I really think that when some people on here think of Barton they're thinking of his first few seasons at Man City, he was already on the wane when he joined us and between injuries and his other problems has clearly declined as a footballer. I can't think of one game for us where he's really excelled.

that's it basically, Nolan's probably the best of a not so great bunch in terms of a good captain anyway. I think the whole captaincy thing is a tad overrated to be honest, at the end of the day a good captain can't make a shit team good.

based on what? Based on I cant see Smith or Nolan starting ahead of Barton. I think he is the only true leader we have out of that list. (ie willing to bark and encourage) The Captain imo needs to be in the centre, able to communicate with all players so making the keeper captain seems daft. The captain (like Keane) needs to be the nastiest most competitive player on the park imo. As for Taylor for captain......Bloody hell! Making Barton captain would make us an even bigger joke than we already are, the media would have a field day and in any case it will never happen. Add to that the fact that he's averaged 12 appearances per year since he joined us and has rarely looked even half the player he once was. Barton without the baggage and with his former ability re-discovered could be a decent captain but in his current state it's a non starter.

they're still very short in a lot of areas though, even with Torres staying theyre short up front, havnt got a single left back (sold aurelio and insua already) not to mention the possible departure of mascherano etc

Would be great cover on reasonable wages but I honestly wouldn't start him ahead of Collocini or Taylor at this point, even if he still is decent he'd have to be replaced so soon as to render it all a bit pointless. Very decent centre back cover for a team just coming back up if that is to be the case but this talk of him being made captain is worrying.

If true that's a horrible way to treat Harper but what we've come to expect from this bunch I suppose. However, getting James in for one season wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, hopefully CH would be brave enough to give Krul a proper run at some point especially if James is going through one of his dodgy spells so that we can prepare for a future of Krul and Forster in goal.

the fact that almost no one has been banned on this forum sums up why I like it, doesn't have the usual squad of cunt mods who operate on most forums. Obviously theres serious downsides and whether it's right or wrong Kevin and Danny and several others would have been long banned on any other forum I've been on for any length of time. I used to be a researcher for Football Manager a few years ago and that forum was insanity, people banned (or yellow carded as was often the case) for virtually nothing.

Well, I find it very worrying if true even though Krul looks really promising it would be nice to have Harper there as an insurance policy if Krul/Foster can't cut it.
