Tata are closing the blast furnaces and removing them then building allegedly greener electric arc furnaces to replace them . Unions have put forward a proposal to keep one open (and the associated jobs) whilst the other one is being sorted. The uk government have given Tata £500 mill to achieve this. Tata obviously rejected the union proposal. Regardless of Brexit removing various EU trade protections over steel production that are in place across the whole bloc am not sure if Tata’s motivations and intentions are anything at all to do with whether the UK is in the EU or not. Is net zero an EU aspiration or did a Tory government decide unilaterally that it was a good idea?…
