  1. As bad as the squad is a present I still reckon we'd have a decent chance of surviving in the PL in it's current state, I'd have us better than Wolves, Burnley, Hull, Portsmouth and close to Bolton, Wigan etc.
  2. all went downhill for them after the balloon incident, that and Cattermole's injury which seemed to disrupt things for them. Can't imagine they'll be too close to the drop zone come the end of the season though. PS, since when did Blackburn crawl into the top ten? Only remember them losing and drawing all season.
  3. I've seen him on many occasions, extremely awkward at times, other times looks like he's a decent finisher. Overall, I'd say he'd give us as much as Ameobi does, so unless Shola is finally on his way out in the near future I see no reason to buy Best whatsoever. If there's anyone off coventry I'd want it's Gunnarsson, versatile midfielder, bags of experience despite being only 19 or 20 and takes throws as long as Delap to stick onto Carroll/Ranger etc's head.
  4. completely agree about Butt at least, the fact he seems no better in this division whereas Smith and Nolan have looked half decent says it all really.
  5. decent player in this league, would probably only be a premier league struggler at best these days mind you.
  6. Blackburn 2-0 up on Villa and going through as it stands
  7. Known as "the stranger" or so I'm told...
  8. Reading 2-1 up on Liverpool not sure if they can hold on mind you...
  9. Can't believe they're seriously considering Brian Laws, surely at least one of the likes of Curbishley, Coppel etc would be interested? If hiring Laws or O'Driscoll exemplifies the ambition the Burnley board I'm not surprised Coyle left.
  10. Angola 4-4 Mali. Angola were 4 nil up until the last 16 minutes, comical defending+decent goals from Keita and Kanoute=comeback. The last 3 goals came in the last two minutes.
  11. its not so much the fact they're focusing on Adebayor over the other players thats shocking it's more the fact that it's taking precedence over the fact the driver has been killed.
  12. one of those threads you hope no one from another forum stumbles accross...
  13. If there's any of the Leeds players we're going to sign I'd much rather Snodgrass, younger, better and funnier name.
  14. I would take him or Jo for that matter. Benjani was nothing special, highly erratic, getting too old and too injured would much rather try and develop Carrol and Ranger or even persevere with Shola if we were to go back up. Jo on the other hand would be great but we have no chance whatsoever of signing him even if we're promoted unless something mad happens.
  15. as it stands we're 20 points ahead of them
  16. was snooping around on their forum a while back, seems the majority want him out
  17. On the plus side it's not the leg he's had trouble with before and the Tango man Brown reckons he might not be out too long but will know more on Monday.
  18. I seriously believe he is the primary reason behind their low attendance figures
  19. I agree with the comments about Englands squad player for player being one of the best in the world at the moment. Sure, you're a bit lacking in a world class keeper (although you have quite a few half decent one's to choose from) and maybe a bit short for options up front but every team has it's weak spots. The trouble with England for me in recent years, apart from poor management has been a mental problem. Something about the German and Italian teams has allowed them to grind out the results when needed in the world cup and progress far beyond what the quality of their squads would suggest). One of these problems seems to be that the likes of the Germans and Italians pace themselves better as statistic show that in recent world cups England concede most goals in the latter stages of matches whereas Italy score a lot of late goals, playing to the final whistle etc etc. However, these problems at least look like they are being ironed out by Capello so I really do think you have a good chance of at least getting to the semis next summer. As someone else pointed out though, luck plays a huge factor in the world cup (especially as there are very few games in the tournament) and there's nothing that can be done about getting a shit group or a bad referree.
  20. In my opinion locality and family allegiance are the only valid reasons for supporting a particular team. After that I just think it bizarre. Spot on, and the family allegiance thing only applies if it wasn't bourne out of gloryhunting. You see debates on the internet, about who has the biggest national fanbase etc... It doesn't matter, has never mattered and will never matter. Liverpool's plastic support will disappear completely like it almost did in 2003, if they had THREE barren years. A clubs fanbase is the amount of people who are willing and able to go to games regularly only excuse being financial problems. On this score we're second or third in this country by a million miles. Having lived in Finland and Norway I can tell you the plastic scandinavian fans that have been described in this thread are a lot more loyal than you might think. I know Finnish fans of Stoke and Forest who've been supporting them since the 70s and just stuck with them through it. Their own league isn't up to much so along with supporting HJK or whoever they choose an English club in the hopes of seeing a team they support play good football, with good players in good competitions. I also know a die hard Ajax fan from Lapland who obsessively follows them since Litmanen's spell there in the 90's. As for Norway, there's supporter clubs for league 2 teams there, the likes of Leyton Orient actually have a fanbase there, god knows why.
  21. Harewood is absolute muck alright, the worst thing is he's keeping out Ranger who needs games if he's ever going to improve beyond his current level. What's the use in playing him over Ranger? We don't own Harewood and hopefully wont have him beyond this season whereas Nile is young, hungry for games and could be developed into a better player than Harewood ever was. All I can think of is that he's getting a game to justify paying his wages as part of the loan deal, not that this makes any sense.
  22. Christ that was a bad one alright, think I saw it on setanta, genuinely felt embaressed to have won.
  23. Apparently Erik Edman was at fault for 8 of the 9 goals
  24. They won a game against Derby a few weeks back
