I know the coverage X factor gets is huge, and I know that tabloids print what people want, and what people want is shit because they're idiots. However a small part of you still dies when you see that the fact a winner of a talent contest is putting his career before his love life and doesn't fancy Cheryl Cole is deemed front page news by four national 'newspapers'.

Tbf what's he supposed to say? 'Yes, I do fancy the pants off my friend and mentor, who is married to a millionaire footballer. This will not make our working relationship in any way awkward'.

There are millions of 18 year olds with character and the balls to say what they think and be genuinely funny, but none of them would be any good to Cowell. He wants automotons who are grateful for their ahem "break" and who will do as they are fuckin told.

He had a class game but I seem to remember every 1 on 1 being blasted straight at him by Sir Les. Shame Tino never had one of those chances.
That's what I say to folk who blame Tino for us losing the league that year. If Sir Les had scored in that game, we would have gone on to win the league imo.
More to do with Derek Fazackerly going to Blackburn at christmas if you ask me,but as you say signing Tino was just a convenient thing for lazy hacks and pundits to spout like a bunch of lobotomised parrots for years after until it becomes the general public's perceived view on what happened.

Theres not a goverment on earth which could conceivably regulate the global economic markets, and that is precisely why we are in recession. In this country people can blame Gordon Brown until they are blue in the face but in reality theres fuck all he or anyone else could've done.

One word to describe us yesterday-complacent.Its an attitude we've been getting away with in this division, but one which was partially to blame for relegation last season. Not a lot changes really. The players know they are mostly head and shoulders above their opponenents in this division ability wise and usually do just enough to get by. So they dont mind doing this. Last season was a bit too much like hard work but being millionaires why should they care? Talk is cheap, they can say what they want in the press but for me the general attitiude is still one of indifference.Add to this the only reason many of the highest earners are still here is everyone in football knows they are chronically overpaid in relation to their ability and wouldn't bid for them if they were the last professsional footballers on earth. The only thing that has changed is the quality of the opposistion.
If the teams we are playing are organised and have a better attitude to hard work than us (Blackpool,Forest,Scunthorpe) or we have "key" players out (Nolan,S Taylor,Colo) then we are found wanting. Shola it would seem is more interested in going to the ACN/WC with Nigeria,Butt is still inexplcably being picked in front of Guthrie (I really think Hughton actively dislikes Guthrie) in the centre of the park and we still have Ashley at the helm with an economic situation that makes a bid from someone or a group of individuals even at the lower end of Ashley's price spectrum distinctly unlikely.
Having said all that, I am enjoying this season. But the elephant in the room is next season.Nothings really changed that much.

I'll tell you when you can judge whether Gerrard is the best player in his posistion.....if and when this summer he is the outstanding player in a successful (semis?) England team. He has to be far more disciplined when playing for Cappello than when he tries to carry a piss poor Liverpool side on his own, with only Torres to give the ball to. For me england a bit Spain lite at the moment...thats how Cappello wants them to play, bit has he got a Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas to do the job in the centre of the park?
The same could be said of Lampard and Rooney, but they are surrounded by better players at their clubs. Stevie's right in a way, Gerrard sticks out like a sore thumb becuase of the (relative) mediocrity surrounding him.

Can someone explain to me how and why a club which was unsellable 2 months ago at 80 million will somehow (promotion permitting) may well be worth worth a reported 150 million in 5 months time with the same players and a major rebuilding job required? It just doesnt make any sense.
In saying that now is the time for any buyer who is tempted to come in...promotion looking more than likely and they apparently wouldnt have to pay nearly twice as much as the club as they wouldve done a couple of months back....but I'm not holding my breath

First I've heard of it. I'd say Max and Paddy wasnt as funny as Phoenix nights, but as mentioned Spikey and the other bloke weren't involved in the writing. And Spikey was the only reason to watch 8 out of 10 cats so it could be said that Kay isnt as funny without him, but it sounds as if you'd hang the bloke for the heinous crime of paying someone to write gags for him

Furious: Darren Bent
England striker Darren Bent was furious after his mother, Shirley, said she had been racially abused before Sunderland’s 1-0 defeat at Wigan yesterday.
A Sunderland fan is alleged to be the offender, giving rise to fears that Bent may even demand a transfer.
Bent said on Twitter that the incident was an ‘absolute disgrace’ and warned: ‘I won’t stand for that.’
A Sunderland spokesman said: ‘Behaviour of this kind is totally unacceptable to our football club.’
Shirley Bent is understood to have stayed at the match and spoke with her son afterwards.
Police in Greater Manchester and Northumbria last night launched an investigation. Inspector Michael Eddlestone said: ‘Greater Manchester Police are investigating reports that a woman was racially abused at the match.’
Meanwhile, Sunderland will work with their local police to try to find the culprit.
A Northumbria police spokesman confirmed: ‘The victim will be interviewed by us with a view to finding the offender.’
Greater Manchester Police added: ‘We will use CCTV footage or whatever is necessary to find out what happened and identify the alleged offender and we will be in close contact with Northumbria Police.
‘If there is sufficient evidence against an individual, he will have to be brought down to Wigan Magistrates Court to face charges because the offence took place here.’
Bent, 25, moved north from Spurs in summer for a fee that could rise to £16.5million and played for England against Brazil in Doha

Harewood is crucially involved twice in the build up to the goal,and Guthrie puts a great cross in. Without those two bits of good play theres no goal and it's nowts each at FT. Also Nolan was guilty of giving the ball directly to a Preston player at least 3 times in the centre of the park last night...good job Preston are ultimately wank and couldnt captilise on it.
Maybe we're being hard on Harewood in particular?...is there just a bit of the Shola about him?

What terrifies me are the noises coming for the sportsdirect.com@St James’ Park (God how I hate that). Houghton repeats he’s only planning for promotion and nothing after that. Well the thing with that is this: The team that gets you up can’t keep you up.
Certainly given our owner’s allergic reaction to actually buying a player and there’s no way Taylor, Enrique et al will endure the second (inevitable) relegation.
I dunno, but off the back of that win and more importantly that “performance” I’m pretty certain we’ll be promoted as champions and I’m convinced we’ll sink straight back down like a concrete shoed Mafia snitch unless huge changes affect our club.
Promotion is pointless unless Ashley sells the club, and that begs the question why, seeing as there are no takers at a reported 80mill with good odds on promotion being acheived this season,would anyone pay well over the 100mill the fat bastard will undoubtedly ask for next summer should we have something to celebrate in May? The correct time to buy NUFC is NOW, before the window opens in January and before we are if/when etc promoted.
I'm not holding my breath on that one though
