When sending in your ST renewals why not also attach a letter saying you are renewing, but only on the understanding that the club will not be selling our best players such as Barton, Enrique, Tiote etc in the summer, regardless of how much is offered for them, and also on the understanding that the club will spend the AC £35m to bring in at least one or two quality strikers. If 45,000 ST holders all send the same message perhaps the club will take notice. If however, they sell the best players you may have grounds to seek a refund. (some hope tho!)

If it is true that half of "level 7" wouldn't know who Joe Harvey was, but would consider SBR a NUFC legend, it's a sad fact that Joe Harvey was the last NUFC manager who actually won this club a trophy worthy of the name, and was also the last one to lift the FA Cup at Wembley(as a player), whilst also playing for the club for most of his career. SBR never never achieved any of these at NUFC. The "level 7" fans need to get clued up if they think Joe Harvey is not worthy of being recognised as a NUFC legend ahead of SBR!

Lazio loony about Toon's Gutierrez
Brazilianbob replied to Christmas Tree 's topic in Newcastle Forum
If he is so easy to replace why do Lazio want him? The reason is they can see the positives he brings to the team in terms of getting us into the opposition half and generally then winning free kicks. This relieves presure on the defence and gives us the opportunity from the free kicks to make the most of Carrolls ability in the air..........Oh! -
Alan Pardew - Poltroon sacked by a forrin team
Brazilianbob replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
Why? I don't really like the man but the fact that Carroll is gone has absolutely nothing to do with him. Yes it did Pardew himself said he was involved in the meeting where they decided they had no option but to let Carroll go,- 10610 replies

Of course its the hardest position to buy. There are not that many naturally left footed footballers out there, with the exception of me of course!
-
I am afraid Pardew reminds me of Souness in many ways. Souness started off praising the players he inherited, but when the results went wrong due to his piss poor tactics, he started critisizing the players. I think we will see this team gradually broken apart by Pardew so that he has his own men in situ. I just hope that whoever he brings in improves the squad, and is not at the expense of the likes of Barton, Enrique, Colo, Willo etc
-
take both perhaps. if we can afford it of course. bentley can play both flanks. Both are Arsenal rejects as I recall. Bentley went to Blackburn, then Larsson to Birmingham, initially on loan then made permenent.

That may be your perception however it doesnt fit in with the statements made previously by the club. As Ive said earlier you cant impose a tight wage cap and expect to hold onto players that other clubs are valuing at £20m. That is why we would sell him. Should that not be that it does not fit with your perception of statements made previously by the club? Well you're going on your perception of statements made by the club. In fairness to PP, there's more evidence to be a non believer than a sympathiser like yourself. I'm not going to get into a argument over this because it is patently obvious I am right, some of you clearly subscribe to the chinese whispers interpretation of club statements, so believe what you like pal ok!

Yet I again I have to point out that the common misconception of the policy of picking up players while young and then developing them and selling at a profit, only applies to those young players that don't quite develop as hoped and therefore don't make the grade at NUFC, but perhaps will in the Championship or at lower EPL teams where they can be sold at a profit. I have no doubt this misconception is being deliberatly perpetuated by some fans who simply want a stick with which to beat Ashley over the head. The whole concept is so we can unearth stars of the future like Carroll and not have to pay £20m to £30m to buy them, so why on earth would we sell him?
-
Like Xisco? We can only sell these players that don't make the grade, if other clubs want them. Xisco is the exception rather than the rule because he was probably meant to be the finished product when we bought him, rather than a youngster to be groomed ready for the first team in a couple of years.
-
I think people are mis-stating the club policy, which is to unearth young talent that can be sold at a profit if they do not make the grade at NUFC.

Alan Pardew - Poltroon sacked by a forrin team
Brazilianbob replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
Looking at this sensibly, lets not dwell too much on how poor we think Pardew is as a manager because it could have been so so much worse. What about the managers they could have appointed. Roy Keane anyone? how about the ex Hull manager and mackem lover Phil Brown or maybe Ian Dowie or Billy Davies? Tony Pulis might have fancied a crack or even Mick McCarthy. Then there is Gordon Strachan who was available! Looking at the appointment of Pardew from this perspective, it doesn't look too bad now compared to what might have been does it?- 10610 replies

As usual when something happens Ashley gets the blame as the owner. What part of Llambias being managing director with a board that makes the decisions do people not get? Its Llambias who runs the club and makes the decisions on hiring and firing. Granted he will keep the Ashley informed and provide sound business reasons for that decision, but get real people this has nothing to do with Ashley, if it did he is wasting a wacking great wedge of money paying Llambias to do nowt, while he makes the hard decisions.

I'll answer this one for Leazes. The simple truth is I have seen every NUFC player over the last 50 years and Tony Green was simply the best. What Green did over 33 games stick in my mind more than anything Beardo did in both spells at NUFC, and he did some pretty memorable things!
-
The big boys know he is available for nowt come next summer, so why would they spend money on him now, thats why Everton were after him last summer because come next January/summer, they know they won't be able to compete for him. Come January the big boys will all be at the contract table offering him deals, but by then it will be too late for us to keep him, as his head will be well and truly turned by the offers being made to him. I know we will regret letting him go. Some of you have very short memories as he was far and away our best defender in the Championship last season and we had conceded very few goals until he got injured. Oh and don't start banging on about how he only looked good because it was the championship, because we had those doubts about both Colo and Willo and they carried that form forward to the EPL, so no reason why taylor can't.

Given what we now know about Carroll and his temper, i.e. throwing a glass (accidently) into someones face, breaking Taylors jaw, and assaulting his ex, I am not so sure we should be so quick to judge Taylor the transgressor here! Its only mindless thugs that resort to violence in the face of verbal (or any) provocation, and no matter what Taylor said he did not deserve to be physically attacked. Personally I would love to see Taylor stay, because if he leaves it will be to one of the big boys and make no mistake about that, because they all know how good he is, even if we don't!
-
I fervently hope Ashley stays with us long term. He has turned this club around financially, and as soon as we start operating in the black Im have no doubt we will start to see some signs of building on what we have. What we have to do is to publicly acknowledge the good he has done. Unfortunately for the more insular and biggotted NUFC fans, I suspect that will be a bridge too far. Personally I say forgive and forget, I would love to think that he felt able to go down the Bigg Market for a pint with the fans, and to be accepted as one of the lads without being subjected to unwarranted abuse. After all thats why he bought the club for the craic with the fans, and what do we do, we show how petty minded we can be.

These forums make it so so easy for a journalist to undermine a football manager. All a journo has to do is drop a rumour on a couple of forums and the fans whip themselves into a frenzy discussing it until they reach the point that everyone either believes he wants to leave, or the club think he wants to leave, or the club thinks the fans want him to leave as they have turned against him, because they believe he wants to leave, so the club then sacks him to save face. It's unbelievable that fans should give even the slightest bit of credence to this ridiculous rumour that the club want to sack Hughton after what he has achieved in only one season. His remit is to keep the club in the EPL on little or no money this season. If he achieves that and I beleive he will, I truly believe the purse strings will be loosened next season and he can start bringing in the type of players that will build a strong competitive EPL squad capable of challenging for europe.

Where did the Toon finish the year you was born ?
Brazilianbob replied to Drifter's topic in Newcastle Forum
In 1951 we finished 4th in league one and won the fa cup. Apart from two more FA cup wins in 52 and 55 and the Fairs cup in 69, its been all downhill since then. -
what a massive load of crap Andrew Very constructive I must say! I am completely persuaded by your in depth constructive explanation for your disagreement. T*t

No great loss as far as I am concerned. We also have to ask the telling question of why he turned us down before the likes of Sunderland came in for him? In my opinion he had a look at the Newcastle players with whom he would be in direct competition and clearly decided he would never be able to oust Coloccini an Argentinian international who may very well be playing in the World Cup this summer and Steven Taylor a former U21 captain who will no doubt make it into the full england squad once we get back into the EPL. Conversely Kilgallon obviosly fancies his chances of being able to oust the likes of Turner and or Ferdinand from the mackems first team hence he signed for them. Clearly the player does not think he is good enough for us, so as I said no great loss!

Ok I've posted this story several times over the years but i'll do it once more. In the early 70's, can't remember the year exactly, Newcastle were at home to Man U and me and a mate had popped into a city centre hotel for a quiet pint away from all the busy pubs. Anyway as we were sitting in the lounge, I saw a lot of people looking out into the foyer, so I says to my mate I'm off to the loo and see whats happening out there. I walks out into the foyer and saw all the Manu players exiting the lifts and walking out to the coach, Bobby Charlton, Best, Law, Kidd, you name it they were all there, and I was still looking over my shoulder at them when I pushed open the toilet door only to hear a loud clunk noise followed by a muffled exclamation. I carefully pushed the door fully open to be greeted by the sight of the Manu Chairman Louis Edwards, and Sir Matt Busby who had been standing behind the door. On looking closer Sir matt had only the bowl of his pipe showing between his teeth, and it seems that when I pushed open the door it literally shoved his pipe down his throat. I naturally apologised profusely but they still exited the toilet muttering dark things against all things geordie. Didn't even give me an autograph!

Best Opposition Player You've Seen at SJP
Brazilianbob replied to snakehips's topic in Newcastle Forum
I get your point but I think it is arguable that the modern game based upon superfit players is not what I would call football, and don't call me Shirley, it's Bob. Anyway this all started because Stevie said that Bell would not hack it in the modern game, but he was a forerunner of what the modern game is all about, hence he was nicknamed after a champion racehorse. As for Stevies ludicrous statement that Pele could not hack it in the conference, well that just about blows all his arguments out of the water. I didn't subscribe to Stevie's argument re: Pele. I'm confused though, are you now saying modern footballers are fitter? Because you were questioning where that notion came from just before. No, what I have done is give just one example of Colin Bell, a 1970's player, who was as super fit as modern day players thereby denying the theory that modern footballers are fitter than those that played in the 60's 70's and 80's. I have never denied that modern footballers are superfit, but I just do not accept that the "old" footballers were all puffing on fags and supping brown ale at half time, they did in the pub leagues that I played in, but that is a far cry from the professional ranks.
