Ashley to allow spending spree in summer

Sniffer, re the routledge point. Surely if the wages are realistic, it would be better to have him a 3 year deal so that if he doesn't work out after 18 months you can sell him on. On a 18 month deal he would just go bosman an no money recouperated. Ie there will be plenty of championship teams who would snap him up if we sold him today. -
Didnt the FTSE 100 lose half its value in the same period though? Abramovich's losses were 4 times the size of Ashley's total wealth too, or something like that. To have an IPO at 300p of a retail business built from scratch is a massive achievement in itself tbf. How he then handled the float and his subsequent short positions against the stock shows a ruthless and shrewd man. He's a cunt too, which is the final piece in the profile of a 'good businessman'. A ruthless, shrewd, cunt is basically what you are looking for. Most of us would prefer a benefactor, not a businessman. A very good assesment and another Lord Kirkham IMO. I have no problem being run by a very succesful cunt of a businessman but he does need to be "hands on".

I think Bird is a lot more accurate and balanced than most in general though, wouldn't you agree? Im sure he is, but its still just his guess and guess is no better educated than Happy Faces, yours or Stevies. I mean Billy Davies interviewed after the match by Sky..... -

Or Like all the other Jouurnalists this week, Simon Bird is speculating with no more facts than the rest of us. No interviews have been given, there are no quotes about spending plans or ambition from anyone at the club. It seems as though the self imposed vow of silence is being maintained so that Chris and the players can concentrate on winning the division. (which is good). It is the next statement of intent that comes out of the top two at the club that will be the make or break one and then and only then will it be time to start contemplating bleak years in the wilderness. Until then its all pie in the sky -

What you are not factoring in is the Managers perspective. (Not that I've played football manager) But if I was the manager (and not a fan) and knew that money was going to be tight then that is when you wheel and deal. Hughton might decide to cash in on Colochini, make do with Taylor and williamson for now and decide to make better use of the Colochini money and wages. After all he crumbled quite a bit last year in the prem so if we can cash in now AND better re-invest the money then that would be good business. Sadly the same may go for Krul and a few others. As a manager I would be looking and saying which is the absolute core of my team that I cant be without and which ones can increase my transfer kitty. As a manager I think Enrique would be untouchable, everyone else would be available at the right price (as long as I had identified alternatives). -
Or if you are there in July then the Great Yorkshire Show is on in Harrogate,... expensive tho at £21 a ticket

Used to visit Knaresborough a lot and if its a nice sunny day, get yerself along the river to Mother Shiptons cave, Englands oldest tourist resort. If you have a car then Pately Bridge is very nice and a short drive away. If your just on the lash then ignore above.

Returned last week to the under 18's 4-1 defeat by Forest

Thing us not only do we have carr on board scouting, we also have more money and a longer period to find the right player and do the deal.

Another thing I was talking to Tooj about and he said it's a bit like how Lua Lua should've been given the time on the pitch Pancrate has had. Ditto Kadar when Enrique was out for a month instead of the kid from Chelsea. Tbf though, the results have been positive and it's hard getting every signing right when you haven't got a lot of money to spend. Best looks like a turkey though. Spot on-why give a kid from Chelsea time when we have a player on the books with bags of potential who needs 1st team time, and hasn't let us down. Exact same with Pancrate, he's been very poor, and Lua Lua is getting great reviews at Brighton. You never know whats going on behind the scenes though, he may have been a worky ticket or just done something that was kept in house and banished to another club. When Ive seen him he looked decent so there must be something amiss.

Think we are going to be the new Fulham

Andy Carroll, Nile Ranger, Kadar, Tozer, Edgar, Krul, Vuckic and Tavernier have all played come through over the last 2 seasons. I don't think we won't give promising players an opportunity, i just don't think the players are coming through, we haven't produced a decent central midfielder since Lee Clark.. Iirc there have been no examples in recent years of young players we've released who've gone on to play at the top level. Of the players you've named there only Andy Carroll has been given more than a handful of games in the first team. Of the rest the majority have played a handful of games or less for the first side. Ranger for example looked to be getting a chance to figure in the first team, and then in January Best was purchased. Kadar despite looking good whenever played couldn't get in the side ahead of a short term loanee in Fitz Hall. Vukic and Inman despite playing exceptionally well in the reserve/youth setup can't get into the first side even on the bench. Granted some of these players aren't vey old, but ifthey can't get a spot on the bench whilst we're in he Championship then what chance do they have in he Premier League? I think in part we're still suffering from the decimation of the youth setup as overseen by Shepherd. With the youth setup removed only players in the first team were considered with no real a emir to progress through. The paths are slowly being reopened, but so far it has been too slow for my liking. Yeah I don't disagree with you, but bringing through youth players that aren't good enough or aren't ready is not going to help them or the club. It's for young players to come in to the first team and play so well that they can't be dropped. Carroll has done that but I don't think that Ranger or Kadar have done that yet, admittedly they still look better than Hall or Best but not the first team incumbent. It would be nice to see Best get a goal before he is totally written off. Hope its just stagefright and that a goal will open the floodgates. Not convinced like.

This.. It just doesn't add up. Makes perfect sense to me. DL doesnt have a clue about the club, football, the fans or reality. I'd expect no less than this remark. They could, in theory, sell maybe 5K more season tickets plus some corporates. Maybe a revenue of £3M from those plus a little extra on food etc. Not all of the current season tickets are on 3yrs so they will have a lot of renews, but that will be taken into account already so we're only looking at extra's. Im not sure out of how many 43K attendance are season tickets and how many are cash on the day etc. We are not all forgetting that Journalists have said this and not the club. The Journos all want the circus filled copy to start so be prepared for all sorts of varying stories over the coming months. The club seem to be keeping everything in house and just getting on with landing the title.
