened it sweating and saw that Joe Moses (he rides for Rapha) had taken one of my KOMs, no chance Ill get that back!

Sweet, its a great nice. One of the best docu's I have seen is Pantani Accidental death of a cyclist. Very emotional and moving film. One of my heroes growing up as a kid.

Tough reading that Stevie man, But, you're a tough bugger, smash it head on like you normally do. All the best fella.

I was only saying the numbers are dwindling. I was on a stag do recently. A few of the lads who went were golfers. I went around the course with them in the buggy. I can certainly see why its so addictive if there is 4 or more of you. The craic of the days was top and I wasnt even playing! The frustration was apparent too, one lad was hitting them beautifully off the tee only to follow up all the time with a shit shot, which added to the banter On 5Live they were asking why the numbers were dwindling. Its not a cheap sport like and surly that has to be one of the main reasons. Membership fees etc. The other reason is the historic attitude in clubs. Around where I live are some really nice courses (apparently, like I say, I dont play) but they are members only, no women etc. You dont want tramps coming in like, but some of the looks the pompus old bastards give you just puts people off.

Today is a classic stage for a breakaway, should be interesting.

Just been listening to the golf show on 5Live. Numbers are dwindling in the 'sport' apparently.
